I have the older Petzl Actik Core model, which has been perfect for hiking at night. This one looks even better. Beats Black Diamond in brightness and battery options for sure.

Purchased this expensive headlight as a replacement for the previous 'Actik Core' model which also failed. Both models stopped functioning after walking in light rain for about 15 minutes. I am always checking the weather conditions before heading out for my daily 2 hours evening walks, but there are unexpected surprises now and then. I would have thought that given how difficult it is to open the battery compartment, a few drops of rain would be no problem. PETZL, a reliable adventures enthusiast's supply vendor? Not in my experience.

Have to push very hard to the point where it feels like you are breaking it to open

@@The_Baconator_ No kidding. I nearly gave up. I'm guessing the one I got was at the extreme end of the tolerance stack because it took a quarter of my thumbnail off just opening it the first time.

I came here because I have the same problem. It won't open, feels like I'm going to snap it (or my nail).

Same problem here. After reading other comments I tried a butter knife. Nope. Then a table spoon and pushed hard where the cover was bending before it popped. Stick with Black Diamond headlamps!
