    Hello:
    Thanks for making and uploading E.L.O. s " Need her love" reaction.
    It´s a beautiful song.
    Why don´t you do an E.L.O. ´s " Midnight blue " reaction , HarriBest ?
    " Midnight blue", a precious and immortal song, recorded at Musicland Studios (Munich, Germany), owned by the Italian musician and producer Giorgio Moroder.
    You can see the influence of Beethoven, Bach, Wagner and Johann Strauss, in addition to that rich mix of styles, ranging from the doo wop of The Platters and The Chordettes, for example, through the sound and heritage of The Beatles, until the disco style, represented by Barry White, Van McCoy, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer (who also recorded in the same studios, like Queen, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and many other greats) and others.

    There is a touch of Viennese waltz as a whole (The theme itself is a waltz, but with a slower rhythm), an iota of bolero, as well as blues, swing and the aforementioned doo wop (The influence of African music it's undeniable - I think.)
    All a bitterness that makes this beautiful ballad, an ethereal song and without equal.
    In its part of strings and choral arrangements, Jeff Lynne, its composer and main voice, Richard Tandy, keyboardist of E.L.O. and Louis Clark ( R.I.P. .), who conducted the orchestra.
    Kelly Groucutt ( R.I.P. ), bassist for E.L.O. , was his second voice and part of the choirs, too.
    Among many other details, it is worth mentioning that this song used the synthesizer, recently launched on the market at that time, the Yamaha CS-80, the same one with which he created immortal melodies, the Greek musician Vangelis; and sound engineer Reinhold Mack (who was very close, in his work, to Queen), used Sennheiser microphones, placed at different distances, in order to create a magnificent surround sound environment, similar to that of the interior of a cathedral. This is very evident, in two other ballads present in the album "Discovery" (1979), to which this song belongs, "Need her love" (With a strong Gregorian chant glaze) and "Confusion" (With a marked accent in Richard Wagner's choral work.)
    Lyrically speaking, in one of its parts, there is a reference to a verse from the play "Romeo and Juliet" (William Shakespeare): It says "... But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name ..." ( "... But, how much do they look at what is in a surname ..." )
    It is intuited that the song refers to the furtive encounter between two lovers, at the stroke of midnight, in a desolate place, which must end before dawn, so as not to be discovered by those close to them.
    This song was not made as a single, on either side of the Atlantic, but in Australia.
    Thanks again for uploading the video.
    A hug , amigo.
    Greetings from Chile, South America

    Harri, thanks for the reaction, I'm glad you dug the song! And hey, there's no need to hold back on The Beatles comparisons--we ELO fans do it all the time, asking ourselves things like, "I wonder whether John, Paul, or George would sound best singing this song?", etc. So don't suppress your thoughts on how various ELO songs remind you of The Fab Four, because those thoughts add to your reactions! The only time ELO fans get miffed is if someone writes that ELO completely ripped off The Beatles and didn't have an original idea of their own--because we know that's just rubbish, typed by a troll. But naw man, we know you're an ELO fan--so bring up The Beatles to your heart's content. :)

    • @Cosmo-Kramer
      @Cosmo-Kramer Před 3 lety +2

      True, but he didn't become friends with George, or do any of that other stuff you mentioned until years after this song. It sounds Beatlesesque because the Fab Four was the greatest musical influence on him, from the perspective of him just being a huge fan of theirs. But yeah, while Harri can hear Paul singing this song, I'd add to that and say it sounds like Jeff is playing the guitar in George's style.

    I'm a sucker for a well-crafted ballad that isn't sappy or corny. "Sublime" was the right adjective. I was stationed in England when this album was still in the charts and they released the "Xanadu" soundtrack and "TIme" albums while I was there. It seemed every single went into the top of the charts, 14 ELO tracks from the 3 albums were released as singles. I was sad though to see the strings replaced with synths on "Time", it just isn't the same. I know it was a concept album set in the future and no doubt a futuristic sound was wanted but it's colder, mechanical.

    • @Cosmo-Kramer
      @Cosmo-Kramer Před 3 lety

    • @lhpl
      @lhpl Před 3 lety

      @@Cosmo-Kramer well, we already know we disagree about Time. At least I can say that I also love _Yours Truly, 2095_ as much as I love the rest of the album. However, I prefer hearing the album end to end, the whole story. And I don't understand how anyone could make words like "colder, mechanical" fit the songs of Time. Yes, it describes a future world that is cold and mechanical, using music. But the singing, the voice, the words! I just don't care, if violins don't play!
      Just because - "synth" -, it's suddenly mechanical? Are Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Jarre - mechanical? Maybe, sometimes? Is Jeff Lynne? Never! The sounds may be made using electronics, but they are perfectly organic. And I believe quantum physics has nearly given up upon string theory also! :-)

    • @Cosmo-Kramer
      @Cosmo-Kramer Před 3 lety +1

      Gary, you're right, the strings are conspicuously missing in, Time. But so was the stellar songwriting we'd come accustomed to with ELO. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still quality stuff, because Jeff doesn't make bad songs. But it's a pretty steep drop off from Discovery--an LP that had already turned off purists of the band. My sense at the time, and also now in retrospect, was that the new hot artists and genres didn't leave much room for '70s bands like ELO. Even Robert Plant said after their final album, 1979's, In Through The Out Door, that he had this inescapable feeling that Led Zeppelin no longer belonged, that the music scene had passed them by. He said that even if Bonzo had not died in 1980, they were on borrowed time. So yeah, that's what I was trying to get across in a just one page of copy, so as to not bore folks with a lot of reading when they're waiting for song to begin. Your point is well taken, though.
