Fun fact my first session of dnd my character (a half elf if i remember correctly) just had a feeling from perception that people were watching us while we were in the woods, so i used a flaming arrow and shot the trees around us, and killed like all 8 or so vigilantes that were definitely going to attack us, everyone was actually really impressed cause as mentioned this was my first run, in fact our groups bard asked me if he could write a song for it, i said sure, and next session he actually came back with a lyrics sheet and his guitar and played us the song, he actually let me keep the paper too, it's still tucked away with my character sheet if i remember correctly

Technically, following the actual rules of the game, that's not how the spell works. Since depression is a state of being and not a command.
But there's also the rule that literally any rule in the game can be overruled by the dungeon master, so if your dungeon master is cool with it and thinks it's fun, then yeah, it works. Which is THE greatest part of DnD imo.
Sure, there are rules, but we're all just here to have fun, so don't let the rules get in the way of that

@@MrSuperTeenGohan If someone did that at my table, I would probably just point out it needs to be an order and proppose "depress" instead of "depression".
I think it's good for novice players to be pointed out when they missunderstand some rule to help them get used to both reading and understanding what the rules say instead of getting used to do things ignoring the rules, but I also think it's even better to help them find the way to do what they want (or at least the closest thing to what they want) following the rules instead of just saying "no, this isn't how this works so it doesn't work".
Either way is fine, if I wasn't DMing I would probably let it be since it isn't game breaking in any significant way, but I prefer to leave the "any rule can be overruled" thing for situations where the rules are unclear, when they are causing an argument or when someone tries to use a spell or skill for something that makes sense even though it's not specified in the rules of said spell or skill.
@@garethvila5108 I would personally also not really let it work this way in my own campaign, but I also recognise that I tend to be a party pooper with rules, so I try to be more lenient as long as it's enhancing the experience at the table and not breaking the game.
In a campaign I wouldn't allow it, because it sets precedens for further into the campaign, but in a one-shot I'd point out that it's not how the spell would properly, but go with it because it's just a one-shot.
As for turning depression into a command, I think I'd look for a better word than "depress", since that doesn't really (in my opinion) translate to "become depressed". It can just as easily be "cause depression". I'd probably go with the command "despair", as that (in my opinion) achieves a similar state, and is an action that inheritly must affect oneself.
As for anyone else reading this, who thinks I'm taking the fun out of it by being technical and specific about this: this is part of what I personally find fun, and I only indulge because it seems people are willing to discuss the technicality. I still believe that the way to have fun is different from table to table

Paul easily won MVP in this adventure. Like seriously, saving tholomew (I think that's his name) from the clay crowns possession, communicating with the goblins, and is just an overall funny character. I'm actually a little sad for him bout his backstory, but yeah. 10/10 for Paul :D

one of the things our DM always does is gives the NPCs celebrity lookalikes so we got a quest from george clooney, stayed at a sketchy inn run by danny devito, found a zombie that looked like dehydrated adam driver, fought a sorcerer benedict cumberbatch… it makes going through my doodles of the campaign so much sillier

With the opening of the quest starting with a sheep bursting into a tavern with a Scroll of Speak with Animals, I legitimately thought this was going to be them playing the one-shot adventure "The Wild Sheep Chase", one of my favorite one-shot adventures for parties that enjoy some chaos. Was surprised to see that didn't seem to be the case at all.
My favorite part of this is you can tell exactly when they failed rolls 😂

As a D&D player, this was 100% accurate to how a campaign can go. While yes, Mark getting acid-blasted in the face was the funniest part, the best part about it was how you included Slimecicle and Ranboo's reactions to it with Jacob's shocked face, because sometimes the reaction is the funniest part of what happens.
Yes, reaction to it matters the most, and it was a legit tactic to deceive into getting a free hit, let alone acid breath (almost looking like Jaiden's character was throwing up to the Manager, and their reactions made me have a good chuckle too XD)

I gotta say this is without a doubt the best campaign I've seen in a while tops the first campaign I did lol
the fact that a dnd party exists with my childhood favorite animation channel, the streamer that i'd watch for hours daily during 2020-2021 lockdowns, the guy who did the improved romeo and juliet performance that i watch at least monthly, and the cohost of my current favorite podcast is a full circle moment that i wasn't expecting. like who would've thought that my favorite creators from such different parts of my life would somehow all be friends with each other
I have never wanted to play dnd so bad. NEVER. there is something about this that really gives me a new goal in life.
As an old lady, "D&D is a really popular game" is a sentence I never thought I would hear, and I'm genuinely happy it's found a wide audience.

PLUS there was that whole "Satanic Panic" going on where the Christians were losing their minds. (With the 80s it was D&D, with the 90s it was Pokemon, yknow. It's all supposedly demons & evolution and stuff). So it was a lot of people's dirty little secret to spend their afternoon as an elf.
Geek stuff gaining traction in the mainstream is something that's happened within the last decade or two, relatively new in its run.

This is the most sane dnd campaign. Also I love that most adventures start with the party having literally no reason to go along with it yet they do. Even better when they dont even know each other but choose to risk their lives for eachother anyway. In my current campaign we chose to solve the mystery of the village simply because there was a mystery and we were there. It has nothing to do with our personal goals.
0:53 Charlie seems like the kind of guy who could play a great scientist role like Ford from Gravity Falls. If you look at him, you’ll see that he’s very fit for that role. Great video 10/10.

I watched the vod of the actual campaign. There was actually some backstory stuff with Zoot's patron and the wand (Her character's class was a warlock), but it seems she cut that out of the animated version for time constraints.

@grimrobot2059 technically it can't really do that because the spell she used was command. The spell only takes effect if the word can be used as a command like "HALT, STOP, GROVEL, RUN" and "depression" isn't really a command. But Charlie is a cool dm so he let it go because he's chill like that.

Hello it’s me that one weirdo who commented 6 days ago just found out we have a very over powered character in our party that can manipulate time and space and he’s a cat (side note my monk accidentally hurt his brother in law but he doesn’t know that ) but yeaa idk what’s going on with my party now but in the next few sessions we will be getting another op person who’s from another dimension and he’s one of my oc 🙃
My favorite part is that you can definitely tell when someone rolled a Nat 1

Yeah, i decided to join a dnd group with my friends(half human half animal, or humanoid characters) and created a Tortle named master Oogway. My first session we fight an owl bear. then beat it without anyone dying. We won because my friend said “dice go boing boing” the dropped the dice and rolled a nat20

Yesterday I did my first round of DnD:
First thing we did, we encountered a water elemental, and we adopted it. Then we had a custody battle over it, only for it to chose someone else, and then I got ambushed by skeletons and I dodged their attacks like I had ultra instinct, we fought a Slime Boss, we yeeted our water baby into it, it absorbed the slime, and became a big boy.
Then at the end, I yeeted one of my party members in the ocean.
The character arc between Paul and Luap are better than most Hollywood stories nowadays.
We can’t forget the Mark Thompson plot twist! 😂

the first time I played D & D I went with a group of people to board a boat. Big boat to expensive, and we didn't want the little boat so we put a barrel on top of the gnome shop keeper and put the small boat on it. We crushed the gnome and everyone took turns trying to reserect it by rolling a 10. Fun times
