The opening of this clip has to tug at your heart: Her Majesty, a little stooped with age, standing all alone awaiting the Netherlands royals, including the King, whom she has known since he was an infant. Queen Elizabeth II has fulfilled her promise of duty to nation and commonwealth, never faltering, into her ninth decade. And she still favors all of us with the brilliant smile for which she is known universally. She is both a dear lady and a courageous embodiment of her people.

Zoe Yeboah Yeah me too and their love story is just like a movie..she's not greedy and didn't even know as an Argentinian that he was a Dutch prince when they met. Although I was 11 year old I still remember Netherlands court forbade Willem to marry Maxima because of a political tension regarding Maxima's father past involvment in an autocratic government of Argentina. But the crown prince threatend to step down if they didn't let them marry. I watched their wedding live on tv despite being from South Asia. It was the first royal wedding I remember.
@@jimtim8805 It wasn't political tensions between the countries but her father used to be part of a government that murdered people. They didn't want our royals to be associated with that vile regime. So they found the middle ground by letting him marry her but her father wasn't allowed at the event (cause its a formal affair of state).

I just love this couple. Their story is like a movie..heard that Maxima from Argentina and Willem met in a fair in Spain and he didn't tell her he was the crown prince of Netherlands..before parting their ways before 2nd date he told her about that. I still remember(although I was 11 year old and from a South Asian country)Netherlands court forbade Willem to marry Maxima because of a political tension regarding Maxima's father past involvment in an autocratic government of Argentina. But the crown prince (not king back then) said he would step down if he can't marry her. Then I watched their royal wedding on tv live (first royal wedding I ever watched).
There are not tension between Argentina and the Netherlands, both countries always had excellent relations, the problem on that moment was, Queen Maxima's father who was involved as part of the last Argentinian Military Dictatorship.

The marriage was not forbidden at any point, he asked permission as he officially had to do if he wanted keep his position. This happened also with his brothers, one of them (Friso) ended up not getting permission due to a past relationship between his fiancee and a well known criminal. They still married and he forfeited his right to the throne. While there was some discussion around Maxima's father during their procedure after a debate there was no official objection to her or them getting married. Her father however was not allowed to be part of any official engagements including their marriage. All parties involved agreed to this. I do believe that he would have also married her had they not gotten permission, and then his younger brother and his wife would have become king and queen instead. Maxima's father Jorge was allowed to visit them privately since that time, and everyone appreciated that, but Maxima herself has been very loved by most people.
I never realized how collectively tall the Dutch king and queen are. Standing next to them the members of the BRF look diminutive
Ironically our king is the average male height (1m83/6ft1) in the Netherlands. And our queen isnt't even Dutch (Dutch-born that is), she is Argentinian!

I just love HRH, her whole life has been broadcast and she's been a good Queen. I wish she'd walk into Parliament and have them do something about giving the people a voice again before Brexit keeps going forward. I've seen a lot of voter remorse coming thru the social media. She has the authority and the duty to call another vote to double check with her people. I hope she will. An amazing Queen.

QEII is a second cousin to King Harald of Norway, third cousin to both Queen Margrethe of Denmark and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, and third cousin once removed to KIng Philippe of Belgium, King Felipe of Spain and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. King Willem-Alexander, on the other hand, is only her fifth cousin once removed.

As Queen Margrethe of Denmark said in an interview, "We are all cousins," a much simpler way of dealing with the question. In reality, the European monarchies are one big, beautifully dressed family which is generally quite loveable.
