    The red-headed mechanic was a famous drummer back in the 1960's and 1970's. Mickey Jones. You can see him playing drums in the old music video recorded for The First Edition with Kenny Rogers doing their song "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)". Also played drums for Bob Dylan, Trini Lopez, and Johnny Rivers.

    A great John Hughes film! He actually did many 70s and early eighties movies, he helped write, he never got credit for.. Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, and a few others.

    Yess! I love vacation! The running joke is that they have different actors for audrey and russ but the adult actors stay the same. I'm not the biggest fan of European vacation, but my absolute favorite is Vegas Vacation. We always called my dad Clark when on car trips 🤣.

      With the Vacation reboot sequel I hope they could continue the traditional joke with Rusty’s sons being recasted. If they continue the film that is.

      That only happened because Anthony Michael Hall was filming Wierd Science during production of European Vacation, Dana Barron was totally up for playing Audrey again, but they didn't want to have her come back, but a new actor for Rusty, so they decided to recast both

    In the original ending, shown only at screenings, after learning the park is closed, they go to Wallys house and hold him hostage, never getting inside the park. Audiences stopped laughing by the end. So Ramis reshot the new ending you now see. It was done a few months later which is why Micheal Anthony Hall is taller in the ending. Dana Barron (Audrey) looks pale and quiet because as she told it, the reshot was done an a scorching hot day. They had to flim all the rides several times as well as that run to get everything right. It made her very sick which is why you don't see Audrey say or do much in the end.

    Great reaction, you two !!! Yeah, they might have used Six Flags in the movie (IDK, you are more familiar than me with the 1 in CA), but the name they used was actually referring to Disneyland (i.e. Wally World = Wally (for Walt) + [Disney] World). I think they did that so neither park could sue them.

    You have to keep in mind that this movie came out when the majority of the original members of Saturday Night Live were still going strong in films, and that SCTV was just getting started, and this was the first (or second -- Mr. Mom may be the first) movie that John Hughes wrote, so this was just comedy gold.

    • @brom00
      @brom00 Před 3 lety

      Remember though, SCTV started only a year after SNL in 76. It just seems longer because SCTV took a few extra years to show up in the states on NBC. Ramis, Candy and Levy did a few smaller Canadian comedy films before they crossed the border.

    Everybody always overlooks European Vacation, but in my honest opinion, it's right up there with Vacation and Christmas Vacation.
    I was never a fan of Vegas Vacation, and I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but Vegas Vacation isn't a "National Lampoon's" movie. And it goes without saying, but it also wasn't written/directed by John Hughes.
    But yeah, European Vacation is pretty great as well, and it's the most overlooked/underrated of the series.
