- At this rate, there’s hardly any car brand that doesn’t have a small crossover available on the local market. Volkswagen Philippines has just launched a new one: the 2024 Volkswagen Tharu, which is a step-up over the T-Cross not just in size, but also in features and performance.
At this point, you may have heard about the prices. In a segment with no shortage of low-priced offerings, the Tharu demands a rather hefty sum of P1,808,000 for the base 300 TSI DSG SE, and P1,945,000 for the top-spec 300 TSI DSG SEL. Yes, it’s got a Volkswagen badge up front, and it also appears to have all the hallmarks of German quality and engineering, despite where it’s produced. So, does it live up to the reputation of the brand, and how well can it justify its asking price? Click play on the video above for our first impressions, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

sir pwd po ba comparo Tharu vs Tucson?
That Tharu has a better interior than even the VW Taos in the USA. Does Tharu come with power liftgate ? Because in the USA not even the highest trim has that feature.
At that price point, you already get to have a HRV RS which is a bit more powerful and of course with Honda Sensing. Also, Honda isn't any less to VW when it comes to performance and reliability. Another option is the Crosstrek, may be less horses but handling is most likely much more superb. Sorry VW, but this could be a hard sell for you.
Why can't they just import Golf's and Tiguan's just like Thailand and Malaysia. I believe Malaysia even manufactures Golf GTIs, which are as good as the German ones!
If that was my car I wouldn’t even give a damn about what passengers think of the quirkiness. They ought to buy their own cars already.
