    you don't have to push it down at all... every waffle iron i've own has always risen up and down as the waffle is cooking. they always come out just fine without pushing it down. you also don't need to spread the batter around as much as you did. You can pretty much just put a good sized blob in the middle, spread it just a tiny bit and then close it. i've had the Griddler for a few months and I never press down on it when making waffles. Sometimes when making a burger i might press a little to squeeze some of the juices out, but that's not necessary either.

      with the Cuisinart griddler...it's designed to be used as a griddle...the multifunctionality of it wholly depends on how it is used. SInce it wasn't meant to be used as a waffle iron originally the product isn't the best thing out there to make waffles...it isn't designed to clamp down while cooking because it's a griddler and not a waffle maker. The fact that he took advantage of its multifunctionality to make waffles doesn't mean that it is a waffle maker, it's still a griddle which is why the top half of the "waffle maker" tends to spring up

    I just stand by the griddler and hold it down...but it was creative using the weight/ball. Thanks for finding the perfect measurement! That was the most helpful part for me!

    Clever use of weights, but completely ridiculous. ;) Waffles are Supposed to rise a bit. Also, you can do without the timer. Just watch the steam. Once the steam stop coming out, they're done. This is helpful since the cooking time may change slightly after one or more batches.
    Nevertheless, I am pretty happy with this as a once-in-a-while waffle maker (won't make belgian waffles though.)
    Another yummy thing is to get the can cinnamon rolls and place one roll in each waffle tray. Or make pizza pockets (without sauce, though. Use the sauce for dipping. )

    A little bit of research will tell you that the lid isn't supposed to be weighted but like that to allow movement. 7 Minutes makes the perfect waffle but your mileage may vary.

    I put a cast iron skillet on top of mine to weight it down.

    He made this waaay too complicated. The weight is crazy ridiculous. You want the waffle to rise be a little crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. Further, you don’t need a timer. You can generally tell that they’re done by watching steam. Lastly, he suggests a perfect measure. 2 methods that I use for even filling is pouring the batter in an X fashion or directly in the center of the plates. The batter will spread and distribute itself as it heats.
    I like to add a a little maple extract or coat the plates with walnut oil. This gives the waffles a lil savory character.

    Well, I guess if you want flat, thick waffles instead of light fluffy ones you should push down on the top. Really!

    • @blackbirdpie217
      @blackbirdpie217 Před 7 lety +1

      He made it look like a piece of shit but he didn't need to do that, waffles are fluffier if you let it raise just leave it the hell alone! Or he's putting too much leavening in the batter.. Or the gravity might be weak where he lives.
