wow I will forever remember watching her as a child growing up in south africa in the 90s when santa barbara was so popular. I was around 7 years old and I can distinctly remember watching her grabbing the bottle of pills and trembling, what an amazing actress
I loved Linda Gibboney and the way she would rant for her "pills...give me my pills." LOL! I was so pissed the day they announced Robin's takeover. BUT, grew to love Robin very much. But two distinctly different portrayals.
Me too, Robin Matson is a great actress, but not for the role of Gina. I think RM would have been better introduced as a new character instead of a recast for the Gina character. When RM took over the role, she did a 360 on the character.
why was linda gibboney replaced by Robin mattson ? was linda fired or did she quit ? what were the reasons behind the change of actresses ? i remember how shocked and angry i was when Robin came down the stairs as Gina because i was such a big Linda fan . Eventually Robin won me over : when Gina and Kirk tried to kill eden in that epic boathouse episode i became a big Robin fan . I love Linda in the role as much as Robin .
tazoz100 Linda left it was her decision! She said she was tired from playing the role and wanted out of doing soap operas. I did like her better than Robin!
@@windwater7777 No, she did not. Linda Gibboney was fired. The reason given to the press was that she was tired, but, in truth, the Dobsons fired her because they wanted Robin Mattson for the role.
To me, Linda held more in the role of Gina than Robin did. Both are fine actresses, however, Linda's pull on the role was more complex and compassionate.
apparently jerome and bridget dobson wanted a bigger name for the role and robin mattson (from general hospital fame) was their first choice in the beginning, but she was still under contract with ryan's hope (as a delia recast) at that time. ironically after linda gibboney was fired, she won a soap opera digest award for her gina.
since my comment i found an article on google which is called " Gibboney fills a generations gap " . Linda chose to leave the show , the circumstances of her volontary departure are explained in the article .
I never gave Gina much thought as a character until Robin stepped into the role. then I was memorized by her. She was more bitchy, more cunning and smarter than how Linda portrayed her. I was a bit tired of vulnerable, weak women on soaps, so I loved Robin's portrayal.
That's fair, but don't you think Linda's portrayal became front and center of the show (during the Christy/Ted trial) and especially towards the end of her tenure? Approximately episodes 250 onward (you can rewatch whole episodes if you do a search). She became feistier and more aggressive, especially when interacting with Eden, Santana, Sophia and CC towards the end. She was drugging Eden, and the scenes with her dressing up as Eden to unplug CC were epic!
Robin Mattson was far better in the role of Gina. I think that she was the perfect actress for the part. Jed Allan said in an interview once that he "loved" working with Robin, because she played Gina like "a great white shark" and you always had to be careful around her.
Sorry to all but Robins portrayal of Guna was more powerful. While Linda's was weak and almost bland as Gina, Robin bought a funny side and strenght to the character. Robin was also more dynamic and a match for CC 1nd the Capwells .
J'ai toujours préféré Linda
Linda Gibboney 👍🔥

Linda should never have left. She was a brilliant neurotic! Always accusing Sophia and Santana of trying to take her little boy away!

Liked them both but preferred the first gina
I preferred the first Gina.

Linda was great but Robin was a different Gina....more bitchie wheres Linda as Gina was a good character even happily married to CC in the early days

DegrassiInstantStar that’s not what I read. How do you know that. Not saying that it was not the truth? Where did you read that?
@@DegrassiInstantStar yes, ratings were horrible and Robin was the bigger star.

@NTG What TPTB did to Gibboney was insulting.
I agree totally
❤🎉🎉😢😅😊
Linda was good but Robin took Gina to the next level.

Christo Bellagio Linda was not fired from the role! She left it was her choice!
@@tazoz100 i think linda's memory of what happened was part revisionist history.
@@windwater7777 In most recent Years she was a college professor at UCLA !! XD
Yes they also wanted Jed Allan for CC but he was still under contract from "Day's Of Our Lives" so they simply waited him out.

Agree 💯Robin had more depth than Linda. Robin was sweet with Brandon, bitchy with CC, romantic with Mason, and feisty and hilarious with Keith.

Linda was the best Gina.
