Making Some DIY Parts For My Adventure Jeep

  • I'm finishing off some fabrication details on the Jeep Cherokee XJ in the form of a snorkel bracket and rear folding step. The NP231 is also in need of some inspection as its making a growl in 4H under acceleration.
More importantly though these projects are some of the last projects on the Diesel XJ for a while as future workshop episodes will mostly be on the 1990 4.0 Renix. I'm keen to get that thing cleaned up and driving!
    Thanks for watching.

One of the best solutions to mount snorkel to the pillar is to glue it in place with windshield sealer. It stays supper rigid, can be removed at any time, no need to drill holes in the A pillar - so no rust in the future, no rattle, no vibrations

    • @WorkshoptoWilderness
      @WorkshoptoWilderness  Před 5 měsíci +1

That's not a bad idea. I think my problem is that I'm using a Hilux snorkel, and it needed bending into place. Seems alright 👍

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the "new" truck in the coming months. Also, I hear you about the insect issue. They can certainly drive one mad. Sounds like you are trying to address that as best as you can, given the limitations you are dealing with. Hi Mike.
    I enjoy all your videos.
You make some great points about the RTT and the flys and summer camping. I think for your location and flys. It makes sense.
My Jeep is setup so I can sleep inside my Jeep. But to do this I modified the front seats with the pivot brackets from a 2 door xj. (Direct fit). So my front seats tilt forward towards the dash just like a 2 door xj. Then I mounted a plywood board to the back seat into the metal frame of the seat with nutserts. That board is shaped to fit around the center console. And folds down on to the base of the front seat. Then I click the front seat back 1 notch. So it stays locked in place. Now to actually do this. I have to remove the back seat bench. Either before I go. Or when I get there. If I’m going out without my kids I leave the bench seat at home. But if they come along. The bench seat goes inside the arb annex room.
If I’m camping solo. I don’t set up the annex room often. As I put all my gear on the other side of the jeep next to me. I have those plastic window vent things on the rear windows. So I can get a cross draft. Then use those stretchy window shade/bug screens that go over the entire top of the rear door.
I’m the rear of the Jeep is a removable shelf. But it stays in place when camping. My feet go underneath. My gear goes on top. Or I can place an iPad up there for the kids to watch a movie.
On a morning I can lean up against the back of the front seat. Like a lounger and have my coffee.
I had to modify my front seats. As I’m 6’2”. And the Jeep just wasn’t big enough otherwise.
Also I have no rear window like yours. So that where the diesel heater pipe comes in. But you don’t need that. As it’s in your passenger footwell.
I think you could probably easily setup yours so you could sleep inside solo. On the opposite side to your fridge. You would just have to move your metal kitchen box next to where you sleep in the rear seat area.
Maybe start by removing the rear bench seat. Fold the back down. Then build something that folds down into the the rear footwell. And is level with your rear sliding table system. I’m assuming that when you winter camp. It will only ever be just you sleeping inside the Jeep?
Removing the RTT might help the Jeep do even better in the snow. As you will be 150lbs lighter I’m guessing?

Mike, I have the locker and a few other goodies to send your way. I've tried messaging your instagram but it's not working. How can we connect?

I checked Instagram but I cant see any messages from you. Do you have email? Mine is info@mcqbushcraft.co.uk if you want to contact me on there?
Alternatively if you give me your Instagram name I can try and connect on there.
Thank you by the way, sound amazing!
