I would not call metroid fusion modern and ridley there was..... the point where I gave up and searched the no damage cheat. while in super I only backtracked and got optional energy tanks in parts I didn't visit for a while.
Sonic 2 it was way too hard
Shao khan in mk 2 and 3
Take Punchout an Sonic 2 off the list
I beat those as a kid back then
Wheres Actraiser?!?
I would have to say Dracula from Castlevania
Mike Tyson is #1 and it isn’t particularly close, especially compared to RPG bosses.
With RPGs, you can level yourself up to the point where you are unstoppable against any opponent and gain powerful new abilities along the way.
There’s none of that against Mike Tyson. Little Mac’s abilities are identical throughout the game.
That’s why beating Tyson was THE video game achievement for a generation and remains impressive to this day.
Agreed. Tyson was one accomplishment I never got past. I also would have put Jaquio from Ninja Gaiden high on this list. The 8 bit era was no joke.
Meanwhile people have taken a step further and beat him while being blindfolded
I'll have a drink for this comment, cheers 🥃
I was able to beat Tyson, but I always had a lot of trouble with Super Macho Man. Timing the dodging of the super spin punch was really hard. Tyson is a harder fight, but once you get the timing down, it’s doable.
I managed to beat Tyson back in the day. Just barely, though. Almost ran out of time.
I'll never forget how Sonic 1 & 2 were both 1 Hit Kill Final Bosses.
Really?
If you lack rings yea
For sure on the first one if u die at the boss zone u are obligated to fight it with no rings later
Both final zone and death egg zone: YOU GET... NO RINGS.. NO CHECKPOINT.. NO TAILS.. 😢, and also, if you die in the original, you restart. If you know what your doing, it ez
Yeah it was super hard as a little kid, easier when you got a little older, but then semi recently I downloaded Sonic 2 on my phone and there's something about the controls on that that just make the Egg Man battle literally impossible
Jacquio of Ninja Gaiden fame. 3 phases, all of them the most difficult things in this difficult game, and dying once sends you back to the very start of Act 6!
Yeah, he was way harder than some of these.
Seeing Lavos and especially Culex was cool. Nice list!
Lavos is easily besides it Ocean Palace version and the Lazy Shell armor on Peach makes Culex harmless and is beatable as soon as you get that armor around lv 19.
The Tyson cheat was ironically the phone number for the Nintendo Customer Hotline.
I'm 30 something and STILL haven't beaten the last fighter in Punch Out ! Hell, I just finished The Legend of Zelda last year.
I'm 34 I think I beat the original Zelda 10yrs ago
I'm nearly 44, and beat both before I was 12 years old.
I think I beaten Zelda back in 2018.
I finished the 1st quest, I said eff the 2nd after raging, and finally finished without any assistance talk about a brutal damn game I recalled alot thought but L6 and L9 1st round is🤬🤬🤬🤬 along with L4 2nd quest 😂 really 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Shao khan really was spanking everyone in the 90’s it was wild
And then he came back a decade n such later in MK9 and did it again! 😂
He was a cheating prick. He'd hit you within less than a second of the game saying "fight"
Back when Classic video games was brutal hard but very satisfied when you defeat the boss.
For me, the NES Kraid fight was harder than the SNES Ridley fight. Fortunately, there's an energy tank in the room. Unfortunately, it's a pain in the a to get without falling into the acid/lava that's hard to get out of and rapidly drains your health. Once you get it, leaving that hole makes you fall into said acid/lava. Also, if you didn't get all the game's power-ups before the fight, it's going to be even more of a nightmare.
I usually went after Ridley first so by the time I got to Kraid I had a pretty strong loadout. One way to take him down is to stay in morph ball and spam bombs. You should have enough energy tanks and the varia suit by then to tank the damage you will take until he goes down.
Idk considering you can just spam bombs to beat Kraid and ice beam to stop his belly projectiles. I rarely used the beam/missiles on Kraid since he goes down much easier with bombs.
Sigma in the Mega Man X series was a nightmare!!!
Yeah, His snes fight is hard, the most hardest one for Me is Kaiser Sigma from X3.
Did you find The Ryu Hadouken One Hit Kill Power up?
True!
Fucking Luke skywalker wanna be man!!!
I remember when I was a kid I could never beat him! It wasn’t until I got the snes clsssic that I could finally nail his ass!🤬😡
I was so glad when I finally beat him!
Part of what made bosses so hard was the soundtrack playing while you battled. Current games like that element. Maybe it’s me.
70% of King of Fighters final bosses are headaches, but almost nobody talks about them.
Mike Tyson's punch out was so much fun back in the day. Loved it.
Oh lord Shao Kahn. He was the deffinition of Rage quit both in Mk2 and Mk3 that bastard is not only a cheap SOB the only way to even have a chance to beat him is to be cheap yourself and even then its mostly pure determination and mostly luck.
lui kang low fireball ftw xD
And even before Kahn in MK3/UMK3 with freakin Motaro who took up half the screen and deflected every projectile.
Geese Howard from Fatal Fury was pretty tough to beat. He cost me alot of quarters to beat at the time.
When they said Bison I thought he's more beatable than Geese Howard and Eyedol from killer instinct, most times there was nothing you could do to stop their moves
Big Bad Baby Bowser from SMW2: Yoshi's Island: AM I A JOKE TO YOU!?!
M. Bison vs. Shao Khan...there's a matchup I'd love to see.
I usually struggle with classic game bosses when encountering for the first time, but Ridley was one of those I beat from the first try without rewinds or save states.
I agree same for me
Should not be in this list in my opinion. Maybe it depends on how much health and missiles you gathered.
I've completed about four playthroughs of the game and I've never lost to Ridley. Then again, I'm more of a completionist with Metroidvanias so I always had plenty of energy tanks and ammo when I walked into the boss room. Just unloaded a bunch of super missiles and it wasn't too bad. For someone who didn't take all that time gathering collectibles, I could see why it'd be a trickier fight.
The thing with Ridley is, if you have enough health and super missiles, you pretty much don't have to avoid his attacks.
Gotta love how 2 of the 10 are fighting game bosses lol Shao Kahn and Bison made me want to throw my controller through the TV as a kid 😅
12:04 I remember beating Culex about a decade ago. Multiple attempts and planning attacks (I had a small notebook at the time with my attack plans lmao) and I beat him. He's absolutely brutal. Not sure if it was worth fighting him, tho
Actually yes: Culex gives you the Quartz Charm, it halves the damage you take, gives 50% more damage to your attacks and nullifies mortal blows.
@@pauloblack5225 The sheer amount of attempts it took me to kill him burned me out lmao
I didn't have that much trouble but I did have some of the best gear and a high level.
@@pauloblack5225 But if you've already beaten the toughest challenge, what's the point? I hate it when RPGs give the best equipment for beating the superboss, it's the one fight it would've actually been useful.
You literally don't even have to try to beat him. Peach is that broken
This list is not complete without a Mario game and you'll find one at the end. Loved the 20 second bloopers at the end too.
Glad to see a game I speedrun on the list. Castlevania III is a hard as balls game
Great list!! What I can recall as one of the hardest boss fights on the SNES was the final Dracula form on Castlevania Dracula X (muscle vampire on a speedo). One hit, you fall off the platform, you're dead. Omg that was frustrating
Donkey Kong on Mario need to be in the top 3 😕
I'm not great at games but found MEGA MAN 7,SUPER METROID,CHRONO TRIGGER all to be way easy games IMO. NES HARD is where the real challenges lie.
I actually managed to beat Lavos, during the Ocean Palace encounter; outside of new game plus, I mean. It was very difficult, since they made his first form in this fight even harder than when you're supposed to fight him. It took a lot of patience and almost all of my items, but I managed to pull it off; and thankfully, his second and third form were at the same difficulty they would normally be at. Your rewarding for succeeding in this fight is the development room ending; that you get by beating Lavos right away on new game plus.
Eyedol from Killer Instinct should have been an honorable mention. Like M. Bison and Shao Khan he hits hard, combos plus projectiles abound, and his hoof stomp can restore health.
Agreed. God help you if you decide to jump anywhere near him.
That and if you don't END the fight in a Ultra Combo Eyedol can NEVER have his HP hit 0 and die.
Beating Killer Instinct on the hardest level with no continues is probably my best video game achievement.
Hardest game I've beat from start to finish was zombies ate my neighbour's thw trip there was hard enough and then that last boss was tough.
I beat that game once. Never again.
You have no idea how many memories this thumbnail brought back! When the thumbnail came across my feed, I was instantly brought back to my younger days in the 90's playing Metroid and sinking tons of hours into it.
Dr Willy from mega man 7 made Me Rage of fear everytime i got hit by him. You right he is extremely hard to beat.
My hardest was Barubary from BoFII (the same one you have to fight first thing in the game and it REALLY kicks your ass!) and what really makes him tough is he’s the 2nd to last boss with no save or way to replenish in between, so you can’t even go all out to beat him!!
Highly underrated series!
Kaiser Sigma in Megaman X 3 is one of the hardest Sigma fights in the X series because you can only damage him by shooting his head which is very small and hard to hit especially since he flys left and right, shots a beam that slowly drains your health, energy balls that go all over the place and missiles that zero in on you. And if you die during the rising lava segment you have to redo the whole fight over again.
And the worst part, he has no weakness
And to add to that only the X buster can hurt him.
I love video-games and learning about everything
That Death Egg Robot is absolute hell to kill if you're playing as Knuckles.
Imagined Sonic 1 in death egg
Indeed, because despite his gliding Knuckles doesn't jump as high as Sonic. And this vid doesn't highlight that you can still die from grazing the spikes when he's walking.
I saw ridley on the title and I was like "I need to watch this NOW"
I haven't played every game on this list, but I can easily, EEEEEEASILY say, that I've never saw Ridley in Super Metroid as difficult. I was happy to have brought that [Blank] pain, even more so whenever id restart the playthrough. Everything else that I've played here, yeah I agree with.
Also, just saying, Sagat in Street Fighter 2 was just as much a nightmare as Bison.
Wow, I actually have every game on this list! All difficult fights no doubt, but Wily and Culex were the toughest for me personally. And even though it's maybe not considered a classic across the board, Lagoon for SNES has a nasty 6 boss ending battle that can be frustrating until you get the patterns down. Definitely worth a play through. Anyways, great video and a nice stroll down Nostalgia Ave.
Peach plus group hug makes you unbeatable with the lazy shell
Aye. The only way to beat Wiley capsule in my opinion is full tanks and trying to get hit by the normal element that doesn't stun you.
Not to disagree with #9 but the Death Egg Robot in Sonic 2 I honestly don't think it's that hard.
Go up against him as Knuckles.
Shao Khan made us cry in the 90s😂😂😂
A great time when gaming was fun and challenging ❤
The real final boss of demon crest.
That bastard is hard to beat
Culex was very painful but I realize real fast I just didn’t have a certain level… I think I tried playing him at level 21 with 3 red essences… the first 3 turns was just reviving one of the teammates staying alive lol I went against him at lvl 27 later he was still cheap but manageable. He kept targeting my Princess lol
Imagine facing an entity so powerful that the only thing you can do is Pray.
Giygas was something else. Love Earthbound!
I love how the first one you showed was the one that instantly came to my mind.
That Ecco boss, horrific
The trickiest thing about Lavos Core was that right bit thing was the actual thing you needed to defeat. As a kid I was so drained once I defeated the humanoid looking one only for it to be revived.
WatchMojo, you dare disrespect Lord Sao Kahn by placing him at #5!!??
best setup i had for Lavos is Magus, Crono and Frog
have Magus use DarkMatter, Crono use Luminaire and Frog use Leap Slash
0:40 SomecallmeJohnny is laughing his ass off at this, A bit of his callback to his Mega Man 7 review nearly 10 years ago.
Akuma was a lot worst...remember fighting to win every fight in 2 Rounds you finally get to Akuma & he totally wrecks you without even trying.
Astroth and his undead form on the second loop of Super Ghouls and Ghosts as it's basically a race against time and the psycho cannon doesn't reach them if you don't have the golden armour and if you take to long with fighting them the time limit will definitely run out and kill you.
I know this is pre-3D, but Shao Khan from MK9 was ridiculously tough.
no 3d was around the first 3d game came out in the 1980 it was called battlezone the in 81 the pc game maze monster came out and it was also 3d
He is so tough in mk2 and mk3 also
@@jsmith3946 did we watch the same video? The guy in the video literally says pre-3D in the first few seconds of the video, not my words, his. I know that 3D VECTOR based games were around back in the day, I played a lot of them, but this video is games that take place on a 2D-Plane or from a 2D-Persective.
@@SkylineTTurbo uh you do know pre means before 3d as in before 3d was around don't ya so I was right in correcting ya
@@SkylineTTurbo pre
preposition
preposition: pre
previous to; before.
"the tree was almost certainly planted pre 1700"
Origin here i a basic definition of the word pre in case you are still learning English
Never played super mario RPG, just seen some stuff about it. The FF music in a mario game is crazy lol
Well, SMRPG was made by Square, so you really should have expected them to sneak in a reference from one of their GOAT franchises
I started playing YS I & II again. Dark Fact at the end of YS I is horrible. I can't even imagine it on Hard/Nightmare mode. I don't have the reaction time that I used to so that's one achievement I'm not going to get this time around.
Fighting Mike for the first tim. Mortal Kombat and Steet Fighter. Chrono?? All started with Dragon Worior on the nes, for me. Love the list
How well I remember the dread M. Bison used to cause, as well as MK2. Mike Tyson, though, will just remain iconic because of his real life presence.
This list isn't complete without the final (true) boss from Demon's Crest. Even with every powerup in the game he's insanely difficult. That thing STILL gives me nightmares.
I love how Lavos has a form that looks like Cell from DBZ. Love that little visual crossover.
Ridley's not that bad. The biggest difficulty from him is he's a speedrun killer, because he's so durable compared to all previous bosses that if you haven't been making sure to gather Energy Tanks and Super Missiles, he'll be able to outlast you unless you're really good at dodging. If you have, though, the fight's just a straight-up slugfest. I will say, even if you have, if you try to regain your health and missiles normally after the fight (i.e. via killing enemies), you still won't be recovered by the time you hit Mother Brain.
And I'm sorry...I still say Dracula is much harder in "Castlevania III". He's got three forms to Death's two, which is one extra form than he usually gets, but the worst part is dying at any point of the battle sends you all the way back to the beginning of the LEVEL, not the fight like in most other Castlevanias. That's what breaks the dang difficulty in an already super-hard game.
By the time you rematch with Ridley you're generally OP unless you've been doing some kind of a min health min missiles run. The second Ridley fight isn't difficult at all. I always thought it was to show you how far you've come through your journey as when you first fight him in the prologue you couldn't actually do any damage. Draygon and Phantoon were both much more difficult battles.
He can also be killed fairly quick with power bombs, takes about five or so, you can set one off as soon as you drop in the room before he appears and he'll take damage. After that just jump in the air and set off some more while he's flying around.
Yeah I'd argue Phantoon is a much more difficult boss mostly because of the lack of save stations in the Wrecked Ship and his patterns being tough to figure out for a first time player. Draygon is very easy since her patterns are very predictable, plus she can also be insta-killed with the Grapple Beam cheese. Ridley is much harder for anyone playing the game for the first time since the Space Jump can be hard for newcomers especially during a boss fight, plus he's way more tanky and deals a lot of damage even with the Gravity Suit
Culex wasn't that Hard if you found The Lazy Shell, & maxed out The stats of Geno & Peach who use Group Attacks, but yeah if you never found it he is unbeatable. At least you get a Final Fantasy Fanfare if you win.
It's not the only bit of Final Fantasy music that's associated with Culex because 4's boss theme also plays during his fight
The first thing I thought of before I even clicked the video was Ecco the Dolphin & it was the first thing clip shown. That game was hard AF.
Top 10 Most Powerful Fire Emblem Characters
Akuma In Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo an To think he would Invade the Tekken universe
Kinda surprised to see culex #1. It's a tough fight if you're under leveled, but with levels and the right items it's pretty trivial.
I think yellow devil should’ve been an honorable mention.
Tyson winks before he punches
Ridley, really? I’m shocked, I always thought he was oddly easy to beat; Just use Spring Ball and spam Power Bombs in the center of the room. By the time those run dry, you’re just a handful of Super Missiles away
This was a awesome list. I can definitely agree on the choices.
Sigma in Mega Man X3 could've easily made the list.
Nice list, but no way Ridley is harder than the Wily Capsule, I killed Ridley on my first try and Wily took me ages, I've fought him a dozen times and I still need AT LEAST 1 E-Tank
How about the princes from double dragon 3? the whole game is bloody impossible but she takes the cake.
Chrono Trigger! Yessur!!!
The stage 5 boss from contra 3 on hard mode should've been on this list.
RPG bosses were generally manageable, I don't know why they are top of the list. The final boss from Double Dragon III or Ninja Gaiden on the other hand..
Giygas was not a tough boss once you figured it out. Figuring it out was the easiest part since every copy of the game came with an official strategy guide lol
And Culex...by the time you get to this fight you have the lazy shell armor. Makes this fight trivial.
Interesting facts!
so many rage moments and broken controllers trying to beat M. Bison and Shao Khan
I always thought Kintaro was harder than Shao Kahn back then.
I recently beat super metroid for the first time, and I'm not sure ridley deserves a spot on this list. Honestly, it wasn't even the hardest boss in the game for me.
M. Bison can be defeated very easily by anyone blindfolded so long as they spam Blanka's electric thunder.
the whole list is a joke seeing they put RPG bosses.
No 3rd night Jason Voorhees? Pretty tough to do if you don’t cheese him
If memory serves, there's a strategy in Mario RPG involving Geno and the Lazy Shell that make that boss deal 0 damage to him, so it just becomes a patients game to widdle his hp down
Master Jelly at the end of the Ancient Cave in Lufia II. You have to beat him in three rounds after playing for several hours going down 99 randomly generated floors and you can't save at any point. I only beat him twice in my life, failed once to beat him in three rounds, and died multiple times after 5+ hours below floor 80 (damn gold dragons!).
one missed was Dark Demon from Demon's Crest! If you don't have any vials to restore your energy charged up shots he's a real pain to defeat.
Round one, fight. Twenty to thirty seconds later, you lose. World Warrior M.Bison in a nutshell.
Evolution worlds ,Prince Eugene - Dreamcast/Gamecube i grinded to lvl 99 guess what the last boss scale to your level never beat the game still to this day.
Always struggled with the spinny hair dude from revenge of shinobi when i was a kid lol
i remember beating mike tyson for the first time and i was so happy
Culex isn’t that hard if you put the Lazy Shell on Peach, it’ll keep her alive almos forever to keep the rest of the party healthy
Ninja Gaidens Jaquio?
Ridley in Super Metroid wasn't hard in the slightest.
Ridley was hard even if u had all intended items(varia, gravity, screw) and many supers
@@MawTaw Yeah maybe, if you're playing with your feet.
Next level hard bosses I tell you that
The player playing Earthbound who named one of their characters Poo is really channeling my childhood here
Maybe do hardest turn-based boss fights sometime? Whitney, Cynthia, Dialga from Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. For newer ones without the turn-based system, Arceus.
Smitty from super Mario RPG legend of the seven stars for super Nintendo
I remember playing Earthbound back in the day and just being befuddled by Giygas. Just as a hail Mary I used "Pray" and when it triggered a cut scene I was like "HOLY SHIT! I KNOW HOW TO BEAT HIM!"
So I can say I beaten this lists hardest boss. The Lazy Shell items really help. And for death egg zone in Sonic too, I remember there were 3 rings at the start before the first battle
Among the bosses that were shown, the Death Egg Robot from Sonic 2, Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat 2, Dark Link from Zelda 2 Adventure of Link, and Culex from Super Mario RPG DEFINITELY deserved being on this list. Death Egg Robot is even harder with Knuckles than anything else due to both the screwy hitbox and the red echidna's lower jump. Shao Kahn gave me SO MUCH TROUBLE I had to resort to cheat codes just to beat him. Dark Link was a challenge due to not knowing about that corner trick that was brought up. Culex was a pain in the ass on so many levels that it took multiple tries to beat him. Furthermore, in order to make THAT fight even remotely tolerable, you'd have to get the Attack Scarf and Super Suit from the "Super Jump Challenge" and equip the latter item to Mario just so he gets the first strike. Having the best items for your active party is key, along with using Princess Peach for healing, and keeping a fuck-ton of Pick-Me-Ups, which are Super Mario RPG's equivalent of Phoenix Downs/Mega Phoenix's, in case you lose anyone. Having the Super Suit and Safety Ring in your possession should negate most of Culex's magic attacks. Forgot what other equipment mitigates the fight, but TRUST me when I say you WILL need them.
