I loved the "acting" in this video, especially the bit at the end where Samus stops, and you can practically see her thinking, "Shit, am I forgetting something?"

You can see a dot flying away on the right side of the planet after the explosion. The animals reappear in Metroid Fusion as well.

That first battle against riddley was kinda impressive.
Yup... the way Ridley was changing colors, he was pretty close to actually dying and was like "man fuck this I'm out of here", lol.

seriously, i don't think even like... i've actually seen a flowchart of Ridley's AI. it's so ridiculously complicated that i don't think even high-level speedrunners bother to learn it. You just go by instinct. And honestly, it makes the people who speedrun things like reverse boss order seem like lunatics...

The fact that super Metroid still holds up today is absolutely insane!
This game came out 6 years before I was even born and is still one of the best games I have ever played. Truly a testament to how well made the game is when it still sets standards and it came out 27 years ago!

That's actually what makes them so scary. No 3D model can convey what these sprites do.
Crocomire was the one who actually got to me. Not the fight itself, but afterwards. Granted, I was subjected to stuff like Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing, so take that with a grain of salt.

I remember when this game came out, saw a friend fighting Mother Brain (he had rented the game), thought to myself, oh same old boss fight I see. Well he defeated the first form, I'm thinking alright it's over. I wasn't ready for the bitch to actually have a body this time, completely caught me off guard, but prepared me for what I was to expect when I bought my copy weeks later. I still have that copy in original box to this day, a treasure of the SNES.
One of the best SNES games ever created. Holds replay value really well. I can't have enough of this game--I can play it in 20 years later and it will still be good.
2D sprites age like fine wine, and replay value never leaves a quality game like this.
Crocommire's death animation will forever haunt me. o_o
How about Bowser's first death in New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS? It's the same as this one, but way more traumatic in my opinion.

My god, "most intense?" Mother Brain's battle is the scariest video game boss battle ever. Nothing else even comes close. Her screams, the music, it's all so terrifying.

18:17 If you had seen other videoes of this scene you'll know this is not a cutscene. The guy in the playthrough made it look like a cutscene where it looks like she finished the brain off but in actuality, you have full control over your character in this scene. The brain will turn to dust anyway. It's a neat little touch that he did that.

I used the "cheat way" to beat Draygon. Let him grab me then grappled the electricity with the grapple beam and watched him fry (also drains your own health but you will outlive him)

It's possible, the battle ends when:
You shoot 100 beams at Ridley
Or the Low Health Alarm starts
I had so much trouble with the Golden Torizo and seeing you cheese the fuck out of it makes me happy

Actually, crocomire NEVER was a menace (It's absolutely unecessary beat him to continue with the game) he just only defend himself of your attacks and he NEVER wants to hurt you.... very sad story isn't it?

I remember playing this back in 99 when I was 5. I don’t think I understood the sadness of the metroid encounters until recently that I played it. I cried after thinking about it for a bit. No dialogue nothing, but either way it is a powerful story.
59 minutes, 100%. That's my best achievement for beating Super Metroid... in 1996 when I was 13 and my dexterity was flawless. Never came close since :'-(

it's impossible to avoid that part. Even if you didn't get hit by it (wich someone has done) the game actually makes you take damage, the beam is just a graphical display, so technically it is a no-damge boss run.

No it wouldn't. Nintendo doesn't really do horror. Plus, the modern graphics would make most of this look really bad, especially if they go for that 3D look they used in the Samus Returns remake.
Good thing Metroid Fusion made the "Save the animals" ending as the canonical one.
Without them, Samus wouldn't have been able to escape the space station.
Total plot twists everywhere!! Completely threw me off with most boss fights! It's like a movie! Especially with the Metroid helping AND protecting Samus. DID NOT see that coming!
