Road March from Kuwait to Baghdad Iraq April 2003

Expedited our move to the Baghdad staging area on M1000 Heavy Equipment Transport Semi-Trailers. From Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait April 18th, 2003 4th ID 3-66 Armor attached to 1-22 Infantry en route to Tikrit, Iraq.

Major combat operations were just about over by the time these guys entered Iraq. No wonder they look so relaxed.

At that time I was eight years old and my father was a pilot of a Sukhoi 24 fighter jet. In 2003 my father was looking at the sky and the American planes were completely controlling the skies of Iraq. I said to him: Where is your plane, father? He said: When you grow up, you will know where my plane is. Then Saddam Hussein was forced to retire. My father was thirty-five years old. Saddam Hussein did not like brave pilots, and he was retired at that time because Saddam feared a coup.
