  • This video features three friends from Bonteheuwel who left school before writing matric. They are reflecting on why they left school and how it has impacted their lives. Close to half of all young people in South Africa don’t obtain a matric qualification. School dropout should not be understood as a single event, but rather the result of a long process of disengagement. Through the Zero School Dropout Initiative, we hope to shine a light on the factors contributing to school dropout and to develop tools and interventions to aid youth to stay in school.
