In our next installment in this series, we replace detail lost by removing mold separation lines, fixing mold issues, and we'll rescribe any lines that need to be addressed.
As always, a tremendous thanks to Marcos Cruz @cruzer2123 for his vinyl top tutorial video:

I take a drink every time you say vestigial nub 🤣On a serious note, cheers to Don Yost and the wealth of knowledge and experience he shared with the hobby.. before the internet the only way to really see and share techniques was through magazines with words and photographs, but he was a pioneer in explaining and demonstrating his techniques through videos.. we learned a lot from him over the years 🍻
I was too, super buzzed right now! 😂
really good episode Frank. I am really enjoying it. I did a build to honor Donn after he passed on my channel. He had so much to share, he was by far one of the most valuable resources I had when I started back in the hobby.
Frank I used to use the method shown in this video for years. Then I found a tool from Ustar I think it was that snaps on your gun cap. Holy cow, I wish I would have invented this thing :)
It works wonderfully !!
I really enjoy your videos and have them on in the background while I’m working on my models
Great video Frank, what you are doing is exactly the same thing I did on my ‘69 Super Bee vinyl top. Except I used Folkart “Chalk” paint mixed to a slight ( off-pure black ) satin charcoal color, shot with the airbrush back at about 2-3 inches away, with the pressure turned down slightly. Same exact effect - paint droplets de-atomize while traveling in the air and hit the roof “partly dried” yielding a perfect “Vinyl” texture. Awesome technique, and yes, mixing chalk paint colors can yield some of the wild vinyl-top colors that were available in the 60’s & 70’s. Keep it up 👍😄😎👌
Thank you, Frank. I had no problem sitting through another one. I learned a lot.
Great tutorial! I always jump out of line when rescribing door lines. Maybe it's the tool or maybe it's the tool holding it. As far as Mr. Hobby, maybe He is embarrassed of his first name. Thanks for sharing.
Love your tutorials. Extremely helpful.🏁
I see you Jo-Han Plymouth station wagon. I see you! Great video series!
I bought that kit on a whim because it was cheap…and never even looked to see if it’s complete. I’ll check it later and let you know.
Great vid Frank!!!!! 🤜🤛
Nice tutorial, Frank 🍻🍻🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🏔🌨❄️❄️
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing Frank. 😃
Thanks for the tutorial frank.👍
Another great video frank! Thank you!
Great tutorial video. Thanks for the lesson
Another great installment
Nice tutorial. Going to use it on my next project, but it’ll be an interesting masking job as it’s for a landeau top. Also it’s a resin body, so any styrene trim will be added with superglue.
Great video. Good information for a returning modeler after 20 years. Now I have to watch your other videos. Love your “stage presence “.
Ps. I’m using my wife’s Gmail account because I’m too lazy to set one up.
Thanks! Laziness is the hallmark of genius. Never let ambition ruin the magnificence of a good nap! 😂
Nice
I've always wanted to do vinyl tops on some cars. I was going to try the masking tape process. Heck I'm already airbrushing with a texture that I'm trying to avoid.
Thank you Frank! Great video! More tutorials please. Have you ever used blue painters tape to create a vynal top? I have also seen a few vids on that.
I have never used blue painters tape or any form of adhesive backed material applied to the surface. I have always used paint.
Tape can lift over time. Paint will last much longer.
Ok. I'll try this technique when I get a chance.
