    Glad to hear they do well in clay soil and are easy to grow.

  • @aspirativemusicproduction2135

    I planted one on the north side of a building. Soil was clay and wet. Still it became many plants in no time. Great success.

    They are very interresting :) i find it very relaxing when i am out working in the garden to just stop and rub the leaves for a little while :) they are so soft.. :)
    It is not as common in gardens these days... my grandmother had this plant too :)

    I was given 3 small cuttings from my neighbor, and this is their 3rd year and they have taken over, but I let them flower and spread, but this fall I will be trimming them back. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

    I know that they can be pretty invasive, but that's exactly why I want more of them. With last year's drought, I'm trying to plant as many low maintenance plants as possible.

    • @sicsemperevellomortemtyran3193
      @sicsemperevellomortemtyran3193 Před 2 lety +1

      They are invasive, but that's a good thing indeed. You can eat it, use it for antibacterial, and you can use it during that lovely time of the month.

  • @PlantzNThings
    @PlantzNThings  Před 12 lety +3

    These plants don't need much care at all. if you want to use it as a ground cover i would loosen up the soil ammend the area with some compost and just plant them. water them well until they get established but once that happens they will grow like mad :) no need to use fabric it will just get in the way.. the clump in the video grew in one season from about 5 pieces. so if your clumps are big enough you might try to cut them into 4 or 6 clumbs each for faster coverage
    Good Luck :)

    Just picked one up at a sale for $5.99. Thanks for the video. It's exactly the info i was looking for. It's also exactly what i was hoping the properties of the plant would be when i bought it. I'm going to plant it under an anjou pear i just planted and then hopefully spread it around the yard.

    I love lambs ear plant, I grew it garden in NEW YORK, I shared it with everyone. I haven’t found it my local nursery in winterville NC. But I’m still looking. Just note if you are relocating dig up your favorite plants don’t assume you will find in your new location.

    Also you have to let seeds dry on the stems. Then pull seeds off. They make a grain. Very healthy for you I've heard.

    Thats a Great idea... i might grow one in a pot... i'm thinking of ripping them out cuz their growing and spreading so fast... i love the plant and love to feel the leaves... a pot really fits the bill.. they will also really easily survive the winter in a pot... Great thinking Thanks :)

    Thank you :) I like it too... it was a shot in the dark but it turned out nicer than i thought.. I can't remember the brand of stain it was. as we got it from a friend and we stained that 3 or more years ago.. but we just restained the deck a few weeks ago and it looks very similar... for that we used CIL semi-transparent stain the light color is Honey and the darker color is Cinnamon. i hope that helps you out

    FYI, in some places these grow wild. They are actually edible (I ate a bite and didn't get sick). Suggestions for eating are the new leaves which are more tender. In the past the leaves have been used for bandages (during the Civil War). The fragrance is delightful. I wet a couple of big leaves and put them on the back of my neck on a hot day, felt great.

    Mine is incredibly hardy, and has started rooting from multiple places along the stems, strangely enough. If you have the kind I have, the flowers will let off ALOT of seeds if you don't deadhead. I'm still pulling up little baby plants. (Zone 7)

    we got it from home depot. the brand is C.I.L Woodcare. maybe CIL is a brand in canada only and perhaps a rep at home depot can help you out.. my fence was new.. we built it ourselves :) it is a cedar fence as well so that might give a different color if your using a different wood. i really hope you can find some honey color to go with the cinnamon :) (maybe there is a yellow pine that might be similar) before your fence goes black :(

      Their medicinal.properties ate endless. From antiseptic, made from dried leaves...toTea. A fruity, apple/ pineapple flavor. Read up on All it's amazing uses. Some Lamb's ear will Flower, their plant not as large as the UNflowering variety. Easy to separate once established. Re-potted for future areas around . No expert, but Lambs Ear is a really neat perennial. Can be steamed @ eaten..chopped in salads. Propagating is really a whole other story....everyone seems to have their own way of doing it. Experiment @ have fun..

    hmmm! it might slowly spread like ivy... as the plant gets tall it might lay down and root from the stem... i can't remember how mine spread.. i think it was both at root level and from the stems.. either way it will spread :) my mother had it growing in the cracks of her patio not on purpose :) but it looked nice in the country setting.

    Very interesting plant. Earth worms seem to love this plant. I was thinning them out of a clients bed. Worms were all over the place. I wonder how it would work as a ground cover with trees or something growing in the cover? Seems like it could be a very good soil builder, and won't let many weeds into it.

    Thonaker1, mine is about to be used as ground cover under my oak tree. The only thing I'm concerned with is the tree taking too much before the LE can get any nutrients.

      Oh i wouldn't be worried at all. I've seen LE growing in the cracks of concrete. and not even big cracks. I mean the ones you have a hard time pulling grass from..lol.. the only thing that would concern me is the Oak shading it too much. But LE seem to grow anywhere :)
