  • Veterans Tip of the Week - Know the Rules for VA Benefits
    Every VA benefit comes with specific eligibility requirements. You must meet these requirements to be able to access and use these Benefits.
    Don't just listen to what people at your unit are saying, go to the VA source and read the eligibility requirements yourself. Don't miss out on something you earned.

    I wish I knew more when I was in Army from 87-91. I paid into the GI BIll, but lost out cause I didn't use it within the 10 years because I was busy raising a family. I think if someone pays into something, they should be able to use it at anytime. Sure could have used it a few years back, but thank you for the information.

      Yeah, unfortunately, I get that a lot. It seems like nobody knew anything accurate about the benefits we were all earning. While I was in, I never really thought about. Since I retired, I think about it a lot these days.

      Yea hell I never paid any attention to it until about seven years out of service.

      I’m going through something now with board of appeals. I started Law School and then applied for chp 33 education benefits, and denied, so had to quit after first semester. So I’m trying to figure out if I’m ultimately approved, if VA will extend the delimitation date since I was unable to go to school from the date I was denied benefits. My last active duty was 2012 before the Jan 2013 forever gi bill date.

    About reservist not called to active duty and not meeting the 2 year enlistment. You can file for a va claim and if awarded, all is forgiven and you receive all veteran benefits including medical. Not many people know this and the VA doesn't really advertise this. A reservist has the same right in filing va disability whether active or reserve just the same.

      I agree that every member should submit a VA disability claim for any service connected item they feel them meet the criteria for. Once they have a service connected rating, there are some nuances in the VA medical eligibility. For example, if the service connection rating is below 50% the VA medical is free only for the service connected items. On the plus side, above 50% rating and you are eligible for VA healthcare. I am not affiliated with any attorney, but here is a good overview of all our benefits and how they are impacted by a service connection. cck-law.com/blog/list-of-benefits-for-disabled-veterans/

    Thank you for your service Sir, I appreciate your videos they are short, precise and to the point. My question for you is I have currently a 70% scheduler rating for VA disability all several of them are most likely than not permanent such Hypertension and Arthritis etc; do I have to be 100% disabled in order to get P&T status for my disabilities.

    • @VeteransAdviceHub
      @VeteransAdviceHub  Před 4 lety +1

      P -permanent, not likely to change; T -total combined rating 100%. These are separate things. They are often listed together because if something is permanent, it likely progressed through several stages of getting worse, which drives the number up. You can have a temporary "Total" rating, like after surgery; and you can have a permanent disability (will not change) and still be under the 100% "total" disability. To get P&T, you have to meet both requirements.

      Understood, although I was discharged in 1979 denied right knee osteoarthritis as non service connected I appeal 28 years later and won. All the other service connected disabilities were all in my military records. Hypertension and several secondary conditions. What I am saying is that had those disabilities for over 40 years and they haven’t gotten better I just was awarded three years ago secondary conditions to hypertension. All in a nutshell my service connected conditions are likely going to get better. Can I asked for permanent and totally for those conditions I have at 70%.
      Thank you,
      Phil

      @@Pj192130 First let me say, ask the VA for anything you want, they may say yes. My review of the requirements: You can ask for permanent -meaning the VA won't schedule any re-exams of these items. Because of your long established history with these issues, it is not likely they will improve. I don't think you meet the requirements for a Total rating, because your combined rating is not at 100%

    What do you mean if you have six years of Guard or Reserve time, what GI bill benefits are you eligible for?

    • @VeteransAdviceHub
      @VeteransAdviceHub  Před rokem +1

      Two different benefits. The 6 year non-title 10 activation for Guard and Reserves are a requirement for the VA home loan. GI Bill benefits have their own, separate eligibility requirements. www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/post-9-11/
