- How to configure SMTP email in Moodle, so that Moodle can generate password reset emails, badges, and more. Navigate to Course Admin - Plugins - Message Outputs - Email, and then enter your SMTP email host, port, username, and password. In this video, we do all of that, and then show email working for password resets.
Moodle 3.5: Dashboard/Site administration/Server/Email/Outgoing mail configuration
Ah! Good to know. I'm looking forward to trying out Moodle 3.5. Maybe a good reason for a new video series. :)
thanks
Thank you so much. It looked like hard but after watching this video I understand that it is much easier like setting another email account.
Excellent! This is great feedback. Thanks!
Thank you very much; it worked perfectly with moodle 3.8
Thank you! I was able to set-up outgoing email in Moodle 3.8 :-)
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment! I have a few other Moodle videos... my favorite Moodle feature is Badges. They can be very motivational.
By the way, are there any features you like in moodle 3.8? I'm a few versions older. I'm due for an upgrade.
@@discospiff I just decided to upgrade recently so I have not had time to explore all the features. I teach academic and plain language and writing skills, so the resources and activities I use the most are discussion forums, lessons, books, quizzes, pages, and polls. At present, I am working on getting the email to work. I'm so glad there are folks like you who make good video tutorials. :-)
Hi Fiona. How did you set up your outgoing email in Moodle 3.8? Because I failed after trying many times in many ways...
@@DRARETNOSAYEKTIMLIS I spoke too soon. The email did work for sending students their user ids and passwords, but it isn't working from the discussion forums yet. I will post my solution when I find it. Are you using Moodle.org as your host or your own server (ISP)? I am using my own server.
WHAT IF I CANT LOGIN AND I WANT TO RESET THE ADMIN PASSWORD?
Hello I'm getting error at moodle 3.7 ,"Your site couldn't communicate with your mail server. Please check your outgoing mail configuration".
Sorry for b the delay in response... did you see anything in the logs? Sometimes you have to turn on enhanced logging. It took me quite a while to get this right, and I could not have done it without the logs.
Sometimes it doesn't work because gmail block access to "not secure applications". To solve the problem go to your Account Google > Security and "allow not secure applications". Bye
Thanks, your solution worked
Do I need to configurate OAuth 2,first?
If you supplied a correct username or email address then an email should have been sent to you.
It contains easy instructions to confirm and complete this password change. If you continue to have difficulty, please contact the site administrator.
but it did not arrive, or I want to send it and it gives me another error that until now, has not come out

Hi, can you help me? Your site couldn't communicate with your mail server. Please check your outgoing mail configuration.
Hi ,
Not able to find email once clicked on Message out
Sir, I have installed Moodle 3.6.10 (Build: 20200511) Version 2018120310. and also set up gmail in this version as you metioned in your video. But when i am login with forgot password, everything is ok with message "If you supplied a correct username or email address then an email should have been sent to you.
It contains easy instructions to confirm and complete this password change. If you continue to have difficulty, please contact the site administrator."
But there is no any mail receiving in the mentioned email during the forgot password windows. What should be the problem actually? plz help me
This is tricky to debug, as there could be several causes. The first place I'd look: do you have a firewall that is blocking that port?
Tried this with my Moodle site, but I am still getting an error "Unable to send email" - any tips?
It's not always straightforward, and there's can be other factors, like firewalls... turn on advanced logging in settings, see if that uncovers anything.
@@discospiff Thanks for the quick reply, is this within the Moodle settings. And, if so, where is this? Thanks.

I don't recall needing a plug-in for that... it worked right out of the box.
This video is a couple of years old, so my memory may have faded a bit....
