    The lyrics are about being a relationship with somebody that you love so much but also have those moments with where you just want to kill each other. It’s all about that dark side of love that nobody ever wants to talk about.
    It’s cool to see more people in the US checking out Biffy. They’ve been my all time favourite band for over a decade. You should check out some songs from their first three albums if you want some heavy songs with screaming!!

    • @RoryADTR
      @RoryADTR Před rokem +2

      This is actually incorrect. The lead singer, Simon, his mother died of cancer I believe, and he wrote this song about the abuse he suffered from his father afterwards. His father was angry and upset after his wife's passing and so Simon let his father take out his anger on him.

  • @lynnejamieson2063

    A couple of points regarding your accent points, firstly a Scottish accent is a British accent. Secondly, there is no such thing as a British accent, there are hundreds of accents in Great Britain/The U.K.
    You’ll find that the percentage of Scottish singers that sound overtly Scottish whilst singing (outside of Scottish Folk Music) is relatively low. If you are heading into a Scottish music rabbit hole, you might want to check out The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, Travis and Paolo Nutini, as the singer of Garbage is Scottish too, you could possibly include them as well.
    I know you’ve got quite into Oasis, did you know that they got their record deal after performing at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow? If memory serves me, they weren’t actually on the bill, they kind of gatecrashed the stage between acts, Alan McGee (co-founder of Creation Records) was there, loved them and signed them.

    • @rob8609
      @rob8609 Před 2 lety +1

      Great post - True regarding the accents. But they need some slack cutting on that one.
      As a Brit, to me, Embrace The Suck have American accents. I have no idea where they're from in America.

    • @lynnejamieson2063
      @lynnejamieson2063 Před 2 lety

      @@rob8609 if I’m not mistaken, they mentioned Scottish accents and British accents and I was aiming at kind of gently correcting their geography. I know that our whole countries within a country thing must be more than a little confusing for most but it does grate somewhat on the nerves of the other three nations within the U.K. when either U.K. or Britain/British is used instead of England/English when referencing the countries individually. So the the first part was meant to be a correction and the second part a little further information (in the first paragraph). I by no means thought that they should be able to breakdown where they were from and wouldn’t have pointed anything out if they had just said that they didn’t sing with a strong British accent. I hope that makes sense 😊 Take care.

      The Narcissist Cookbook is a Scottish artist who's criminally slept-on, and sings (and raps) in his native accent.
      Most likely hasn't broken through for being overtly political and weird. Half his songs can equally be considered video essays.

    So glad you have started your Biffy journey. Simon Neil, and the band, is from Ayrshire in Scotland. There are so many different accents in Scotland (and england). Next should be a live performance. Glastonbury was good, but another of their easier listening songs (for Biffy anyway) is Bubbles. czcams.com/video/e1bMJL7QZMU/video.html

  • @mattpotter8725
    @mattpotter8725 Před 2 lety +1

    This song was covered by winner of the UK X Factor Matt Cardle, although the title was changed to When We Collide, which is why I'd guess it is top of the list of their songs. You should have a listen to that as well (even if you don't react to it). I'm not sure I've ever listened to the Biffy Clyro version, but have heard other songs from them, which you should definitely check out. Also check out Franz Ferdinand, another Scottish band.
    On a tangent I was watching a tv program recently looking at the history of British pop music and whilst bands in English had certain influences Scottish bands had a distinctly American influence and this is why in the 80s and 90s they had a different sound.

    These guys are a raging force of nature live if you can find any clips.... If you want some absolute precursor music to all the 90's bands you have been following you need to look up 'The House of Love' and Songs from their seminal album of the same name from 1998 shine on or Love in a car. Shimmering guitars and the band Alan McGee who owned Creation records thought were going to take the world... He eventually found Oasis who as you know Did. Lots of Creation Bands to go after.... Jesus and Mary Chain ( anything off Psychocandy album will really challenge you some!) and a link to all you have been listening to backbto N American band Velvet Underground who are the basis of UK indy music... Go to House of Love' first though. Did a 30 years since the album tour in 2018 and did it start to finish at the start of the gig. I looked round and there were blokes in their 50's with tears on running down their cheeks as it took them to a different life...

    Hmmm some Biffy. Go down that rabbit hole you'll enjoy it. Bubbles is a good song. Kings and Queens and Machines are also good.

    You guys should check out the lead singer's side project Marmaduke Duke, more dance inspired and wonderfully oddball. Kid Gloves or Rubber Lover are good starting points.
