  • Little known fact….your hard palate is a fantastic tool for focusing resonance when you sing. 🦷👄😁
For example, to get a great “pingy” resonance, just visualize sending every vowel like a beam of light from your hard palate, up behind your eyes and out the top of your forehead.. (That’s what I was visualizing in the video here while I was singing)
It has the great effect of pulling the sound out of your throat and right up into the mask taking the pressure off your larynx.
I didn’t learn about this until at least 20yrs into my training. Crazy!!! How are there all these incredible tools out there that go unused and untaught? ‼️
    Well, not anymore.
👉 Starting on April 29th, I’m hosting a FREE, 5 day online training event for serious singers who are longing for those game-changing technical tools they’ve never heard or been taught before so they can be bulletproof EVERY TIME they get on stage. .

My teacher did teach me to use the hard palate, but I’m grateful for the reminder, because I’ve been focusing on the soft palate for an aria that includes a couple of climactic high C’s. They’re good but I think they can be better with more focus on the hard palate. Thanks so much for bringing up the topic!

Hard pallet and soft pallet are both great to use them .
Some sounds are better as woofers from soft palate combined with dynamics when / if the vocals (other than m & n) are too nasal.
But some sound are better for bright color sounds by using hard palate combined with dynamics as in sounds of **n-G** but also it depends if vocal defects of nasality are existing on some people then I can't say that to use hard palate until a genuine vocal teacher gets hired for inspection .
It depends on the type of emotions upon the words & phrases as twanging them are to be expressed in the story that you say it by singing them to the crowds on gigs or concerts.
      Sometimes it's hard to
choose when it's lack of practice or experience.
Every sound required always air by dropping air upon words or phrases that I can't explain it to myself but I only know it for sure it's there like that..

You're so welcome Margo!! Soft palate is important, so don't ignore that, but your high C's will be WAY more buoyant, sparkly and effortless if you can find the sweet spot that lives around hard palate as well. I'm gonna be doing a whole day on the shape and space of resonance in our 5 day online workshop next week (it's free btw). Will you be joining us? You should!! Here's the link with the info and to register: ardenkaywinvocalstudio.lpages.co/workshopapr2024/ I hope I'll see you there :) We can work on the hard palate together.
