According to my ballistic calculator, when you sight in at 100 yards you are 3.2 inches low at two hundred yards, and if you sight in at 200 yards you are only 1.5 inches high at 100 yards, it seems like a 200-yard sight in gives you a more practical sight in for most hunting applications.
Exact setup for my 85 grain gmx 243 Winchester. 1.5 high at 100 yards for 200 yards zero. Excellent
I agree 100%, maybe his is a muzzleloader ya think?
@@dalanwanbdiska6542 Thank you! I run 80s/86s an accurate for those is hard ta find
Could you tell me what your poi is at 25 yards with a 200 yard zero? I dont really have access to a spot that's 200 yards to zero but places I hunt have that kind of range.
Yeah but at close range downhill you could shoot over on goat sized animals.
I'm so old that I recall "The Battle of the Small Bores" back in the 1960s. The thirty calibers were the kings of the woods back then. And along came the .243 and .270. Since I'm a big bore (.32 and up) lever gun kind of guy the "little bores" have never found a place in MY gun safe. But I must admit that I've seen many a deer and hog taken cleanly with both .243s and .270s. I'm probably going to be flamed for saying this, but some folks consider the .243 a beginners or small persons (think pre-teen, teen or lady's) cartridge. If I were to suddenly feel moved to switch to a bolt action rifle, I would not feel under gunned when hunting deer or hogs with a .243 loaded with modern ammo.
Great video! I like. 243. Very versatile and useful caliber that has been around awhile. Nice rifle too!
Great video. I had a 243 before I gave it to one of my kids and it is a great hunting rifle.
I love the 243, it's definitely an oldie but goodie!
Love my 243, interesting. Haven't shot for long, thanks for the vid from Australia 👍
I am going to love this class. I need to learn abou dropping when firing from different angles
One of my favorite videos you ever did was just you and your wife and you were giving her a quiz and she had a name on each cartridge was that you had laid out in front of her. I was new to firearms at the time so help me learn about different cartridges. Sometimes so new to something you don't even know what you don't know and that was one of those things. Thanks for the years of fum who-tee-whoo
That was a fun video
You did say at the beginning of the video that "we were about to have a real fun video". I was pretty sure you were using the catchphrasound. All I know is that you were having so much fun especially when she was getting hung up on a cartridge.
Appreciate it.. Just got to be able to shoot it with same ammo so I really appreciate ya. Hope to catch some this year
Love the long range videos. I am drooling over the furniture on that beautiful Weatherby.😍😍
Always appreciate you watching Eddie
Fantastic job. I really like how you did this. And, you're a good shooter too. That helps trust the data. Too many channels, the shooter isn't good enough to demonstrate. But, you are. Great job young man.
🙏🙏🙏 thank you. I appreciate you watching!
Good and important video, especially for hunters. Adam, to "completely" get info on behaviour of the ammo you should use 2 chronographs simultaneously: one 10 yards from barrel, second just in front of the target. Possibility of hitting the Chrono is small (no fliers and precision is good enough as far as I can see)
I only hunt out to 300 yd so I sight all my rifles in one and a half inches high and 100 that puts them dead on at 200yds and they're all between five to seven inches low at 300. that leaves very little guesswork and no having to adjust the scope.
Try a 36 yard sight in , if flattens the trajectory curve quite a bit. A lot of SF operators have adopted it.
@@donaldmartin4980 All the 36 yard vids I saw involved AR rifles.
@@cbsbass4142 trajectory of projectiles traveling at about 3,000 FPS are all very similar, they vary a little depending on ballistic coefficient, but out at 300-400 yards or so it really is not enough to matter. Anyway just a little food for thought, lol.
And importantly, less wounded critters ,
Great groups bud , keep up the good work
Always appreciate you watching
My deer rifle is a rossi single shot 243, vortex 3x9x40 scope, and shooting barnes 80 grain triple shock. Love all copper boolots.
I always sight in at 50/200 because 243 is the largest caliber I have and never shoot beyond the 200 mark unless it's predators or something small.
Thanks Adam! 243 is a great round, one of my go to ones…. Good printing on the paper.
It's Who Tee Who jabroni
Adam that is a nice boolots slinger. I never have harvested a Whitetail with a 243. My Howa 1500 and my Ruger American need to get out in the Deer Woods. Great Shooting.
Couple yrs ago .243 was on short list but no ammo to be found...that's a nice one!
This is another re-upload? Either way, never can have too much .243 content.
Not a re-upload. I did 243 once before, but that video was demonetized by youtube and was with different ammo
Absolutely awesome video and information brother!!!! Tha KS for posting this!
Thanks for watching!
All of my kids shoot a .243 for deer. Rarely is a shot taken over 200 yards. If the animal is over 200 lbs over the shots could extend beyond 250 yards, we use a gun with more "horsepower". The next step up for the kids is the 7mm-08. Great shooting, by the way. Keep up the good work.
That’s some good groups. And sharp looking rifle. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching Dwayne
Had some amazing accuracy with the 95 grain SST , would be curious what the corlokt tipped would do
Thank You for the information .
I love 243 and you holding a great hunting rifle I gat 3 of them they served me well , Some hand load with 95 gr vld are a good hot ticket @ 600 yards for antelope!
Good shooting dude very informative
Best gun CZcams channel there is
🙏🙏🙏
Nice shooting and nice rifle sir
Beautiful gun
Enjoyed the video as always That's some good shooting brother
Thanks for watching Merlin
Very nice video and educative thanks.
That’s a fine shooting tool for you or the kids to use. Some good shooting with my favorite bing bang slinger, dad, entertainer, hunter and good ole boy for the shooting sports. 💪🏽🎥💯👍🙏🏻
Interesting, thanks for the video. Indeed a very nice and extremely popular caliber, this as well as the well fantastic .270 Win. Take care my Southern Brother From Another Mother. ✌️😎👍
Very nice weapon WTW! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Yep, I'm sure of it love that rifle! Would love to see that in the .257 Weatherby.
Really enjoy your channel. Regards from Australia 🇦🇺
Appreciate you watching!
Awesome stuff! 👌
Hey Nathan!
G'day, Its good to see the charts. One Idea would be to have a comparison round that you show side by side. Use the same comparison chart each time you do a new cartridge. If you make the .243 the "standard" round then you will get some that drop more and some that will be flatter shooters.
I gotta say those Weatherby's are one fine looking piece of machinery.
Hey man. Range report on my CVA Scout 6.5 creed pistol with 2-7 vortex scout scope and new 6.5mm hypertap muzzlebrake-kicks like a .45 now (instead of a 454 casull before) and i just shot a 0.149" 3 shot group at 100 yds with Hornady 143 gr eldx. That setup is Dynamite!!!
Have ya ever looked into 6mm remington, same 243 caliber with a lil extra kick. Beautiful gun by the way
I think you had like 7,000 subscribers or 17,000 when I met you and I watched you grow and it was pretty cool always enjoyed a good paper plate comparison. I hope that legal thing you had worked out and you got that product returned and they're leaving you alone
Man that Hornady 80gn CX has been insane! I've shot 4deer with them and everyone has dropped in it's tracks not a step more! it punches their ticket to deer heaven before he hits the dirt i even shot one at 110yrds and same thing he didn't go 20!
Nice job! Check out Max Point Blank Range, (MPBR).
It's not for 500 to 1000 yards, but for fast accurate shooting within distance, according to caliber and ballistics. You decide the diameter of the kill zone, at close range you hit the top of your zone at the extended range you hit at the bottom of your chosen targeted zone. Excellent for those who don't want to have to know nothing but the farthest distance of MPBR. Which you can easily pin point with a range finder and make mental notes of in the bush. My 243 with my hand loads puts a dead center hold out to 365 yards if I remember correctly. Long shot for the average Tennessee and Kentucky hunters with no holdover or turret twisting. I've used this for years hunting varmints to whitetail and it is simple and flat out works.
Great video!
Keep'em coming WTW!
It works to man. It's Ron somers go to rifle setup sight in procedure!
I meant ron Spomer sorry
@@jasonashleytillman880
That's not surprising Ron and I have both been around awhile!🤣😂
It really is an excellent way to set up a hunting rifle. Especially for short to medium range hunting. 300 to 500 yards ain't no chip shot in my opinion. I always felt it was easier to hold under point of aim at close range than over at long range. Just my experience over half a decade of being an active outdoorsman. It's a simple but very effective and suprising way to take game at longer ranges.
I recently read that for a .243 with 100 grain bullets and a 25 yard zero, the maximum point blank range for a 6" target is 296 yards. That means that you can aim dead on and be within plus or minus 3" out to almost 300 yards. Three inches high at 100 and 3 inches low at 300. Good enough to be in the kill zone of a deer. That works for me because I decided that I won't take a shot beyond 300 yards.
Excellent! My friend Jack, who hunted Central MT every Fall, would call that “Hold on Hair” sighting in! All of his deer/Elk rifles were sighted in so there wasn’t any guessing, out to about 250 yds.
🇦🇺😎👍Mine is a Howa 24” varmint with a decent size scope and it shoots like yours with factory ammo . You shot well 😎✌. The 243 is very popular down here
I always love the bullet drop videos. I'm wondering what program or app do you use to build the sheet, for the drop that you show on your channel? Thank you in advance if you get time to answer.
Google shooters calculator
Thank you for the info, and as always we love your videos.
Wow Nice shooting Adam , Steve .
Hey Steve!
Loved it
who tee who how bad is the recoil on a 450 bushmaster and can you do some more vids on 450 bushmaster would love to see them
Hey wtw...really enjoy ur channel...fixin to buy a rifle...know some about them but not much....always been more of a pistol n revolver guy...but i wont a rifle cuz i dont have one...got pistols, revolvers,shotguns...no rifle...ive been researching the lower cost ones like ruger american which i like alot and remington 783,savage,etc.....im not goin to be hunting just mainly target shooting for fun but do want something powerful enough to take down a deer if i chose to...ive settled on the 243....thinkn it would be just right...question is ,is there a certain one you would recommend because of barrel heat up?so i dont have ro wait for it to cool....maybe a bull barrel?or am i overthinking it and it would be ok to shoot 8 or 10 rounds ...let it cool some ...then shoot more?...thanks buddy.
I'm setting up my next coyote rifle it's a Tikka t3x lite stainless in 243
I'm very excited and I can't wait to see how it Shoots
I do enjoy the bullet drop and accuracy test videos and I think that accuracy testing with a CMMG bravo 22lr conversion bolt for an AR 15 would be a neat video.
Done that before :)
Good information!!
Thanks for watching
My composite stalker X-bolt thanks you 🙏
I sight my 243's at 300 as a factory 100 grain load ( Winchester 100 gr soft point) my favorite does not have enough rise or fall to worry about bullet drop from 50 to 300 + yards to be concerned with. My most favored 243 is a Wal-Mart closeout purchase Remington 700 ADL Youth model with a cheap plastic Remington factory stock. I replaced the plastic trigger guard with a steel one. This rifle has a one shot kill record of: 1 at 200+ yards, 2 at about 75 yards each, 1 at about 50 yards and 1 about 100 yards. Each list here was by different people. Translation: 4 different people 5 shots 5 deer. Each list was at different years. 2 were adults and 2 were children. My estimation this is a good track record!
I have been using my Remington 700 BDL . 243 since I bought it new in 1977. I have taken mule deer, white tails, coastal black tails and wild pigs with it. Longest shot measured was 370 yards….. everything ended up in the freezer, no tracking, only two deer did I ever shoot twice and that was just to finish them faster.
Brilliant thank you 😊
Thanks for watching Scott
I didn't get a notification on this vid.
That sucks, but bullet drop vids are always good to know and see.
Daggumit YT
What is the twist rate on the weatherby?
My old Remington 788 chambered in 243 Win. has never failed me when I was counting on it to make me look good from 50 yds out to 250 yds.
Great video buddy
Thanks for watching Carl
the big question is do you sight in for a cold / clean bore or a hot / dirty bore on a hunting rifle
Gorgeous rifle. Mine is in the satin finish
Weatherbys are one of my favorite... easily get sub MOA out of my 270 vangaurd
Have you tried the Winchester deer season xp in 95 grain, thats the bullet I get the best groups with using my vanguard rifle.
I have a savage arms .243 and I love it. It seems to be a highly underrated caliber
Savage axis xp2 in 243. Is a real shooter. 1 shot 1 kill on anysize deer. Even elk and moose.
@@dalanwanbdiska6542 I got the old axis youth that I got for my oldest daughter(she doesn't hunt any more) so now it's my foul weather gun. It's such an accurate little, light weight rifle!
I had a vanguard 223 action was awesome shot fairly good but I could not stand the trigger way too heavy no adjustment if it had a better trigger I feel it would have shot really good but I set it packing to a close friend for his boy good quality gun though just wish they had adjustable triggers I like 1.5lb or less for varmints
Well now this was a interesting video and that weatherby 243 is definitely a good shooter. Now if you had the end of your barrel threaded you could be running your silencer Central banish gold suppressor.
Wish it was threaded
Why would you want it threaded, or a suppressor? People been hunting fine since flintlocks without all that.
This is why I love my 243. Wish I could afford that beautiful Weatherby. My Savage Axis looks so sad in comparison. Shoots well though.
That's a fast cartridge. Great penatration for certain things!
🇦🇺😎👍Lol ya never miss with the 243 , it’s a laser 😉✌
First beautiful rifle.
Great info to share.
Thanks for watching jerk
Nice shooting rifle and rifleman.
Good shooting WTW and good information
Thanks for watching
Good video
Now if I could just find some Core-Lokt 243 on the shelf near me... Still looking for it. I would love to see a comparison of the std Core-Lokt verses the Core-Lokt Tipped for the .243.
Flies off the shelves fast still here
We use a 60 gr hollow point here in Pa . 3” high at 100 yds dead on at 400
Who makes hardened .243? Or other .243 designs?
My Steven's 200 .243 with 1.5lb trigger and different stock shoots really well out to 800. 95 tipped matching at 3100 is 17.5 moa with 200 yard 0.
Walking gun for groundhogs.
Thanks much WTW
My Stevens .243 and factory trigger, factory stock, topped with a $50 Tasco 3X9X32, shot a .38 inch group (all under a dime) at 100 yards. Ammo was Hornady Custom 75 gr HP. So, I never knock a Stevens.
Dude that was awesome what length the barrel do you have on that?
24 inch
would the bullet drop be the same with 243 ruger
For deer hunting, most hunting ammunition needs 1,900 fps of velocity to expand properly.
According to you chart, that makes this a 400 yard rifle with that ammunition. That leaves you with 28" of drop.
This is the weakness of a lot of calibers. The combination of bullet velocity and ballistic coefficient isn't optimized for shots over 400 yards. You'll see similar max hunting ranges with most calibers. Either the heavy bullet means slow muzzle velocity, but a great BC or the light bullet will have poor BC and a great muzzle velocity.
Many of the newer rounds are solving this issue with longer and higher BC bullets available for the caliber. For example, the standard 243 maxes out around 95 grains of bullet weight. But the 6mm Creedmoor has a slightly heavier bullet with a much higher BC, but manages to keep the velocity very close to the. 243. That's why it's effecting range is longer.
My favorite cartridge and my budget friendly ammo 👍
Hey Chuck
I sight all of my rifles in 3&1/2 inches high at 100 yards. It's good out to 400 yards that way. With most standard calipers hold at the bottom of the deer inside 150 and at the top of the spine at 400. My 7mm Rem mag is dead on at 400 yards.
Nice looking rifle
Love it
That is one good looking rifle.
😍😍😍
Thinking about getting shusher can do they ship your stamp to your door with the shusher can?
Yes
That’s my favorite rifle that you have.
You stole my comment 😂.. it is my favorite.. and it’s not even mine.. WTW
Favorite cartridge.
Gotta love 243
I started with the 100gr core locks and liked them then a older gentleman told me to try some 95gr hp and they perform great! Big difference on putting down game might want to take a look at a 95gr
👍👍 shot 2 deer w the 95s last year. Video is up
Nice video WTW, just bought a Ruger American in .243. It seems to me that even at 200 yards, 1-2 inch bullet drop would still be in the vitals of a deer so why change your hold position at all? What do you think? Also, I noticed from your chart, the energy at 300 yards is over 1000 ft. lbs still enough to ethically take a deer! At that range, I would definitely hold high.
Still enough to take a moose. Ive seen it done. And dont come at me with that ethical bs.
Because I want to hit exactly where I want to hit. Not within 1-2 inches of where I want to hit
... I recently had one of our range "gurus" tell me that I should be "zeroing" my 308 Win bolt action at 200 yds ... my centre fire scopes (mostly VX 2&3 level Leupolds) are 2 turret (elevation, windage) HUNTING scopes with no user accessible parallax adjustment so the discussion about "zeroing range" was already over before I took them out of the box ... in most cases 100-150 yds ... for longer ranges its "Kentucky holdover" & a prayer ... I also chronograph my own MVs at 5 yds ... the on package MV stated on most factory ammo boxes is marketing BS ... I then use MV from my chronograph and the publish bullet BC to print my own ballistic tables using various online ballistics websites
Love your videos you only one with semi bolt action rifle the editing 2 shots before ejecting shells just being funny very informative
Edit out the slow parts bcuz ppl lose interest so fast these days
Yeah it's sad cause you have awesome videos n very informative taking the time n expense to put these out every day
@@jaymeyers950 appreciate you watching bigtime
Pretty rifle, BTW....!
I think an interesting one to do would be the .22-250 because I know from experience that it’s a very flat shooting round even out to distance.
Already did that one
There is nothing like some wood furniture on a rifle and a nice shined up blue. That gun makes me want a .243 so bad haha. My first deer rifle was a New England Arms .243 with a “fancy” thumb-hole laminate stock and a Simmons .44 Mag scope (with sunshade to look cool lol). I used the good ole Lokts too. I could hit a Skoal can at 300 yards as easily as taking a breath. I miss that gun. I think I may get me another .243 soon. Just for the heck of it lol. Happy hunting brother.
🦌🦌🦌
That 44 mm simmons Aetec scope is hard to beat
You should get some of that siezmic ammo especially the 12 gauge slugs they got 9mm to .now I seem to remember a video something about black magic slugs and a 590 lol I gotta see that
I asked them to send some out, but they weren't interested
I use a 87 GR hpbt in my 243 and it does good for deer it's going 3200 FPS.
Bullet drop is useful to know and its all people and computer programs continually emphasize but max ordinate is what's useful to understand trajectory behavior to the target...bullet drop is useful to get on target at various ranges but you better understand the apex of trajectory to help you understand point blank range....but computer programs dont tell you that kind of information...its like the difference between knowing how to read a map vs blindly following GPS directions which can get you backed into a corner and not knowing how to get out..
What zoomon your scope are you using. Im finding it hard to see holes.on paper at 100 and impossible at 150. This is on 10x. Cheers
This was 15x I believe
@@WHOTEEWHO thank you sir
Hey WTW you have any plans for 6.8spc?
Nope
