That’s why your subscribers love you Lindy…you’re REAL. I appreciate your explanation of your diabetes. I'm so sorry! I lost an aunt and Uncle from complications from type 1 diabetes. My uncle was a juvenile diabetic and died last year at 50ish plus some kind of cancer and my aunt was diagnosed as an adult and had a massive stroke and died at 50 something. My uncle had the hardest time controlling his diabetes and was constantly having to be rushed to the hospital and unconscious and it's such a big shame. I hope your sister gets out of the hospital soon. Staph is very bad and scary especially if you're a diabetic. Good luck to both of you!

Good morning, Lindy & Marley. That's great that you lost all that weight.
I'm diabetic and haven't much taken care to eat right, but I am now. Because my finger stick was 165. The Dr said if I don't take my glimiperide (pill) twice a day the sugar doesn't go away. That made everything click. She referred me to a dietitian. And, she got me set up for future teaching classes like you did. Now that I'm on Medicare, the ins will cover a certain amount of visits/phone conferences. I couldn't find my blood testing kit since moving so I went and bought another one. It doesn't hurt as much pricking my finger. Sometimes I forget my pill and it shows in the a.m. I'm cutting down on carbs. Snacks are mostly out. I binge eat too in the past. Got fruit, whipped cream, cottage cheese, things with low carbs or cut portion sizes. Trying to hydrate better. So a.m. blood finger test is lower and even low 100s unless I forget the pill. Metformin was horrible. I got off that. Thanks for sharing your journey. Have you tried watermelon with cottage cheese? It's so delicious!
    Take care, Lindy.❤

I love ice cream, too, same as you. If it's in the house, watch out! Anyway, it definitely ain't easy. 😕 Keep up the good work. Stay safe and well..we REALLY need your inspiration!

Great information Lindy. Very straight forward. As a nurse, I will add for your audience, patients hear what they want to hear. If you heard one professional say losing weight would help, that’s all you were ready to hear. Chronic disease is a process and takes time and adjustment. So glad you are an active participant in your health!

My mom had diabetes from her early 30s, and I grew up watching her give herself insulin shots twice a day. She was in a world of carbs and reading books, raising 8 kids. We lost her when she was 64, but 9 years before, she had one foot and ankle amputated. So I have been trying my hardest to not get diabetes. I love pasta and breads, so I am adding fruits and vegetables. Lindy, I have health issues and just feel drawn to your channel. I find a lot of info by Dr Jason Fung on youtube. I am needing to get my weight to normal. Thank you so much for your videos. 🎉

An "ice cream" fix that may help some folks: 1/2 cup frozen blueberries chopped in a food processor, add just a little almond or coconut milk to make it creamy, top with a spoonful of almond butter.
*Wild blueberries generally grow where pesticides are not used and have less sugar than commercially grown blueberries.

Lindy, you are a smart cookie. Lots of folks just don’t understand how scary diabetes can truly be, you were smart to wrestle that monster and show it who the boss is. I’m heavier than I have ever been, I can tell the excess weight is messing with my bp, hernia and joints. I am back on my greens powder and can hardly wait to get back to normal. The fact that I can hardly afford to eat should make the process easier for me and the greens powder is full of fruits, vegetables, minerals and vitamins. Plus if ever I am forced to live in a vehicle, the greens canister takes up very little space.
So thankful to you for sharing your knowledge of such an important subject. Be safe and well. ❤

Great advice Lindy. One of the answers to good health and longevity is better control of our diet and weight. We live in a world that would have you take a pill for every little annoyance and try to sweep the side effects under the rug. Side effects lead to more pills and more money in someone's pocket. If I took a pill every time a doctor told me to I'd be taking a dozen and I sure wouldn't be as healthy as I am at age 67. ✌

And the other sister is taking a pill once a day for her diabetes!! So far I have been blessed but my Dr does check it every time she can, just to be on the safe side she says, and I won't complain about that as just last month my little brother has stated taking a pill now for his!! And yes we are all over weight, but I don't really care a lot for the sweets, even though I am the baker and jam canner in the family!! Good video!! With good information!!

His numbers for his kidneys were to high and they tested him 3 weeks in a row and finally said it’s the Metformin doing this to you. Also we’ve both been on Mounjaro and I’ve lost 25 lbs. am no longer obese but sitting just inside the overweight category on my BMI. I’ve cut the Metformin in half also. My A1C is 5.8. Moderation is the best. I lost a ton of weight, and I still allow my faves to stay satisfied.
I make myself eat something 3x a day to maintain energy/health/keep trucking.
Pop, at 98yo, is the same...making himself eat 3x, to live. It is necessary.
With Moms genetics, I have to keep an eye on things. I inherited 2 of her 3 forms of arthritis, and I keep a constant eye on my blood work.

I was also going through early menopause and had back surgery and had just lost my husband. It was the hardest time in my life and very stressful. I personally think having all these stressful things going on cause me to wake up and deal with my stress. I am doing great now. It also had taken me 3 years to control it as well.

Hard as it is to lose weight, it really can make us so much healthier especially if we substitute good foods (protein, veg, fruit) for the sweets we eat less of. My daughter has used Weight Watchers a couple of times and their system really worked for her. I'm 69 and managed to lose 3 lbs last year. Not much but it's going in the right direction. I weigh 152 and would like to be around 10 lbs lighter. It is all about making changes for the long term. I recently discovered that frozen strawberries eaten one at a time get rid of sweet or ice cream cravings. Works with frozen pineapple, too.

Thats great advice. Jenny Craig who had weight loss clinics all over the United States advocated for 6 small meals thoughout the day. The biggest problem is that a serving size on most fast food is ment for an active person. Like someone mowing the lawn/cleaning the house. So when i go to these places i throw out half. My body is just going to turn it into waste/fat. Everyone in my family of 12 siblings has diabetes except for me. I use my health app on my phone and record how many calories i consume, as well as water consumption, walking steps, and sleep. Most people who are no longer "active" and keep under 1700 calories per day, eating healthy foods , wouldnt have a weight problem according to Jenny Craig..

Daughter has type 1 diabetes. Can't control it with diet. Only insulin. Pancreas no longer works , thus no longer produces insulin.
Wish hers could be controlled without injections. Things could be worse...

But still controlling her eating keeps it down. I understand the problem my granddaughter is on insulin. Sorry you're going through this with your daughter.

You're right, Type 2 is a blessing. I'm Type 1 ... 5'7", 110 lbs, exercise, no sugar, low low carb, insulin injections .... I still can run high, or crash ...it's a nightmare.

Can they prescribe something else besides Metformin? I've heard bad things about that medicine.

You have a horrible dr. Metformin is an old, outdated medicine that causes more issues. There are loads of newer medicines without the side effects. Knowing your history of side effects, your dr should be trying you on different kinds. I've heard of many drs still pushing metformin because the pharmaceutical companies give higher kickbacks for it.

Sometimes the newer medications cost too much. Unfortunately our health insurance system punishes those who can least afford illness. 😒
