One of the best hovercraft reports - Great close up and action shots and even reports the price which is for some reason really rare!

There’s a company in Canada that makes a very nice hovercraft. May get one in a year or two. I think the price is around $55000 CDN

I loved my hovercraft ( UH16P ) . it was unofficial because I used the plans for a UH 15 p and made it 1 ft longer and 6 inches wider..only one like it. Skirt wear was my biggest problem. I put a 4 cyl. Subaru on it and it was tail heavy it originally had a Rotax 52 Hp engine and weighed about 50#. The Subaru was about 82 Hp and weighed over 120 # . I had it for 10 years and it was a lot of fun!

Nice soundtrack on this one.. and cool video!! I'm so lucky to live in the Internet Age where I can have a small taste of this experience without dropping $40k. I feel it works best as a spectacle anyway - surely it is best that we enjoy this from a select few on YT rather than tons of people dropping their life savings on beasts like this. Very cool.

  • @southwestidahooff-roading8606

Nice! I think you answered every question I had. A hovercraft isn’t very practical where I’m at. The Sherp is still at the top of my list.

As far as my opinion on hovercraft go if I had to choose between a speed boat and a hovercraft, I would take the hover craft if it had solid reviews for floating without the lift fan running. It would be ideal for someone who plays on a lake or river with many sand bars or islands.
That being said it is not really my first choice for an ATV considering my local terrain. (mostly wooded hills and valleys with 1 big river and many small streams) personally I'd be interested in an Argo 8x8 (but too expensive at almost $50,000) or building my own tracked amphibians ATV for under $2500 like one of your videos showed off last year. Sadly due to the inability to find small car tires like the video I would have to find a matching set of used ATV tires and rims and thats not cheap. then building the hull after i have the tires as a base for measurements. As an alteration to the design I would be using a zero turn lawn mower for propulsion and adding a small prop out the back of the hull using the electric clutch that was for the mower blades to turn that gearbox on and off so I have propulsion in water, hopefully enough to fight a current. I have plans drawn up im just looking for the tires, and a place to work. I know where to find everything else.
Then again an amphibious armored troop transport like the one you had on a couple months ago would be really nice. would have to do something about fuel economy though or find something like it.

I would have hovercrafts & airboats for land/swampy areas/snow/ice/sand etc
The airboats would be like the smaller of the hovercrafts and would have watertight seals for the cockpit/cabin in case of capsizing etc..
I would rather build one or part build them as $75,000 is a tad steep..

How durable is the skirt - I imagine a sharp stone or a peace of metal in the ice can tear it apart, let the air out, and force the craft to "land"?
Also - reversing trust seems to be the new braking system - maybe also a more precise steering system.

I think it's incredibly inexpensive. $75,000 for something that carries 11 people with those capabilities is amazing. A hovercraft like the larger one would be a very good alternative to a yacht tender or runabout and the fuel consumption is much better than an equivalent boat.

Unlike boats, ATVs and even small planes, Hovercraft seemingly never did have any have of an impact in the recreational marketplace. I have heard of small on-person craft as well as other that could seat 3 of more. One would think that a craft that could transition from water to land effortlessly would have been popular in that particular sector. I would be interested in any thoughts or reasons why personal Hovercraft never caught on.
