To be fair, you'd have an amazing reputation among mercenaries - why wouldn't they want to work for someone who's known to never lets his own soldiers die? Heck, you'd realistically even get preferential treatment in the form of discounts and extra squads per mission!
and this is why in HotS deathless Raynor only produces Mercenaries.
Mercenaries are a supplier market though not customer market so he cant actually negotiate can he.....
@@badrinath5306 Granted, often the price for a mercenary contract can very depending on how dangerous and or risky it is (depends on the mercenary/mercenary group of course).
Though, since in this case he'd be known for not a *single* person under his command dying, it's possible that the contract would be seen as "less risky/dangerous" potentially, meaning it might be cheaper than it otherwise would be.

The rule is that he can't lose any units that he has control over. In that mission he has control over units, and those units must die. That breaks the rule, so he must skip it.

Amazing. The effort to finish "All in" without losing a SINGLE UNIT was outstanding. I would never know that this was possible, specially in the last mission. Congratulations, man.
This is a fun video, and one that definitely shows one of the cooler replay values you can get for an older, but definitely still solid game.
Wings of Liberty is one of those games I come back to a lot, and usually I try and put little restrictions on myself when I start such as "Confederacy Only" (Using only units that originate in the Terran Confederacy of SC1, so marines, firebats, wraiths, vultures), or "Lesser Gems" (Only using troops that are not the best in slot such as Reapers instead of Marines. Diamondbacks instead of Siege Tanks) To this day though, one of the most fun runs I ever pulled was a Mercenaries only run. Using only Mercenaries and support units. (Such as Medics, Ravens, or Science Vessels.) It's tough, but if you can keep them alive, much like in this run, you generally have enough raw power in the Merc Compound to clear any mission.
Still, I have never been so gutsy as to try a challenge run like this, and goodness was it a fun watch. I'm happy you thought outside the box and really stuck to the spirit of the run, rather than the practicality of it. Can't do a mission without losing troops? Then you have to skip it. (Such as In Utter Darkness or Safe Haven.) If there's a risk someone's not making it home, we don't take the job. Same with rescuing units. Sure, they're not technically your troops, but if they could join you, you better bet Raynor's Raiders is going to save them.
I give you immense credit for being smart with your unit choices, especially your use of Ghosts and Banshees to really needle around those missions that were clearly made to be a meat grinder. Very fun video, and I am incredibly excited to see how the finale works out, even if I'm almost positive doing this challenge on the epilogue campaign is functionally impossible.
why did you allow support units for the "Mercenaries only run". the first 6 minutes of all in should be the only problem with pure mercenaries only.
@@Penguiniel It's not about All In. It's about getting to All-In with only a tiny handful of units you're allowed to make. Don't get mercenaries until after Mission 4.
@@arbiterally101 I should clarify. I meant only do the challenge when applicable. The challenge doesn't work for mar sara or any no build mission or section. when I did this I only allowed only workers and builders and mercenaries. Other starting units must be killed. SCV attack wasn't allowed. buildings that deal damage weren't allowed. I did use bunkers with mercenaries in them, but not strike turret. I played brutal difficulty. I didn't allow support units because they didn't seem neccesary. I don't expect that you would use the same rules; I was just curious about what you did.
this challenge doesn't work for marsara. liberation day doesn't provide any mercenaries or support units. can you win without using jim or your marines? after killing your starting marines, the outlaws with medics only is impossible. medics can't deal damage to the bunker. zero hour is basically just pacifist with this challenge. this is possible for normal difficulty, but probably not brutal difficulty. mission 4 with medics only is probably possible for casual difficulty by manipulating the zerg ai, but probably not brutal difficulty.
many missions start with a no build section that isn't possible with only mercenaries and support units. try the beginning of supernova without using your banshees; it doesn't work. maybe you could do something for ghost of a chance with mind controlled mercenaries. most no build missions don't seem possible with this challenge.
the mission order is very important for a challenge like this. with a good mission order, most missions are not too difficult. the dig and all in were the 2 most difficult missions for me because the lazer drill and the artifact are not mercenaries.

AKUJIRULE
You can't skip a cutscene and have everyone ok. You have to manually lose your units.
He did it deathless till the required kill count, but he didn't include it because it would've given him protoss and zerg research early, which felt like he was getting for free on a technicality
The rule is any units that you control can not die. He will control those units. That mission breaks the rules by default so he pretty much screwed himself out of some research points from the beginning.
Perhaps.. but the protos skills you get from that mission is real. so you have to play by the rules or not play at all.
@@TheGeoCheese Couldn't it be possible to save your units using the mothership at the right timing ? I'm not sure at all (and didn't play SC2 for a loooooong time), but if you get like 20 seconds of "stasis" and mass your units at the right spot so they don't get attacked before most of your buildings fall, I assume it might be possible to have them survive until the mission ends ? (or maybe, since vortex doesn't seem to protect the ship... just move it to the safest possible place and recall army there ?
Unless the mission doesn't end until your units are actually killed, I tend to think something is doable (like in the "Ground Zero" mission of SC1, which was hilarous)
(another idea could be to mass flee with transport prisms while the base falls... not sure its doable either, btw)

Each time I rewatch videos on this channel, this first video makes me appreciate newer Grant's microphone 😅
That was actually really interesting! I would love to see more challenge videos!
6:13 - Units rescued: 22/26
Them Reapers. An oversight? :P
Yeah I also noticed that. Although technically I guess the Reapers didn't die as they all spawn on high ground. But I found more unnecessary casualties: 19:57 he didn't save all colonies from infestation :(
Next: Beating Starcraft 2 by using units and technology that available in starcraft 1 and its expansion.
I'm curious, could you just neutralize kerrigan by letting her fight a command center for the whole mission and never respawning (and thus never getting her other ability)? It looked like you were easily outpacing her damage with repairs, although maybe it's too hard to coordinate the rest of your defense around her...
Anyway, awesome challenge! WoL is awesome.
She wont attack the command center unless its a planetary fortress, Otherwise she will ignore it. But then the fortress will just kill her.
@@chellezkid4108 well, that's gonna take quite a while isn't it.
@@georgiishmakov9588 it really doesn't, planetaries do a lot of damage.
It's a late reply but it doesn't matter if you kill kerrigan, she gets her other powers based on time not death so it's probably not possible to keep scvs alive while keeping the fortress due to razor swarm so killing her is the most ideal solution
@@thetheory6159 The conspicuous fact that all non-spell attacks do up to 6 damage to kerrigan including planetaries:
Marines in Warfield cutscene on char: I'm gonna end this man's whole career
skip the cutscene , no one dies then
@Mistjor But no one dies so hey, still a happy ending?
Damn... that "All in" Kerrigan trick was amazing xD
If I was a soldier, I'd want this guy to be the commander
I love this series! Simply must come back and watch it every now and then!
"Just this once, everybody lives!"
Very cool summary of a even cooler challenge, looking forward to see next campaigns :D
I love these - thank you for putting the time, effort and talent to this.
Absolute legend. Well done for sticking with it!
6:25 my dude, that's kinetic foam.
This guy be like “We’ve never lost a man on the battlefield”
I challenged myself to complete the last level on Hard with no casualties after watching this video, and I just did so a few minutes ago.
Thanks for the strategy, the battle was absolutely glorious. I may not have completed the whole campaign the way you did, but if I can do "All In" with no losses, then that's all the proof I need that I am a master.
So so nice to watch ! Your commentary is really good, touch of humor is perfect, keep up the good work, loved it !
