Another great video! I appreciate how you stay neutral in the Wired vs eCells debate. I have a Wired Freedom and a Cruiser, and while I don’t own a Five Star, I’m sure it’s a fantastic bike too. If I had 2k to spend on another e-bike, a Five Star would likely join my Wired bikes in the garage. We already face enough criticism from non-e-bikers, "Karens," and spandex riders, so there’s no need for us to turn on each other. At the end of the day, we all have amazing e-bikes, and it shouldn’t matter what brand you ride as long as you’re riding. So whether you have a Wired, a Five Star, or any other e-bike, enjoy your ride and stay safe out there, everyone.👍
Close to 40 miles range with mixed terrain with a 220+ Lbs. rider is fantastic

Question: I assume you chose Level 3 PAS because it'd give you longest range with a decent speed. But the reason I have ordered the 5 Star with the extra rear battery is I want to keep up in traffic and not ride in the bike lanes when possible, so lots of battery capacity will be needed. I'm thinking PAS 5, with speeds ranging btw 30-40mph depending on traffic. As far as your speed I'm guessing, cause I didn't hear you talk about it, that your avg speed was 25-30mph with some medium-effort pedalling. I'm also arnd 215 pounds.
I've got to wait 2 months before receiving my custom optioned bike from E-Cells, and would be curious if you or a willing ChitHead would jump into the car lane of surface street traffic and talk about that: is the acceleration peppy enough from 35-40 to be useful? And how does it do in more hilly areas pushing it in the 30-35mph speed range- that's a big one for me, there are countless medium inclined windy roads that'd be super fun IF I could manage to not get run over by impatient cars!

Oh shoot, another Five Star in the area? The whole time I've been riding, I've only seen 1 other Wired Freedom, and zero E-Cells bikes.
@shootthechit yep I usually am riding around Oakley and Brentwood areas. I've never seen either one around either but I am brand new at e-bikes this five star is my first one and I think I made the right purchase. I have been thinking about taking it into my old bike shop in Antioch and having him adjust and fine tune everything on the bike. It runs great but I'm not good at bike stuff.

Nice high quality, funny video, thanks for sharing. FYI, I found out from David Cleavland himself Hentach recommends not exceeding 230 degrees Fahrenheit motor temperature. To turn on motor temp set C8 to 1.

? for you and other ChitHeads: I assume Tannus Armor inserts are THE BEST flat protection, but are there downsides, like lower top speed/ acceleration/range/feel? You use a tire sealant, do you prefer it over the T Armor? I hate flat tires so I'm willing to make the effort!
I like flat out better, it's cheaper, easier, and you get a bit more range, but the inserts work well too. I hear the inserts flatten out after awhile and don't work as well as when they are new

Looks like the 8-speed is holding up so far? Nice to get some detail shots of how you installed the thumb shifter. Do you think there'd be room for the DNP 9-speed to fit?
ALL major delivery services are a nightmare to deal with if you've got a signature-required delivery coming. It took me most of a week to get UPS to finally deliver a guitar speaker that I ordered from a guy down by Riverside. I told him that if I bought from him again, I would just drive down and pick it up. Also, pray nobody ever sends you anything through DHL. One time, they screwed up so bad that they had the delivery guy come back out in his own car (which I'm pretty sure he used for all his deliveries) to tell me that he had chucked the package over the neighbor's fence two doors down and he couldn't help me. Thankfully I was finally able to get in touch with the neighbor a couple days later. I'm worried I'm going to have to take a day off work and camp out next to the street when my ebike comes.
Also, not gonna lie, Brentwood really is kinda scary, but Stepford Wives-scary rather than El Machete-scary...
I believe... but don't quote me on this, that the 9sp would work as long as its a freewheel and not a cassette. You have to make sure you get a shifter that is compatible with whatever derailleur you end up going with. I was really on the fence with filming the install but it adds so much time to the process and I get frustrated as is , so I decided not to lol. If I do it again I will film it, but the shifter was pretty much the easiest part of the install Ran the new cable through the existing housing and bolted it to the handle bars.
I wonder what percentage of Brentwoods population drives lifted trucks? 20%??
@@shootthechit I will have to measure it when my bike gets here. According to their specs on Amazon, the DNP 9-speed freewheel is 3mm wider than the 7-speed. We will see, but I am glad to know that the 8-speed works. The only reason I am curious about the 9-speed is because Shimano's new entry-level CUES stuff starts at 9 speeds, and that makes me worried about how long 7/8-speed stuff is going to continue to be available. If I did go with MicroShift, it would be nice to have the option to go with their mid-range 9-speed setup as well.
The funniest thing I remember from when I lived in the area was all the guys from Discovery Bay who would put leveling kits on their lifted trucks... so the body was flat when driving unloaded, but then would totally be dumping ass whenever they towed their boat (i.e. used the truck for what it was meant for).
I currently own the brand that shall not be named and I have a question that maybe you'll have the answer to. Are the batteries interchangeable between the unspeakable brand and ecells? Asking for a friend.. Keep up the awesome chitty videos!

Hey I was riding my 5-Star on a dirt road near my house and a pick-up truck was following me. He had the entire road to pass me no other cars were on the road. So I turned around and glared at him and he finally passed me, but yell get your fat ass out of the road. Man it is tough living unrestricted don't know how you do it every day. 😀

For the 26x4 tires I use 16oz in each. Get a 32oz bag and use half in each

I called to order one and ask a couple questions, but got the ol' answering machine. This bike you're riding, is it the 17" or 19" and does it have any upgrades? Apparently they're charging you $300 for tariffs if you add any upgrades even a lousy tire pump! Uh, no thanks. Anyway, I'm 5'11 and about 220 lb and you look similar on video, sorry if your not brother haha.
It's the standard 17" frame with no upgrades. I'm 6'2 and this frame is a good fit, I wouldn't want the 19

Hey Fed-ex deliver my 5-star a day early, the driver couldn't lift the bike off the truck. I had to give him a hand.
I guess it will vary greatly depending on what area you live in. Its a wild card where I live.

Sorry, I'm not unsubscribing from the channel. That did make me laugh out loud, however. Point of curiosity: do you think tire inserts affected your milage? I know what you mean about your tan. My wife calls me "the triple-toned man".
The inserts do effect mileage. I did the same course with them, and without them but with flatout and got 34 with, 38 without. The inserts work well but add rolling resistance due to the softness you can't inflate your way out of
What is your guess on the range of the dual star?
Well the additional battery is 15amp, 75% the size of the regular battery so 37.5 miles x .75 + 37.5 = 65.625 so about 65 miles would be a good guess.
Probably longer than the range of my butt!

A slight voltage drop in lithium ion batteries is normal immediately after a full charge. The cells will balance themselves.

Yea, I notice they drop, but I though it was funny it dropped a half volt from moving the bike a few blocks with no power. Most of the time it will drop to 66.8

I don't understand why I don't get full 45 mph speed (just only 41 mph instead of full speed) by my E-cells Five Star. My height is only 5'5" and my weight is only 132 lbs. Please, anyone can help me out?
You're not going to get 45mph unless you're going downhill. Fastest I got on my bike was 37-38 on flat ground throttle only.
