It's also funny that when shadow saves Rose at the end of season 1. Rose mentions how he saved her once before when she was a child and shadow says "i thought that was a therianthrope girl" so he was remembering when he saved Yukime.
Yup. It was a glorious Easter egg/foreshadowing that I was on my feet in excitement about! It's one of those special anime added moments which has all source material lovers giddy about.

It's hard to consider Gettan a victim when he decided to betray and kill the strongest warrior, in the battle when they needed her strength the most. He was clearly a monster and deserves no pity.

Facts
As was shown with Beta mistaking Shadow protecting the girls during the Blood Moon arc, rather than the coins embedded in his suit, Yukime's misunderstanding will fit right in with the rest of Shadow Garden.
Because in that universe, the world seems to bend over backwards to make everything go Cid's way. Even when *he* doesn't recognize it as such!!

@@malice926that was the fun part of it. I learnt about money from the Extra Credits series so it was fun seeing all that knowledge being applied.
That moment when Yukime was almost dying and the last thing she hears is Cid yelling: "Yo, give me all your money!"
And then he saves her again, simply because he wants money. I heard how the anime actually shows Cid more from the pov of the other characters, which makes it a lot more serious. Because while Cid is just doing his roleplay Shenanigans, the rest of the cast fight an intense and gruesome fight, all the while Cid is none the wiser. I do think the Light Novel is good. But I am very happy as an anime only. And the manga is releasing in German too, so I may pick that one up. But damn, Cid is saving so many people while out hunting bandits that he keeps forgetting who they are. This anime is truly a masterpiece.
I mean he didn't save her twice for money. He could've very well let her die the first time they met, she was a random npc bleeding out on the floor. Cid may be insane but he's still somewhat human, he'll heal innocent people if it's not too much trouble. It's just that for him healing someone from bleeding out is a passing thought and everyone else thinks it's god's work.
the funniest part to me is now that Yukime has aligned with shadow garden she probably wont ever know that cid was just in it for money. As despite cid being an utter idiot he does care for his subordinates in shadow garden( like how he felt when they left him the first time) granted they probably inflate his feelings towards them a bit. Yukime will probably be seen as a vital asset and tho very one sided she will believe he will always protect her and by weird manga magic he probably will.
Very beautiful video. I was wondering how they were going to explain the whole backstory of he, but in opinion I think they did great with everything so far while they did some stuff out that is to be expected.

Honestly they could've given Yukime a few episodes to develop her character a little more especially for people who've only seen the Anime & haven't read the manga.
I concur. She is one of my favorite characters in Eminence in Shadow.
It could have been good to expand a little more on its story but, being only an anime watcher myself, the show managed to convey the situation to me quite well and I actually felt sad for everything she went through BUT not gonna lie, it was really hard get to picture in when did Cid does appear to save her the first time
not going to lie the "enigma code machine" was hands down the best easter egg this season seconded to Victora 😆

And she woke up, she found all the attackers dead too among her people's bodies.
At least, that's what I remember happening.
It's no coincidence that two warring factions just so happened to stumble into Yukime and Gettan's tribe so there is legit evidence of cult manipulations.
i really like you did this look into her back story, the anime is great but it does cut really cool details with characters that makes certains moments more complete

I am once again here to say that Eminence in Shadow is 1000 times better when you look at events through the eyes of everyone except Cid. Dude does not care about literally anyone. He beat up a blind man because he thought he stole his money.
you say that but if you read the manga and light novel theres actually more to Cid that the author is flowing about, he does things he doesnt need to alot of the times that feels more herolike almost like hes cough cough Garo OPM

I actually mainly, nigh only, love Eminence dearly because of the dramatic, dark, epic overall story. You could even accuse me of ignoring the goofy shite, and I wouldn't see a reason to say differently. I'm not much into funny animes these days, even though some comedy shows are just too good/interesting to pass over(100 Girlfriends, Spy x Family, etc), and I have to admit that Eminence's comedy is about as hilarious and dumb as it could get. Cid's inability to understand anything about his effects on that entire world is my uncanny valley which I overlook.
That was his primary reason for being there and trying to extract information from him, but do not forget that he stumbled upon Gettan almost killing Yukime so that was a factor too. Plus, this is quite literally a world where theft usually results in crazy fantasy level violence.
When u are strong enough to take over the world by force but chose not to cause its not fun, u really dont have have to think much about other people. Cid only cares about looking cool and role playing 😅😅😅

Anime made Gettan sound like he was someone who wanted to become stronger to protect his treasured ones but he wasn't all that good to begin with. He was already brain washed to the point he wanted to use the cults invention of the pills to make him and his clan stronger instead of training and do it naturally. And he used the chaos to eliminate Yukime's mother so that the rest of the villagers submit to his command and use the pills. He was a lost cause. He deserves no respect 🙅♂️

I played the mobile game and it had Cid running through the woods thinking he sees magic then getting splatted by the truck, but on hulu the girl he saves says “but I’ll never get to” or something and it cuts to after his death then the next episode its him talking to himself after getting reincarnated. I feel like there’s scenes missing but im not sure, since I don’t have HiDive.

You could discuss cut content from previous volumes of the Light Novel in relation to the events from the newest episode, like Beta seeing herself as a lovely princess & how that calls back to when Shadow would tell her fairy tales as she struggled to sleep in her first days as a member of Shadow Garden. You could also discuss the absence of certain characters & how it hints at what comes next. Speculate as to why the author put Princess Alexia & Blood Queen Elizabeth together in the sauna, etc. I think it would be something you can just have fun with if you want.
I really do feel like the anime didnt want to do detail backstories because this character just came and goes. Either die on that ep or became irrelevant after the next ep so the studio didnt care much to do full back stories lol. Like when Saitaima came and one punch everyone. Give one reason why season 2 is only allowed 12 episodes and episode 8 is apparently a fully original episode which could have been used instead to flesh out Alpha's fight against John Smith and expand on Yukime's reasons for revenge? I will admit all of Shadow Garden do deserve a break after the ordeal of Shadow turning against them but a full episode dedicated to that is not necessary. I rather waste time writing my own set of episodes adapting the volumes of Shield Hero by the letter than watch Season 3 because I did that with Season 2. No joke I haven't watched any anime for nearly 8 months.
All that aside, it's funny how Cid no longer cared for anyone or anything but himself being so detached with the usual human pleasures and happiness in his past life yet in reality in his escapades to steal money when he was a kid, he goes as far as saving Rose and Yukime which wound up shaping both of their lives as they grew up and shaping himself through the eyes of people he saved to be a hero who gave them a second chance at life and in the case of Rose and Yukime, the man they had fallen for.
so they are making a habit of straying a bit off the source material

I think I find it so hard to get invested in Shadow Garden because I just can't get behind Cid as a character. He just doesn't care and might as well be living in an entirely different world that everyone else. I know Cid's delusion is part of the joke but the dude comes of to me as such a sociopath in the anime that I can't get invested in him as a character. A big deal when the story is mostly told from his perspective.
He’s not a sociopath and he does care. He doesn’t have to save people, yet he does. Time and again, he’s presented with situations where a true psycho would kill the innocent or just let them die, but he never does.
He’s no knight in shining armor but he’s not a monster either.

Like Mushoku Tensei, the story of everyone but the protagonist is a 1,000 times better.
