      I think I saw similar deaths in at least a dozen of other movies: one character gets his head out through a window, and when he gets back in, he has a hole in his head, his throat is slashed or the head is simply missing...Sometimes, the other characters start screaming immediately or they might not be aware of what just happened, they chat or do other stuff and only after a while, when they turn to the dead guy, they notice something bad occurred(their reaction can then vary from horrified to comical, depending on the movie).

    I expected Tara's death in Terrifier, I even expected it at that moment. I did not expect Art to pull a gun, as one expects slashers to abide by a certain 'code'. Which made that moment very effective. Art isn't a slasher. Or if he is, he has a different code. Something like 'be silent' or something'. Though I think Art just likes killing and at the end of the day while he prefers sadism, pragmatism is sometimes just more practical.

    • @pookeywan
      @pookeywan Před rokem +9

      I feel like it's set up that the mom is still grieving (in her own way) her mother's death and wants her son to take Charlie to the party because she thinks (obviously mistakenly) that if Charlie is there with him, he will keep an eye on her (which will keep him from doing the things teenagers want to do at parties). She's also not a "little" kid, which would definitely make it stranger. Also, the cult is shown to be influencing the decisions that the family is making; so that helps to explain a more unusual/unlikely decision. But, yeah, in "the real world", it seems like a strange choice on the mom's part.

    Kirk from the original TCM definitely counts, I think. There's no real indication that Leatherface is going to ambush him and take him out so suddenly (the soundtrack is dead silent until AFTER Leatherface drags the body away), and he was on his way to investigate a strange room that most films would allow him to at least enter and see it before getting attacked.

    • @calamityradio

      Considering that this was one of the first slashers ever made and one of the ones that helped pioneer the "final girl" trope, moviegoers back when it released had no idea what to expect from TCM when it came out. @The Mop no its not... in the trailer they show m3gan chasing the boy... and you usually don't see kids killed in movies so I took from the trailer she pushes and hurts him, but the trailer never shows the kid getting hit by the car, so when it happened I was totally shocked by it completely

    It's still hilarious how much the studio realized they fucked up by killing Randy that they "brought him back" for the sequel

    Maybe in retrospect, it doesn't feel like that big of a deal, but I'd argue Drew Barrymore getting offed in the opening scene of the original Scream is about as sudden as it gets. She got top billing for that movie and I remember thinking as I was watching it, she was definitely going to escape to set up the rest of the movie. The fact the movie had the balls to kill the top star at the very beginning of the movie was shocking at the time.

    THANK YOU for the spoiler warning on Barbarian!!! I love watching these lists to find new movies to watch, but sometimes haven't gotten to the newest yet and so it's really disappointing to have things spoiled for me. I appreciate the heads up so I can quickly pause the video and continue to enjoy it after skipping the spoiler!

    I was truly heartbroken with that Barbarian death. 💔 I truly love the actor (I don't want to spoil the name here to people who haven't seen it). I guess the movie makers chose the actor in purpose because of the last biggest move the actor played in. 😀 It's a decent movie, I like it because of that particular actor...

    The death of the new student Teresa in 1969's The House that Screamed. It shocked because for 2/3 of the movie she is the main character, then after her death a previous villain fills that spot.
