  • It's Burger Time!!! :) American wife goes to McDonald's in Germany!
The (probably) most popular Fast Food Chain in the world? Is McD stepping up it's game?
It is time for Deana to compare German McDonald's to the original from America! We buy a lot of things, some of them neither of us had before and test how good they really are in Germany.
Deana is also answering the big question: Is German or American McDonald's better?
Some things were surprisingly good, some surprisingly bad.... featuring a 8€ Burger?!
Let us know what your favorites are when it comes do McDdonald's Burgers, Fries, Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Sandwiches, Dessert etc.!
Also, which one is better: McDonald's or Burger King?

It's always interesting to see the menu differences at McDonald's in each country. There are a lot of things in Germany that you can't find on a US McDonald's menu. Have you tried any of these? Let us know your favorites! 🤗💜

The big tasty is pretty good. I ate it a lot during my 20s in Russia :) The signature collection is also nice but expensive. You mentioned Five guys and their cheeseburger costs almost 10 euros in Germany which is pretty crazy for a fast food meal.

I'm interested how much you understand from a Bollywood Film in Hindi. Me and you might speak English but not everyone does. And even if someone does he might not be as fluent so it could be hard for him/her to understand what's going on. When i was young and learned English in school we went to see a Star Trek movie in cinema with original voice but i cannot remember many of it cause i did understand only half of it. A lot of context was missing and i was confused what is going on. This is not plesant to watch at all ... so NO that is NOT an affront to the actors to watch a dubbed movie. Particularily if the dubbing actors are as good as in Germany.

The big problem with sodas in America is, they are all high fructose corn syrup sweetened, so they taste way too sweet, German soda is just way better.
So if you take a trip to America, just go to one of their local stores and look for Mexican soda, they taste much better.

I’m Mexican American and it’s true. Mexican sodas taste completely different than the ones in the US. I currently reside in Germany, and the Fanta taste MUCH better than the US. The color of it also just shows how the US Fanta is more artificial. In Mexico, there’s other sodas like Manzanita, Squirt and other sodas that just have a more natural taste.

They had chicken wings separate from the ChickenBox - they called them "Ueberflieger" and they were really good! (I usually had to ask for a separate cup with only ice cubes - the servers just couldn't bring themselves to put enough ice cubes in with the drink). One of the McDonald's in Dresden also had a soda machine like in the States - with free refills. But, the best thing about the McDonald's on the way to Dresden (from Berlin) was the ample parking lot and the free bathrooms!

Thanks for showing us new products! What I miss most about American McDonald's - the Sausage McMuffin. It existed in Germany until suddenly last year it just went away and they switched the American breakfast sausage for a regular hamburger patty. I went crazy cuz you can always just order a burger if you want one, but McDonald's was the only place in Germany I could find American breakfast sausage. (Think Jimmy Dean.) I love that Phil agrees BK does better chicken than MD, I used to order a Long Chicken with added tomatoes (free) and the addition meant they'd make it fresh for me and a piping hot Long Chicken is amazing. I'm sad he gave a Big Mac 2 points! When I was a vegetarian for a while I used to order Big Macs with no meat, and oddly they tasted the same. Also that Phil straight up admits he needs 6 sauce packets - me too.
You guys need to check out the new movie Super Size Me 2 called Heilige Huhn. It is shocking. That chicken you ate, with no growith hormones, grew to maturity in only 6 weeks!
I don't know any American grown ups who drink Fanta. Talking about the colors of pop, Mountain Dew in Germany is sold in fluorescent plastic bottles because the drink itself is the color of urine in Germany, whereas in America it is fluorescent, so much less like pee.
You didn't mention the Fishwich! I love those things so much but haven't had one ever in Germany cuz they are freaking expensive for some reason.
I miss McDonald's Shamrock Shakes in March. I find it odd that milkshakes are on the dessert menu in Germany.

Your comment about Fanta is right on the money! I've actually heard a person order a Fanta, and asked them if they were from Germany or had spent time there! They were German! It's always interesting how different fast food chains overseas do their own thing on the menu. Food is the bridge to learn a culinary culture in a specific place. That's what America has done globally - standardization, franchises, and inventing great things and make people happy all around the world. The brands in America are great at that and form memories to people worldwide. I think German snacks are so interesting to try. Thank you for sharing!

You should compare the american McDonald's "Apple Pie" with the european McDonald's "Apfeltasche".
I love the EU version way more.
Funfact: in Asia they've got a "Pinapple Pie" instead but made in the european "Apfeltasche" stile, which also tastes great.
About McD Fries vs. Burgerking Fires:
McD was better a long time ago. these days you hardly get them hot, fresh and crispy but medium warm instead and anything else but crispy.
Burger King on the otherhand improved greatly. their fries once were like McDs Fries today but improved to what McD Fries used to be. Hot and Crispy
Note: not hot as in spicey but actually hot in terms of being served with a high temperature.
Burger King Fries clearly win these days.
The meat was always better with Burger King, nothing beats the flavor of grilling over an open flame.
BUT the extras inside the Burger, like Sauces and lettuce, are much better at McD's... I wonder why though.
All in my personal oppinion ofcourse.
    Cheers
    Edit:
They don't serve the Big Tasty in Austria anymore... what a shame... it was the best standard priced burger.
But the Signature collection is great too... you should try the Signature Big Steakhouse though. It coms with a nice barbeque sauce and colsaw salat inside. Its just amazing in tast.

Some of these items are similar to items that McDonald's had in the past in the USA. We used to have a sandwich called the "Big n Tasty", which was similar to the "Big Tasty". We also had chicken tortilla wraps at one point.
Most of these items are pretty standard fast-food in the USA, though not all at McDonald's. Burger King has the Impossible Whopper (and they have had the BK Veggie for years). Wendy's has chicken wraps that are very similar. And as you noted, the Big Tasty is similar to what you would get a Five Guys.
I think McDonald's in Asia tends to have much more unusual items, like the McPepper in Hong Kong, or Teriyaki Chicken in Japan.

I love you guys! Especially your food videos. Now here are my 2 ct. The Hamburger Royal is the Quarterpounder. I'm not sure if they have the TS (tomato and Salad) version in the US. The chicken nuggets definitely aren't the same as in the US. Jamie Oliver went on a crusade against McDonalds US because their chicken nuggents were (or still are?) fat washed in ammonia whereas in the EU that is forbidden, so we may not have good chicken at McDonalds, but at least it is chicken. To be fair I have only been to one McDonalds in the US, because our entire travel group got sick from it. And in my memory it tasted horrible. To answer your pickle question: no pickle, but fries inside the cheeseburger. My answer to the fries question: Burgerking used to have very crispy fries, that I liked more than McDonalds, but they seem to have switched again, so I prefer McDonalds fries.
Finally why didn't you taste my favouritge Burger? The seasonal Big Rösti!

(Did you notice btw if they still do it?)Like real beer on tap, in a clear plastic cup. I never enjoyed my fast food more than having it with a real German beer. The astonishing thing also was that there were no issues with the patrons being rowdy or wasted, nothing of that sort. I guess Germans just handle their alcohol better than we do. Prost! Hey guys! Apologies for the long message. I write for a living. I'm Brad from South Africa, and my partner is Tom from Germany. I usually relate to almost everything Deana says, and Tom obviously relates to everything Phil says. Of course, we are always in fits of laughter when your videos are released because of the comparisons. Now, regarding McDonald's. I'm 39 years old, and Tom is 38. And, yes, I always order Fanta, as does Tom. Sometimes I change to Ginger Beer, as we have that option here. The South African Fanta Orange is also darker than in Germany, and it tastes like a mixture between Orange and Mandarin. We also have a choice of different Fanta flavours here, notably Fanta Grape and Fanta Pineapple, which is my absolute favourite. Tom, being German, sticks to his Fanta Orange - like you do Phil 😂. We have numerous items at McDonald's in South Africa that are not on the menu elsewhere in the world. Also, since we love chicken, you can exchange any beef patty for a chicken patty on the menu. Our notable burgers are a McBoerie Burger (Boerewors is a spicy South African pork-beef sausage which we usually throw on the barbeque), served with a sweet garlic mayo sauce and fried onions. We also have the McTasty here, and have had it for many years, but it doesn't contain bacon - it's huge and contains a crazy amount of tomato slices, gherkins, lettuce, onions and lots of sauce, but the beef patties taste different - better quality. We also have the McFeast Burger and a Grilled Foldover, both of which are available in either original or spicy (super spicy and fiery) and in either chicken or beef. The McFeast is a gargantuan burger with double patties, double cheese, sliced tomatoes, gherkins, lettuce, a savoury garlic mayonnaise and McBraai sauce (basically a sweet, smokey BBQ sauce - which is replaced with a fiery chilli sauce if you order the spicy version). The Grilled Foldover is like a large, crispy pita (similar to a Döner in fact), filled with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, grilled chicken (or beef) and garlic mayonnaise or spicy sauce. Oh, and we don't pay extra for sauces. They usually come with the chicken nuggets, and the more nuggets you order, the more dipping sauces they include. Ketchup (which we call "tomato sauce" here) is also always free, and you can ask for lots of it. If you ask nicely, they will even decant some extra garlic mayo or BigMac sauce for you. Thanks for the fantastic videos Deana and Phil. We always look forward to your posts!

For those esring McDonalds, you need to be aware that most countries have different ingredients in their McDonald foods. Aussie french fries at McDonalds contain potato, canola oil, dextrose and mineral salt, which makes it 4 ingredients. Also, Aussie McDonald fries are cooked in canola oil whereas US fries contain lard from beef meaning that French fries in the US are neither vegetarian nor vegan (according to the McDonald website). The US version contains Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients.in short, McDonald’s French fries in the US have 14 ingredients.
This is just a simple example, you might want to investigate what the US McDonalds puts into their chicken nuggets compared to other countries.
