i think the phrase you're looking for with the "foldy bit with the orb at the back" is something to the effect of "a prosthetic being rejected". It looks vile and awesome, glad you pointed it out

The whole 'unwilling donor' it's quite a convoluted way of saying that to create one of these they stitch a rival Master Moulder into it. 'It requires sacrifice - typically unwilling, as is the Skaven way - on the part of a Master Moulder'

As someone who doesn't collect Stormcast, I kinda love it. It looks like a boss you'd see in an RPG. Honestly I think it'd be cooler if he just didn't have legs, like he was a wraith that just hovered over the ground.

If I was a Skaven player I’d 100% get that 80’s Geiger horror monstrosity.
But since I’m a God-King simp first & foremaost I’m getting my boi Tornus at any cost!
Been waiting for his glorious arrival to model form since he first appeared in the 2016 God-Beast campaign and he Does Not disappoint! 🤩
Literally everything I love about Stormcast Eternals is in that model from the over-the-top form, magi-tech apparatus, angelic visage & badass demigod masks along with a super stylish high fantasy weapon.
He looks like a Final Fantasy or Diablo end game boss and is rocking it!
I might get one of each. Tornus in his amazing Hallowed Knights look with resplendent golden flame wings & twin-glaive while the runesword knight-Azyros gets the Hammers treatment but I go all in on blue Azyr flames(I get they didn’t want too much blue down there so went for a ethereal burn away corruption black flame effect but we don’t play an demigod army of Thors, wizard dragons & angels for subtlety ;) )

Personally I really like how the robes hang because it makes it feel like the robes are acting as the legs in a symbolic manner without actually chopping the mini in half. With the helmet it really makes it seem inhuman and more of an angelic statue or automata than a human being

The bit of the pose that's getting me is the downbeat wings combined with the flaring out legs make it look like he's swooping up, but the pillars behind him put him way too close to the ground to be doing that normally.
The direction of the model feels different from how the terrain around him is placed I think

  • @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954

The Brood Terror is an excellent mini, really capturing the insane, Frankenstein's Monster-esque shenanigans one would expect from a collaboration project between Clans Moulder and Skryre. It is just great, nightmare fuel stuff on every level.
With all that said, I think it is a bit harsh to dismiss Tornus the Redeemed/the Knight-Azyros as merely 'OK'. The arrangement of the legs might be a bit awkward, but conveying hovering flight in such a pose is not always easy, and from the front the extended tabard essentially obscures the legs anyway while still creating the impression of a lower body so that the figure feels balanced. The helmeted head looks suitably intimidating and inhuman, the arrangement of the wings works very well, and the twin bladed, rune inscribed polearm looks great, a suitably epic weapon for what amounts to a Sigmarite Archangel. Even the lamp looks like the divine artefact it is supposed to be rather than a mundane light source.
All in all, I would say we have two excellent models here, but each very different in style, offering something for those who appreciate the grotesque and gruesome and those who feel more in the mood for the luminous and angelic.

I also like the lore, give me a idea of a skaven moulder, who unfortnunly was moulded onto the brood terror, fortunly the rat has maintain his intelligence, Unfortanly it like trying to pilot a empty head brute who only ideas are "kill, eat, sleep and repeat" so we have this brute creature lumbering around for extra parts, with a skaven attach parasite screaming at the brute to "DO AS I SAY NOW-NOW!!!"

I'm really loving the look of these Skaven. I really want to use these as the basis of some cool 40k Chaos conversions. Mostly depends on the size to determine what it could be. • @kapitankapital6580
    @kapitankapital6580 Před 17 dny

One thing I'm curious about with fourth edition is now that the Great Horned Rat is a "proper" Chaos god whether he'll branch out from Skaven and do more to corrupt other mortals. Transformation body horror has always been a pretty integral part of the Skaven's lore; they were (arguably) originally created from humans turned into rats and their most powerful spell literally turns an enemy unit into clanrats. It makes sense to me to bring that to the fore now in AoS, and maybe even give it some representation in the model range...

I think the stormcast guy would look much better if rather than spread apart legs resting on a tactical rock it was just a huge sheep of smoke/clouds going straight to the ground a bit like if he was an elemental. Not only would it fix the static cloth but I would give him more of an angelic figure and remove the need for a tactical rock.
Also the horror need three legs, I don't know why I just need it to have a tiny vestigial leg.

The main thing killing the Knight-Azyros for me is the fire coming off the wings. Convincing fire has a lot of three-dimensionality to it, but this is very flat and artificial-looking, more like a shroud of fabric.
I know it's because GW's sculptors have to work around the limitations of their casting technology (since they refuse to move away from basic two-part moulds), but it looks fifteen years behind the rest of the model in quality to me.

Lead robes made to survive the lightning teleport and can retract on command to walk normally wouldn’t be weird for a faction that gets its weapons from dwarven god smiths & sentient storm clouds.

@Kirioth, I may be seeing things but I was hoping you'd notice that the fur-less portion towards the top of the Brood Terror appears to be a third donor, likely human skin. I see an eye, nose and mouth (questionably) next to the little exhaust pipe in the front view, with the side view showing similar holes stretched out towards the back where you can see a hint of brain visible beside the warp stone exhaust.
A truly disgusting/horrific design either way.

The Brood Terror seems to be based on a Rat-Ogre variant as the main body, and the (unwilling) donor Master Moulder grafted on the side.
With that robe, I'm kind of tempted to find or build an electric guitar axe for the Knight-Azyros and call him Adam.
Tornus is an interesting case. Not only is it kind of unclear what build is supposed to actually be Tornus and what's the generic one, but the character has before been described as a Knight-Venator, the ranged variant that could be built from the previous Knight-Azyros/Knight-Venator kit.

  • @KamenRiderGreed
    @KamenRiderGreed Před 17 dny

I have alot of thoughts on these models. But I'll keep it to key details and if you want to skip paragraph 3, I wouldn't blame you. I know how long I can go for with this stuff. First, I'll start by saying that I *LOVE* the new Brood Terror. I've always wnted more gross Moulder Mutant Monsters in Skaven and this is the exactly the kind of horrific abomination I always wanted in my life. Also, I agree with you about the fur. Having bits of fur and skin in random patches makes this creature look more unnatural, more like the violation of nature it's supposed to be. And I lile to think that the skin around the Warpstone engines on it's back just "naturally" healed and grew over the engines after enough time. Moulder are all about flesh shaping and regeneration, so to me, the skin just growing over the machinery in a gross parody of "natural healing" makes the most sense to me. But we also don't have full lore that might explain it further.
Second, I think you made some very valid criticisms of the new Knight-Azyros. Especially the bit about him tripping over his robe if he lands too quickly. I still like the model alot for how imposing it looks. As for the weapons, sure, they're getting a bit of a "grimdark" treatment, but I like how much more detailed they are compared to prior weapons. Just look at the old Stormstrike Glaives on Stormcast Protectors and compare them to the Glaive the Knight-Azyros is holding.
Finally, I'm giving this guy his own paragraph, because he deserves it. Tornus the Redeemed is amazing! With the way GW mentioned him in the article, stating, quote:
"The kit can also be used to represent Tornus the Redeemed"
That phrasing signifies to me that he unfortunately won't get bespoke rules since both the generic Knight-Azyros and Tornus don't use different parts, which is the hallmark of a named character. But the fact that GW acknowledged him at all is something I appreciate. *Especially* if you've read the books he's been in, following his journey as Torglug(which isn't that hard to say imo, it's Tor + Glug, theres 2 G's in it) to his eventual redemption after being reforged as a Stormcast. It's all in just a few of the Realmgate wars books on Audible and I'd highly reccomend them. The article gave you the cliff-notes version of the story. But it's those stories of the Hallowed Knights, Gardus Steel Soul, Lorrus Grymn(RIP buddy) and Tornus the Redeemed that made me fall in love with not just with Stormcast, but Age of Sigmar in general.

I'm not sure about a 150 pound after discount light, might be the best light but if it's not diffused and causes hard shadows it's probably not the best tool, but this comes to personal preference at this point. It's clearly originally design for reading, which is fine, but they should probably invest into something more specific to painting models, probably something can create two point soft light , or create a desk light box to deal with the shadow?... I think the main did is Tornus is supposed to have the twin-glaive while the Azyros has the classic runic sword.
But yeah it’s a Vandus situation again.
I don’t care tho, that glorious model IS Tornus the Redeemed first and foremost to me and going all in on it! ⚡️
(Venators sadly are probably replaced by Knight-Judicators for super holy mega archers. But that kinda does make me want to add a seraphim(sce mask with 6 wings attached) as a companion to the aetherwing for a Judicator proxy)

Tbh I'm much of the same. The terror to me feels more like "just another Moulder Monster", where the Knight-Azyros is very specifically exploring a new aesthetic for the army as an "utterly holy crusader"

AoS miniatures are awesome... until you gotta pack them up and drive across town.
Also I never will get what it is about Skaven that gets everyone going all poggers. I don't hate them, but I don't see the big deal. In the thirty years that I've been aware of Warhammer, not a single person has ever told me or shown me anything about them that seems to justify the absurd fascination people have.
And I have to admit my bias: I experienced Skaven playing Mordheim on tabletop, so it takes an effort for me to even listen to anyone talk about them without rolling my eyes. If you spent multiple games just waiting for the game to end because some neckbeard's "clever tactic" was basically "swarming the board with disposable rat dudes and tarpitting everyone for an entire game"- you'd probably feel the same way. And these neckbeards say this is 'fun'.
If you haven't experienced this, I assure you- it's not fun. I don't mean 'it's hard', I mean it's not fun to not do anything for the entire game- and it's even more pathetic when you don't want to stand at the table for an hour doing nothing so you concede and the guy starts crying because you won't "just play it out with him". He'll cry harder when someone makes a house rule to ensure other players can also have "fun" when they play against him- but then he'll quit and leave.

That rat thing is typical GW over design. Just cram everything they can onto every model. Fail.
Not much they can do though. They have no chance of attracting any talented modelers these days with their minimum wage jobs.
Anyone with an iota of talent can make 10x as much money, making models on a Patreon.
So this is all GW can do, push out these built by committee models.

The problem with Tornus is his terrible "redemption" story. As if stormcast weren't antithetical enough to the grimdark warhammer universes, now you can get out from under Chaos's thumb scot-free. And they made an entire model to put an exclamation mark on this point. Ugh...

    • @destructivepanda5226
      @destructivepanda5226 Před 17 dny +2

U can’t get out “scot free” it was only due to being hit directly with Ghal Muraz that he was redeemed. It’s definitely okay that the weapon that is warhammers namesake can do that, especially if the emperors sword in 40K can perma-kill daemons
Also how are Stormcast antithetical?? Cause they are colored gold??? Old World is back go be negative there

    • @ce4879

      AoS is NobleDark.
Stormcast can redeem those forces into chaos to save their families,
the dark gods can be weakened and captured like Slaanesh,
areas corrupted by chaos can be purified by the faithful chanting(and at time flagellating themselves so their holy blood can destroy chaos),
being faithful enough causes little Order familiars called Gargoylians to manifest that attack chaos daemons on sight
There’s space fleets of Star lizards & dinos that regularly mess up chaos’ plans and redirect their portals to the blender dimension instead of a village to slaughter.
That’s part of what makes the AoS setting so fun is that it’s it all gloom and doom. You got 40k & Old World for grimdark nihilism.
