    Finally. a post that says it like it is. I've spent a lot of time sitting and watching a listening. I've called many in because I listened the sounds, cadence and when the call is used. I did the same with turkeys. learned those little whines and clucks that bring the Toms in close.

      That's just it! Not many realize the sounds Wood Ducks actually make without getting close enough to hear them, everyone associates the loud whistle they make and assume they can just rip multiple calls like that in the matter of seconds and then flocks will be dumping from the heavens. More often than not I have noticed there is usually only 1 duck out of a flock that will make a loud whistle when on the water, it's good for getting long range attention because the sound travels very far but when they're in tight you gotta change things up!

      @@LakesnWoodsOutdoors I call wood ducks already but you narrowed down the vocabulary and made it a routine. I was just making random noise and they'd land nearby and swim right to the call. They ain't too bright if you're well hidden and can control the dog.
      Pea brain ducks. Oh..wood duck decoys in flooded green timber works and I've had locals hunt with me that proclaimed "we gotta get us some wood duck decoys". 😉

    It’s very rare that ya can call woodies to you, but it has happened for me every now and then. I’ve had some circle back to me and pass by in range after calling to them flying at a distance. They will swim to you if sittung in water nearby a lot of times too.

    • @LakesnWoodsOutdoors
      @LakesnWoodsOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Yeah many times they'll land and swim in or just land without calling but I have found my methods to work very good!

    Can I do this with a whistle call?

    • @LakesnWoodsOutdoors
      @LakesnWoodsOutdoors  Před 7 měsíci

      By whistle call you mean a Widgeon/Teal/Pintail call? If so you can possibly manipulate the call into make the right tone, but I find the whistles to be waaaay too high pitch

    Good stuff. I captured some wood ducks sounds a close range recently and posted them in this video: czcams.com/video/HKy0zU9bf1I/video.html
    Note that I edited out some of the silence between calling events. If you watch you will see the image jump slightly where I edited and the back ground noise fluctuates as well. There was probably 30+ seconds in each of those breaks.

    I find it hard to find wood duck. I don't usually see them around Mallards or geese

    • @LakesnWoodsOutdoors
      @LakesnWoodsOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Usually they will hang out in very weedy/lily pad & tree filled soggy bottom swamps, they do share similar ponds with mallards but won't be flocked together very often.
