Great review, going to take a look at one tomorrow and decide between that and the ionic 5. I do however think that all EV’s are overpriced and only work for me as a company car. I don’t think I’d be considering an EV as a personal car just yet.
I test drove pretty much everything on the EV market, before deciding on EV6. But man, delivery times are nasty. I still have 3 months of waiting.....possibly even more, depending on production capacity and materials. It has been a *really* long winter in my temporary 2002 Suzuki Swift :-D
I ordered 14th Feb with delivery promised in Sept. (UK) Had a call from the dealer 10th March saying it would arrive next day! I guess I must have struck lucky with a cancellation on the identical spec. Now I just have to find the money 6months earlier!
Had a test drive, very comfortable, quiet and smooth. Unfortunately the cost of installing a home charger put me off this or any other EV. Have an Instavolt charging point nearby which is rarely used but the cost is about the same per mile as petrol or diesel.
I think you'd have a fair chance of getting it for a bit less than Richard suggests, depending on how fancy you want your charger to be. Also worth being aware that the grant is going at the end of March, so it's going to get quite a lot more expensive.
If you get onto a cheaper overnight tariff (I pay 6p/kw midnight to 5am) then the cost of the wall box will be covered in few months and you'll start saving a fortune. 1000miles for is £20 @ 3 miles per kw. You have to get the wall box and then at 6p/kw vs public chargers at 30 or 40p/kw, it all makes massive financial sense
The new Sportage took 2022 here in Australia. The EV6 hasn’t been delivered yet. It’s sold out until 2025 already! I drive a 2017 Sportage GT AWD and love it. My next car will be an EV and it will be a Kia- probably the EV6. Gorgeous car!
Thanks for yet another brilliant review! It would be really interesting if you could compare buying a new EV6 or a used Jaguar iPace. Which would be better?
In reality, a point to consider might be to understand who makes the more reliable cars, offered with the longest warranty? Jaguar or Kia? Then you may be closer to having your answer.....
@@Brian-om2hh I owned 2 fault free Jaguars, while my wife's Kia was very unreliable. Based solely on reliability, my experience would point to the jag.
Interesting in the UK they don't include all safety features in all trim levels. My classic Ioniq 28 in Australia has all the same safety features as the trim level above mine, only 2 trim levels here for my car. Really the lowest & highest trim levels should have exactly the same safety features in my opinion. It is a good car but unfortunately as you mentioned and I've been able to confirm the Ioniq 5 which is similar my head rubbed the roof of the car front and the back I had to sit slightly forward but was still touching roof so although I love the car won't be able to get it looking like new facelift eNiro may be my next EV.

good summary of a good car. looks cheeky in black! But would not it be better if you wrote this year's car 2021? there may be more and better cars throughout 2022 that have just started ...
1:08 that leg room is a downside in my book. Especially if seats don't slide. It means that it eats up a boot space for no good reason - or just makes a car longer so that you could have an empty space in front of your knees. Yes, you can extend your legs a little, but how often do you need that in an electric car (and you can also do that if the front seat is raised up a bit).
Effective range? Well let's assume you never want to risk getting below 10%. So that essentially means you have a range of 328 - 33 miles or 295 miles. However, if you're on a cross country and need to recharge, you'll likely want to charge to only the 80% mark as charging slows down after that point. So that means after your supercharger experience you'll be looking at 262 miles max. So your useful range, after your first recharge, drops to 229 miles (262 - 33). Now, you may think that's adequate and for many people I'm sure it is. But for me that isn't anywhere near sufficient as I live in Phoenix, Arizona. For a weekend trip to Las Vegas, or the Grand Canyon or Telluride... well in an EV that's going to be an extremely painful journey. And of course all of this assumes you get the published range (which is extremely unlikely). Oh, and I'm not sure if Kia is offering free electricity in the USA but if not, the average cost of supercharger outlets here in Arizona is around 43c to 53c per kwHr. What does that mean in real world terms? Well, in Arizona, if you have to pay to use a supercharger, you will be paying approximately twice the cost of regular gas (petrol) at the pump for the same distance. Or, put another way, if you have to use a pay supercharger you are going to be super ripped-off in terms of cost-per-mile. Of course all of this assumes you can find a supercharger that is close to your destination. In my case the nearest supercharger to my second home outside of Flagstaff, Arizona? Nearly 45 miles. Hardly convenient. If you live in town and can afford a second vehicle, this Kia makes perfect sense. But if you can't afford a second vehicle? Well that's why many of us prefer PHEV vehicles. So I'll stick with my Rav4 Prime... for now.
If you have the air conditioning on, in Arizona, and driving uphill? The range number will take a nosedive. And if you run out of battery, your car needs to be towed. Not just a simple gas can, brought to you by a friend.
@@georgedowns4034 Clearly I'm saying by listing it at £47k, for what is a Hyundai mass produced good of inherent limited life span, people are financially being taken for a long ride George. Clear enough?
What’s interesting is no one mentions the disproportionately high number of very unhappy owners who have endured winter with no functioning heater blamed first on software issues and then on inverter issues…with a fix being held up by lack of spares supply. Neither does it mention the various other recalls, the constantly shifting delivery dates and the number of unhappy owners rejecting their cars or cancelling orders. I was going to order but looked elsewhere. I’ve never seen so many unhappy owners although the fan boys seem to brush the heating issue and recalls to one side.
Where's the evidence base for this assertion of a disproportionately high number of very unhappy owners? Looking at forums where people share issues and problems isn't really a statistically sound way of assessing their incidence. Yes, some early EV6s (including mine) had infuriating heating issues, now resolved in my case. But then, a glance at other EV forums will show that Taycans and e-Tron GTs have had heating problems, Polestar 2s and ID3s have had software problems, and, incredibly, even Model 3s have been known to have the occasional fault. Set against this is the superb design and build quality of the EV6, its outstanding ride/handling balance, and advanced 800V architecture. I'm no fan boy - that's a Tesla thing - but I fully understand why What Car made this beautiful-looking car their COTY - and I'm sorry you'll be missing out.
There’s an abundance of evidence out there even accounting for the polarised views and comments that forums attract. My local dealer had 2 demo vehicles - 1 couldn’t be used because the heating doesn’t work (and that was this week). It’s natural that some owners want to defend their purchase but just look at the forums - they’re awash with unhappy owners.
The Got some major issues with coldgating in wintertimes. The heatpump, dies not designate to heat the battery, when you charge in wintertimes, if the climate control is on. Thats an issue related to software proberly. But never the less it is a huge Challenge for consumers, when they expect charging times between 18-30 min, but reallity it’s more like 1 hour atleast, when you charge at an ionity 350 kw charger.
Good review. But had to stop and laugh when I came across your review and your channel name of What Car. I'm in the USA and have been calling around the Kia dealers. They all said it will be impossible to get the EV6. And if you do get someone who wants to talk price, I am getting a fishing quote of $20K over MSRP. Contacted Kia corporate and was told all dealers are independently owned and gets to set their own price. I had also asked whether I can order one from the factory. Nope, they don't do that. I own a Tesla but didn't want to buy a 2nd one due to Tesla lack of post sales repair/support. I can order a VW, Ford and a few others online. I won't be buying a Kia.
Hope this headlight style makes it to the U.S. even if it's only on the GT... idk why all the NA ones seem to have a reflector type LED instead of the projector type seen here...
@@amperformance7998 yeah I heard that too. Sounds like Kia just barely missed the mark on that. Shame. But hopefully they are plug & play. Or they allow dealers to software update them into compatibility for the first year models that were sold already, like mine. I imagine next year they're putting those in. I don't see why they wouldn't. Would make production even more streamline since they wouldn't need to nerf the car just for our market.
Why do you guys always underestimate korean cars in terms of range, you did the same with the e-niro yet many people who own them get way more range than what you've claimed or even kia claims & with this EV6 I'm sure it will over deliver in range than claimed.
Why would you buy a Model Y for 10000$ more? Less quality, less warranties, more noisy, no physical buttons, no HUD, no 360 camera, etc etc. Makes no sense

The EV6 is a nice looking car but here is NZ it is so overpriced at $77,990 for the base model which doesn't have very many features at all not even front park sensors which is ridiculous. I can buy the Tesla Model 3 for $74,900 and it has so many more features with driver profiles which remember each drivers settings, heated steering wheel as well as heated seats, electric boot, Sentry mode to name just a few and more importantly it gets regular over the air updates that keep your car up to date and always feeling like a new car with getting new features. Sorry Kia but you are asking way too much for your EV6 and to get the model with comparable features to the Tesla I would have to spend over $111,000!
If a long winter blackout occurs in a land of electric cars most of the population will perish in the freezing cold. The gas powered car that would provide cabin heat for many days will not be there. The electric car could only supply heat for a short time and would quickly discharge its battery making a trip to a shelter impossible.
Be careful guy, after youtube reviews i bought one, but this car have issues of heating in car everytime and extreme slow charging in winter i-e 70kwh.

Why should a Tesla cost more than Kia and Hyundai if it feels less solid and less refined? Granted, it has tech and power and good handling. But the basics, the build, ride quality and NVH aren't on the same level as Kia and Hyundai. Why not make Tesla cheaper?
I drove the ev6 and was very impressed but it was just the rwd version. I also drove the ioniq5 rwd and dismissed it. I finally drove the model 3 LR and there was no comparison. The Tesla was just so nibble and the deal breaker was the price and availability of the LR over the dual motor ev6 plus the super charger network.

Great review, going to take a look at one tomorrow and decide between that and the ionic 5. I do however think that all EV’s are overpriced and only work for me as a company car. I don’t think I’d be considering an EV as a personal car just yet.
Agreed overpriced as usual, always have and always will!
Was a Ionic parked new to EV 6 near us and it Hyundai looked dull.
Why not mention the brilliant augmented HUD on the GT Line S much better than my kona!
I ordered my Australian market EV6 last weekend and was quoted 18 months. Orders today are looking at 3 years.
With a grant, it’ll be around £750.
I think you'd have a fair chance of getting it for a bit less than Richard suggests, depending on how fancy you want your charger to be. Also worth being aware that the grant is going at the end of March, so it's going to get quite a lot more expensive.
@@johnmckay1423 Yeah I was going by the cost of installing a Hypervolt charger.
How much could it cost to have a 230 volt 50-amp recepticle in the garage?

I drive a 2017 Sportage GT AWD and love it. My next car will be an EV and it will be a Kia- probably the EV6. Gorgeous car!
For range scarcity solar roof is great option to include in the Evs

Great review
Thanks for yet another brilliant review! It would be really interesting if you could compare buying a new EV6 or a used Jaguar iPace. Which would be better?
No contest, one's a used Jag
In reality, a point to consider might be to understand who makes the more reliable cars, offered with the longest warranty? Jaguar or Kia? Then you may be closer to having your answer.....
@@Brian-om2hh I owned 2 fault free Jaguars, while my wife's Kia was very unreliable. Based solely on reliability, my experience would point to the jag.
The best EV on the market by far, Tesla build quality sucks, and the EV6 GT with 577 hp, will be quicker than the Model Y performance.
Even after 10 years of building EVs , Tesla build quality STILL sucks. And Full Self Driving is years late. Pretty much a joke at this point.
Personally I would sacrifice some interior space for a slightly smaller car. Cars are becoming ridiculously big.
Next gen or upgrade should be better and less expensive, as should all new EVs that are starting to permeant the market. SHOULD be.
Interesting - definitely on the short-list for my next car.
Many customers waiting for delivery of EV6 due to shortage of production . Also union is demanding job security without restructuring which I do think that we don't need union.
How do you think it compares to Toyota bzx4?
good summary of a good car. looks cheeky in black! But would not it be better if you wrote this year's car 2021? there may be more and better cars throughout 2022 that have just started ...
Great or not, it sure is great-looking.
What is the total charge ie milage and what is the price in re?
Nice looking, but can't see £47k here. What's the profit on these?
I can- quality, tech, unique features & desgin all scream quality to me
Nothing of quality would have to scream George.
@@Carl-yu6uw what u trying to say? If u think this is not quality then u need new eyes asap
So a Tesla model 3 is also expensive to you ?
Wow my 2017 200 series landcruiser must be futuristic because it comes standard with a 240 volt power outlet inside the car, to charge my laptop top.
The Tesla Model Y is a better comparison to this vehicle.
Model Y is much more expensive, at least in USA. Also Model Y has long waiting list, Kia EVs can be purchased right away.
Excellent revue
‘A handy feature is that you can boil a kettle…’
Nope; struggling to remember when that was last a thing.
Why is he comparing this car to the model 3? This car has the same dimensions as a Ioniq 5 and that is probably fairer to compare this to a model Y.
Priced like a 3 and not the Y, at least where I live.

I know that matrix style LED headlights were only recently approved for use in the US. That may be why.

Just fully charged my Ev6 440 is all the full charge took ...where is the 528 it's sopposed to be doing.....a case of false advertising in my opinion
If a long winter blackout occurs in a land of electric cars most of the population will
perish in the freezing cold. The gas powered car that would provide cabin heat for
many days will not be there. The electric car could only supply heat for a short time
and would quickly discharge its battery making a trip to a shelter impossible.
