He didn't KNOW what the BIBLE was.

In the Netherlands, some people don't even know what the Bible is. That is why we as Christians must bring out the Bible. Everyone must hear the gospel. It is not the will of God that no one should perish, but that all should come to Jesus. And be saved by him. So don't be afraid but be obedient.

Brother do not use verses with such people saying things like He shows Himself "in the person of Jesus", or "we all fall short of the glory of God" or "hell". Also you should have asked for an email or his or address, so you can at least send him the Gospel of John in His language (making sure what it is). And tell him to simply say when he is alone: "Jesus Christ who are you, please reveal yourself to me."
The Bible is not the Word of God like the devil deceived the church to believe; he wanted to make The Son/Word of the Father from what He is, to a Book' this is a form of idolatry.
We are clearly told that the Word of God is 1) the Son of God, and what He directly speaks to someone, not what is written in the Bible. The Bible contains the will of God, written as the writers were inspired. God did not write the Bible, His prophets and apostles did in their own way, many times using their memory to report events. These are basic facts you need to know before evangelizing.
