- We've arrived in Singapore and picked up a little motorbike for our three day stay here. Monika's not impressed.
Our first impressions of Singapore and the eye opening cost of living and owning a vehicle here.

Avenger and Pulsar are from Indian manufacturer named Bajaj. They also have 49% stake in KTM . Pulsar is a series of motorcycles, that comes in different cc. It’s very popular in India.
Thank you- you’ve educated me here!🙂🇮🇳
Also, Bajaj has tied up with Triumph in India and will release new motorcycles very soon.
49% not in KTM, in join venture firm.
Lousy Bajaj bikes
@@ericpeterson6822 are you kidding Bajaj developed some brilliant 200 and 375 cc engines and they are both used in KTM and Bajaj motorcycles.
I'm from Singapore, and it's really common for us bikers here to put a lot of boxes on our bikes, particularly the top box, as they're often our daily drivers and you either own a bike or a car, rarely both (It's expensive...). I doubt they were going on tour, likely just went to work :)
Ahhhh fascinating, thank you for sharing this🙂
I should live in Singapore Here in the United States and I use my dual sport kawasaki klx 300 with a huge top box for errands-luv it!
Fun video love “traveling”with you and Monica
Cheers mate
USA
@@allans7281 don’t. Your KLX300 cost triple the amount here in Singapore. 😅
Same situation at Johor Malaysia
Exactly 💯
You and Monika are truly brave travelers. You are also creating some superb memories and when you get senior citizen you will marvel at what you did...guaranteed.
Thanks so much, we’re gigantically enjoying it!🙂
LOL When Monika said is this our bike
It broke my heart!😆
Such a treat to see Monika's pretty smile (12:30). Of the places I've been for work, Singapore is one I would love to visit again. Such happy memories of the Botanic Gardens and the food markets. A unique place in the world; the light show at Gardens of the Bay is something I'll never forget. And all the green scape on the buildings! Thank you for this reminder of a very special place.
Thank you Freddie for making me feel slightly better about my insistent checking, double then triple checking of every booking I make to travel (and all again on the day of travel 😂)...your story in Huggs Coffee (great coffee shop name, by the way!) has in my mind justified my obsession with checking I have everything right and in order.
I also heard Monika's mind thinking "where is that travel insurance form?" as she filmed you test riding the little Yam for the first time, that little laugh she gave was not a laugh of confidence! 🤣
🤣🤣this is so true! I genuinely don’t even want to check the travel insurance because I’m almost certain I’ve entered some personal info incorrectly. I’ve just had to become numb to it, otherwise it’s far too stressful!
Big thanks again to Monika and Freddie to “Teleporting” us to another part of the 🌍 on a sunday morning in Düsseldorf 😉
Hi, thanks for your reply. I’m a bit embarrassed to not knowing how to „hit someone up“
(wouldn’t want to 😔 hurt anyone)
Hi! Local here. Really enjoyed your video! Btw, after the first 10 years, actually there are 3 options. The 3rd one is that you can buy another 'COE' for 5 years instead, for roughly half the cost of full 10 years COE. But the downside is that after the 15th year, you have to scrap or car/bike. But if you go for the 10 years, you can keep on renewing for 10-20 or for how many more decades you want. But if im not wrong, after the 30th year, you have to convert you car/bike to a classic scheme, the ones with the yellow/red registration plate. Like the vespa shown earlier in your vid.
Thanks for the Singapore video Freddie. Have been there a few times and really enjoyed the experience and especially the food. What impressed me most was how well organized and clean the place is. Despite the fact of very expensive vehicle ownership, it is a place I think I could enjoy living for an extended period. Law and order is very obvious. Cheers, Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦
The reason why you noticed a lot of Pulsars is because the workshop you walked past (universal motors) is the sole distributor for Bajaj motorcycles in Singapore! That's why almost all Pulsars go there for their servicing.
Freddie you are a consummate raconteur - thank you both for your splendid productions- it must be hard work maintain the impressive production levels for such a prodigious output.
Loving it Freddie. Have the best time. Looking forward to seeing more. Ride safe.
You can learn at lot over a cup of coffee, well done Freddie and Monica.
Looking forward to seeing Singapore.
Enjoying your videos very much, looking forward to the continuing adventure.
Thank you Andrew!🙂
It is awesome to see you guys in Singapore. Welcome to my beloved country. A lot of things here will both shock and amaze people. I hope you guys enjoy your time here! I wish I could have bumped into you and said hi and maybe show you guys around a bit haha
Thank you so much, I’m delighted to be here!🙂🇸🇬
@@FreddieDobbs Hey mate may i know where was/is the hotel u stayed in? Im Singaporean but have to relocate for a week as my house is being renovated !
If you're going to Indonesia, you'd be crazy if you went to Bali and not Southern Lombok to ride bikes. The coastal road is outrageously stunning.
I think we’ll visit Lombok too- we’ve been before and it felt like Bali 30 years ago!😍
@@NakaNakaDerkaDerka chances of being robbed? Bali is no more likely for that than anywhere else. I'd feel much more in danger of being robbed in UK than anywhere in SE Asia
@@FreddieDobbs I can't wait to see the videos. The roads along the southern coast are jaw dropping 😁👌
Nice one. I was in Singapore and Malaysia last month. I visited the Ducati dealer in Penang and I had a nice chat with one of the sales guys standing by a V4 Panigale. I said that it must be some kind of hell riding such a hot bike in that steaming heat. He didn't disagree!
7:40 I think the umbrella is to reduce glare from the sun so you can see what's on the screen.
I learnt this one hour after filming after seeing the riders protecting their phones☀️ Makes perfect sense now!
@@FreddieDobbs
Ya especially for food delivery workers.
Their phone has to be constantly on and charged..
I love your passion for bikes! Very infectious!
What a coincidence. I am in Singapore now for business trip as I watch this. So we are actually in Singapore at the same time. Glad to see you on our side of the world. Cheers!
Hey! Nice ride videos on Singapore! Glad you had a great time here. Given me different perspectives, especially on the tourist point of view on this small island. Haha!
Glad you did this video in Singapore !
WOW!!..Singapore sure has changed since the 80's...LOL..we took double decker buses everywhere..the upper deck didnt have a roof...was the best way to sight see ever at that time..there were lots of European tourists there on holiday also....sounds like Monika needs to book everything from now on...LOL...excellent video...
The locals we spoke to say that it changes so quickly here, you can notice the changes year by year! Monika is now the sole booker of everything😆
those double decker buses without a roof aren't public transport. They're for tourists
Just came back from Singapore what a amazing place
Great video, love that old Honda CX500, great to be cruising the streets like a local
Great video. I love motorcycles and I really want to go to Singapore. So perfect video!
Welcome to Singapore, hope you have fun here!
I used to work in Sun Tech City in 2000, but I am back in the states now. Such fond memories of the friendly people, the DELICIOUS foods, the smells of the street food, the warm embrace of the morning heat, the architecture alongside the quay….loved every minute. Lots to do.
Awesome video and awesome content can’t wait for the next video Thank’s Freddie and Monika
Thanks Jason🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hello and welcome to Singapore!
Enjoy your stay!
Thanks Daniel!
Great work Freddie! Always enjoy your content.
nice video, would like to see more videos of the neighborhood areas. cheers!
Before Subic Bay was closed, the Squadron I was in did a detachment to Singapore and Malaysia. Noticed all the Scooters, couldn't wait to get back to Subic get on my Harley Davidson. Thank you for this video, brought back memories.
Great vlog Freddie and Monika! Great to see you both exploring the Far East. Yes and that stomach churning feeling when you realise you have messed up on the booking. I’ts not just me then.
It’s a dreadful feeling- I had to just become numb to it😆 Bali tomorrow morning!✈️
Morning to you both. Been waiting for my Sunday morning treat ! 🏴
Good morning Mike🙂 Have a good’n!🏴
"....and the last time" yeap, no more bookings from you Mr. Freddie. Thanks for sharing this awesome trip! 👍👍
Learn so much from you about nice plalces in the world. I ḿ not a traveller myself but enjoy yr videos very much. Thanks!
That’s very kind of you to say so, thank you!🙂
Excellent video- so interesting to a parochial Suffolk boy! Have a safe trip
Welcome to singapore ! Have Been ur channel follower since the beginning! ❤
Hi Freddie! Hope you had a great time cruising around my country - Idk if you remembered but I commented on your IG post about my bike Mutt here in SG (defo made my day when you replied mate 🙏🏽)! Anyways always love your bike vids! Who knows we get to cruise around SG with the Mutt crew the next time you’re back 🎉 safe rides bud.
Great video!
I feel your pain reg the international licence, i rushed through my Bike test in England so i could ride overseas but not once in asia, vietnam, indonesia, bali did i get asked for it! But its always good to have incase you do. Great video though, glad to see you escaping Englands freezing cold weather!
Oh Freddie you are a tonic, brilliant video and some really interesting insights into cars and motorbiles was very interesting. Yep I think we can all agree leave the booking to Monika, Monika you have the patience of a saint. Thanks guys!
Thanks Stuart!🙂 The flight to Bali is tomorrow and Indonesia’s atrocious travel app doesn’t work and we have no onward flights, so I’ll be extremely nervous at the airport!
Everywhere we travel around the world, for biking or for the family, I have never seen someone in the group or even myself making some mistake at one point or another. I have also seen that people are patient when they notice an anxious tourist. We are only human. The government and tourist agencies should be absolutely empathetic towards such situations/people.
The hotel staff were incredibly kind and probably saved me £100s!🙂
Singapore is awesome Freddie...enjoy!!
Thanks Derek!🙂
I can tell you dont ride a motorbike regularly. But small engine bikes are best to gain experience. Slow speed control is key . I've subscribed I've found this
Hey Freddie! Whenever you're in Singapore and keen to do a ride around town or even to nice places, do give me a heads up! The bike culture is very different here from many countries due to the ridiculous price of vehicle ownership. Most of us commute on a 2B moped (up to 200cc bikes) as we have to go thru licensing for 3 years before we can ride something like the GS! Would love to show you around the bike culture of SG!
Hi guys, it's great to see you in Singapore. I was there about 20 years ago, so I expect things have changed since then. You must go for a "Singapore Sling" in Raffels Hotel before you leave.
Thanks for this Phil- I’ll check this on google now🙂
Not much to be honest - there's some new areas that have been built and some new malls but it hasn't changed that much
Another top video. Looks to be a great place for a few days stop over, if you've not stopped off at Hong Kong before on a long haul I'd heartily recommend it fascinating place so much to see in such a small place.
It's so easy to book wrong dates, I have just had to re-book a nights accommodation for the Wheels and Waves trip in June as we're traveling down to Biarritz over 3 days I'd booked the 1st night and the 3rd night but totally forgot the middle night. Luckily I managed to find somewhere on the route so all good in the end.
I’m glad I’m not alone in booking issues!😆
I’m curious about HK too- I I can imagine it being like Singapore🙂👌🏻
Welcome to Singapore, Weekday the traffic will be busier, ride safe!
Thank you🙂
good morning. i was just following your trips in europe using your triumph. and wahlah, here you are in singapoor
really cool video! this is the first video i saw on your youtube channel. enjoy your ride in singapore mate! btw im malaysian, i reckon u to try and rent motorcycle in malaysia and see the atmosphere of malaysia while riding a motorcycle
11:27 Those red/yellow plates are special vintage vehicle registrations. You only pay 10% of those expensive extra costs, but you can only use said vehicle for 45 days a year.
Missing home...SG...hope u guys enjoyed it, roads are empty on weekdays coz we are all busy punching our keyboards during day time :p
Haha, I've done exactly the same thing Freddy. I was on a two day business trip in Hong Kong and when I rocked up at the airport to depart, the check in staff told me my booking was in a month's time! The airline managed to help me out, but it was pretty embarrassing because I had done the booking myself.😅
It’s an awful feeling, made worse by the fact there’s no one else to put the blame on!😆
Pulser and Avenger r of Bazaz. One of top Indian company. They manufacture KTM bikes. It will soon manufacture Triumph sub 300cc bikes.
I’ve literally just learnt this yesterday- I had no idea about this company before. Thanks for the heads up🙂🙌🏻
Cars are crazy prices in Singapore but the public transport is very good (and spotlessly clean). The certificate to get into Singapore must be a relatively new thing - I was there in Oct 2019 and it wasn't required.
If you're referring to the COE , its been around for decades. And yes, for context, the public transport is significantly effevtive, however, it isnt favoured for day to day necessary life for working people.
The overcrowding and uncomfortable journey and delays that are constantly caused by rush hour is physically draining. Not to mention, most business districts are very, very far away from people's homes, so you can easily spend 2 or 3 hours travelling per day, in a country that's barely 60km wide.
@@aries666dc this sounds like some form of hell 😳. And I thought London is bad.
@@AsmodeusT trust me, the breakdowns and delays are nothing compared to london. Singaporeans are just spoilt.
@@albertlwj yeah mate, you got that right. Singaporeans should ride in rush hour traffic in Mumbai. They'll know what rush hour really means😂.
@@MrJustforkicks Singaporeans complain about how everything is expensive, but have no qualms spending 2-3k on a new phone 2-3 times a year or 10k on a bag
Thanks you two.
welcome to SG .. ride safe .
Oh man, so cool to see you here! Don't worry; jaywalking is ok :) the reputation of Singapore is much stricter than reality haha! BTW Mutt from Birmingham is picking up in Singapore. I used to have 125 Hilts before switching to Ducati Scrambler 400cc after upgrading my license to 2A:)
Ahhh thank you Max- I didn’t want to risk breaking any rules here, but I was curious as to the reality! Great choice on the Duc- off the scale cool bike🙂🔥
😂that small lane is ok, this rule is more applicable for busy 3 lane junctions and expressways or places where underpasses, overhead bridges and traffic lights are visibly nearby
fyi jaywalking is not ok , just that you have not been caught by the traffic police , lol dont spread false info
@@sdqsdq6274 yes, on paper jay walking is illegal every but seriously even if you were to cross this particular lane and right in front of police and TP they are not going to do anything, because it’s not worth their time in the first place. If that is the case, I wonder how you get to your car in open air carpark, that one also called jaywalking, as you can say that one will kena saman.
The shop next door to where you rented your bike (where the cb500 and zx7r were) is where i regularly go to service my Moto Guzzi V85TT!Hope you had a pleasant stay in Singapore!
Welcome to Singapore. The place you went is one of the biggest motorcycle shopping area in Singapore. I bought my 2018 Suzuki VStrom DL1000XT overthere too. Most of the shops there are owned by Yew Heng Motorsports.
Welcome to Singapore!
My first bike was a brand new YBR125 which was a great learner. Leave the admin to Monica lol, Cheers Freddie and Monica
Oh dear where would you be without Monika Freddie 😁 It is interesting to see the difference in how each country tackles motoring and whether they see congestion or pollution as the main problem. I am curious to know, having heard Singapore tackle pollution by planting trees and greenery in the city centre to clean the air and cool things down? Another great travelogue, safe riding both of you.
It’s true; trees and greenery have been planted everywhere and the whole country feels incredibly free from pollution. It does all seem to work extremely well.
What an adventure, good for you.
welcome to singapore!
From one of your Singaporean subscribers, welcome to Singapore!
Prices of vehicles here are always a shocker for foreigners, and it's a constant grumble for us locals.
I'm not a proponent of the tax system, but it keeps the vehicle population in check (controls congestion, which plaques many Asian cities) and encourages use of public transport, which the government has invested heavily in.
Anyways, hope you enjoy your time here on the sunny island state!
Interesting about reduction in traffic reasons feels tome exactly what’s happening in uk for less well off except zero rubbish public transport
Thank you so much, I’m delighted to be here 🙂🇸🇬
Really great to hear from a local about vehicle ownership, thank you.
it actually doesn't do a proper job of keeping vehicle population in check, because all it means is that the rich own more cars than they need.
I have applied for motorcycle mechanic job in Singapore very exited to move on that's why i am seeing this vedio❤
dude, welcomed to singapore. Having riden so many bikes, you do look funny on that. I learned riding with that bike lol
The Honda cx500 (twin tub) used to be fairly common and favoured by dispatch riders back in the day. Honda copying guzzi in engine layout. Great video by you two as always.
It’s strange to think of this Honda as a simple dispatch vehicle😳
Great choice 👌
Great video 👍 I’m amazed that the road signs and the shops signage is in English…wasn’t expecting that 😂 stay safe you two 👍🇬🇧
It’s totally seamless here Alan, and they drive on the left too!🇬🇧
@@FreddieDobbs yet another place on my bucket list to visit…thanks 👍
Now you're getting the idea, we're part of the Commonwealth of Nations.. ..and it's a good thing. 🙂
The CX500 is on a 'classic vehicle' red/yellow plate. Its usually reserved for vintage collector vehicle and according to regulation, they can only run X amount of days per year.
I am currently riding an italian Vespa PX200E machine and OH BOYYYYYY THE BEST DECISION EVERRRRR !!!!
I love Vespas and forever will be with me for as long as I breathe
italian beauty vespas are such immaculate machine
Looks a good place to be, much better than Dubai. I hired a Vespa PX200 in Rhodes, great scooter. 2 stroke engine with handlebar gear change. News letters would tell British people not to ride in t shirt, shorts and no gloves. Beware, road rash is no fun.
Very nice and cute video! ;)
Hi Freddie, you need to shop around for accommodation in Singapore. In 2020 we had a penthouse two room apartment with open air shower/bathroom, balcony and jacuzzi for £100 per night. We went up to Laos then Thailand and Malaysia, then came back to Singapore and got he same place again for the same price. Okay, my girlfriend originally came from Singapore (inside info) so we had local knowledge but it is more than possible. Best of luck with the adventure✅
A very interesting video. I hope the 'extreme' car taxes in Singapore don't give the UK Government ideas to rid our roads of millions of cars. Talk about driving motorists off the roads......😁
Thanks for taking us along your journey Freddie, always nice to experience new cultures, just a suggestion could you put a USD conversion amount from UK currency on the bottom of the screen or just verbally mentioning it so viewers like me in the US can make something of prices, thank you.
Freddy, we did get the CX500 in the U.K. about 40 years ago when it was a current model, there was even a Silverwing model like a mini Goldwing
Has a cx in the day worst bike iowned. Performance of a 250

Hi , been waiting for this , as you never see Singapore on TV other than F1 , to see the city is a treat . The blue Honda vee twin were in the UK in the late 1970,s early 80,s , as two chaps I worked with had them, one red one and the other one black . Keep an eye on Freddie , Monica, some how the heat is effecting his booking ideas , or you could end up in CHANGI Prison , my brother was often there , collecting wayward drunken sailors back in the late 1960,s to 1970,s , he always said it was a great place . Have fun and look out for the RATS .
Haha yep, Monika’s taken over ALL organising!
Your brother’s lived a colourful life- I bet he has some stories to tell!😃
Pulsars and Avengers are both a Bajaj brand .. all indian .. easy light bikes to ride .. ranging from 150cc to 220 ccs
Ayyy the Yamaha YBR125 is one of the main trainer bikes here in Singapore, used at the Comfort Delgro Driving Centre (CDC) for learning the first tier of motorcycle license (Class 2B)! The other two driving centres here (BBDC and SSDC) use Honda bikes instead!
Side note: Looks like the one you guys rented was a much older model than what's used at CDC :o
By the way, welcome to Singapore. Please follow the rules and regulations here for an enjoyable holiday. 😊
Jings crivvins Freddy you saved my bacon (and marriage) . I did not know you needed a e-submission for Singapore. Just heading for a bike trip in Oz and my wife is following on with a stopover in Singapore. Thank you!

Hi Freddie and Monika. I found your channel a while ago, subscribed and have enjoyed watching all the old episodes as well as all your latest. I'm 64, retired and live in Western Australia. I have a 2022 Honda CB500X and a new 2023 Royal Enfield 350 Classic Reborn in Halcyon Green. What a lovely bike that is to ride. My wife and I love watching your adventures, bike reviews, café reviews, etc. I commented the other day, "I want his life!" Can I make a request please? I think it would be cool if you put your Bonneville into a specialist motorcycle detailer and have it professionally done, complete with paint correction and metal polishing, etc. It'd be interesting to see how it looked afterwards. It would probably ride better too, lol. Keep up the great work, you guys. We really love what you do. Kind regards, Dave & Sue. :)

The vehicle Tax and COE are 2 different things
Each vehicle is taxed between 100%-320%, these still need a COE to be on the road. 80-120k for the COE for cars
The CB was a CB400SF (Super Four) rather than Hornet. It had a de-tuned CBR400RR engine afaik. A favourite of couriers in Irl & the UK years ago, and a little brother to the CB1000SF "Project Big-1".
Always good to see the signature Freddie low speed waddle come out. Not the most flattering!
