  • Two Mid-West MC's dropped on the same day. Coincidence? Also, does the mid-west have a definitive soundscape?
    I do a very brief review of the two projects.

    It's going to be hard for anyone to top Lupe. AOTY so far and some of his finest work. Soundtrakk bodied the assignment on the production side as well

      I forgot to credit the stellar production by Soundtrakk. This album packs a punch. Loving it.

      It's a good album, but Schoolboy Q and Vince Staples have actually released more well rounded projects than Lupe this year.

      @@dually81 Schoolboy Q always ends up having a crazy joint like "Pop" that I run back 1000s times (or his verse on 'Brand New Guy"). But overall 'Blue Lips' didn't have much replay value outside a few songs. Vince Staples album might eff around and be nominated for a grammy, imo.

      @@dually81 I like those albums too but imo Lupe hit an absolute home run on this one and it's one of my favorite albums ever production wise, which I think has to make it my AOTY. I do think Dark Times will grow on me more over time though, I definitely need to give it a few more spins

      @@ThatDopeShttt See as much as I like Lupe, for me Samurai is more lacking in replay value than Blue Lips. It's all subjective tho.
      Plus Lupe been rubbing me the wrong way with all his shenanigans and CraZy takes. The boy is a master troll... SMH

    I don't know how Lupe has kept his pen GOAT level for so long but here we are. He also took an unexpected angle and made it a dope project, I got Lupe. Boldy project is dope but that angle has been talked about before.

    Boldy James is a top ranking lyricist. He can't be in my top 5 simply because I just started listening 3 years ago, and have been listening to Lupe for eons. DROGAS WAVE was a masterpiece.

    • @ThatDopeShttt
      @ThatDopeShttt  Před 3 dny

      Boldy's catalogue > Lupe's, imo. Drogas Wave was thematically great, but not a classic album.

    I might be in the minority here but Lamp shade is actually my favourite song from the boldy album. I like the sample loop and love how the mix borders between perfect and imperfect. Otherwise both albums were a treat for any hip hop fan. I've had the lupe album on repeat since yesterday but prefer the boldy one slightly more.

      Dude has been on a crazy run. Have you been to any of his show? Phenomenal mic/crowd control

  • @nelsonomarvalencia-garcia3403

    i try to get into lupe but i just cant get with, what is to me, the overly lyrical music. I have to admit to myself I'm not one of the rap fans who is into very lyrical rap because it's hard to find that balance with a good listening experience. Cake is the biggest example for me. That hook does not sound good to me. I feel like I'm listening to Siri read a very long text message with no punctuation, on one of the cheap tpain autotune microphones from back in the day. I'll leave it to the rest of y'all :/

    • @ThatDopeShttt
      @ThatDopeShttt  Před 3 dny +2

      I beg to differ. 'Cake' sonically is easy on the ears. Whether you choose to fully digest his lyrics is up to you. I am still catching new themes throughout the album which gives it great replay value, imo.

      @@ThatDopeShttt I feel you. I'm really finding out what I do and don't like in music is really what I'm trying to get at. So many people talk about lupe's music and I tried to get into it but at some point i'm forcing myself to like something that's just not for me.

      @@nelsonomarvalencia-garcia3403 True indeed, 'Drogas Wave' and 'Tetsuo' are overrated imo. I like the earlier, 'hip hop' type Lupe. I see where you're coming from. A lot of people feel that way about Kdot as well.

  • @travahnb.896
    @travahnb.896 Před 3 dny +2

    Unpopular opinion but modern Lupe is overrated. His music is just ok. The rapping is elite ofc but sonically and conceptually its ehh. Like a deli youve been to a thousand times and the dude knows your order already. Good sandwich, good deli, but theres better stuff out there.
