- A jury has convicted a Wisconsin man of killing six people and injuring dozens of others when he drove his SUV into a Christmas parade last year. Darrell Brooks was found guilty Wednesday of all 76 charges, including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide. He drove into the parade in Waukesha on Nov. 21 after fleeing a domestic disturbance with an ex-girlfriend. Dozens of other people were hurt. Brooks dismissed his public defenders days before his trial began in early October and defended himself throughout the proceedings. He was removed from the courtroom at times for his erratic outbursts and confrontational exchanges with the judge.

What is mind boggling is Brooks actually believed he was going to be found innocent. IMO, if Brooks would have stopped after he hit the first person, he could have said it was an accident, but he didn't. He kept plowing through the parade.

Honestly i dont think that was the thinking here. When youre that screwed you take it to the end. Even a few monthis in holding jail is a luxury compared to max security prison.
He’s a malignant narcissist who is trying to maintain as much control as possible while simultaneously delaying prison and in the more immediate effect, getting to inflict as much discomfort on others as possible, soothing his ego to argue every possible point, as he has done throughout the entire trial.
In his mind this was a cliffhanger until the jury came out. To everyone else we knew the outcome.

I'm a retired detective and have attended scores if not hundreds of trials. I have rarely seen a finer judge than this lady - highly intelligent, very astute with the patience of a saint. Her performance should be compulsive viewing on video for trainee lawyers.
Heck, I'm not in the law field, but I'm using it asa training video on how to handle manipulative people. She is wonderful! 👏

@eric Spencer they’re asking a question to better understand the law… just because they don’t understand all the complexities of our legal system, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try. American has one of the most complex and complicated legal systems in the world, most of us out side of lawyers (and even they don’t know everything) don’t understand it.

I love, LOVE the completely false "shock devices" accusation he threw out before the verdict was read. He knew he was screwed but he STILL tried everything he could to delay or stop the trial. Watching his reaction to the verdicts being read was beautiful, karmatic justice.

He got off because the system does not send cops away especially in florida. He clearly ran the other way as seen in footage with the students. then for the court to give him so much time instead of 10 or so years home detention 60 years no jury was going to do that. Arizona" this judge could have sent Brooks into the other courtroom for the remainder of the trial after his "50th disrespectful outburst", and she still would have ensured that he was ineligible to be granted an appeal. Judge Jennifer Dorow went well beyond the threshold of what most judges would tolerate under "Illinois v. Arizona". She gave Brooks multiple opportunities to make valid, relevant, substantive points for his own defense, and he just couldn't do it. An appellate court that reviews this case is going to affirm that Judge Dorow conducted herself appropriately, and the Brooks' case was handled fairly.

I swear this never gets old. I can watch this all day long. I can’t believe he really thought the jury was just gonna nullify the law and let him walk free. I truly believe he thought that was gonna happen. When he made his closing argument and when he started to cry I wish they could pan to the jury. I bet not one of them was moved by his rhetoric. It would of been gold to see their faces stone faced while he was crying for himself.
My thoughts, too. Although it would have been painful to be there with the families of the victims, it would have been good to see their faces when the verdicts were read. I always picture Dorow playing Candy Crush as she's staring at her computer when she lets him go on a rant.

@@williamforsythe9180 I’m just going to assume this is a troll remark, but in the event that it’s not… yes, he will file for an appeal, which is within his right to, however there is absolutely no shot in him getting it approved. This guy was given more opportunities than anyone ever has in court to present his case and he chose not to at times. He was more concerned about trying to discredit the judge than prove his innocence. The record was very clear and this judge was fantastic at making it as such from start to finish.

I don't know what this jury was smoking. Mr. Darrell Esq had crafted such a brilliant criminal defense. It will a case study for future law school students and discussed in legal circles for years to come. I mean, not for as many years as he will spend in prison, but still a lot of years.
On Nov 19, 2021, Darrell Brooks was released on a $1,000.00 bail bond. One problem with his bail option was that he was "already on bail awaiting trial for a violent crime he committed in 2020." Brooks fired a gun at his nephew for making him upset. He was charged with two counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon, and possessing a firearm by a felon. Then got out on a low bail, even though it was a "violent crime" which is not what bail reform laws pertain to. While out on "that" bail, awaiting trial, Brooks was arrested again on Nov 2, 2021, for beating up the mother of his child at a gas station parking lot after she refused to get into his car. He continually punched her in the face causing severe injuries. And while she lay on the concrete, bleeding all over the parking lot. He got back into his mother's SUV (because he didn't own a vehicle, he just stole his mother's every day) and ran her over with the car. When the police arrived, Erika, his child's mother, had sustained severe injuries to her face and legs. The legs were injured when he ran them over with his vehicle, and the police noted that tire tracks were still embedded into her skin when paramedics arrived. She was hospitalized and pressed criminal charges against him. On Nov 19, 2021, Brooks was released from jail "again", while awaiting "two violent criminal acts" to go to trial, & again was able to pay a $1,000 bail bond for the "multiple assault and battery charges.”
However, the reckless endangerment charges for shooting a gun at his nephew were never considered during the Nov 19 arraignment. And two days later, on Nov 21, 2021, he decided to take out his anger by using the "same" vehicle he ran over Erika with. He ran over as many people as possible during an outdoor holiday parade. Like Timothy McVeigh, he wanted to cause the most damage possible to the largest population. (Granted, McVeigh's cause was more religious psychopathic in nature. And Brook's cause was more anger management sociopathic in nature. Still, the results of intentions remain the same.)
After killing six people that ranged in age from 8 years to 81 years old. Hospitalizing over 30 people, 18 of which were young children. He was detained and arrested once again. Currently, he is in prison and will remain there for the rest of his life. My problem with this case is that it should never have reached this point. From 2020 -2021 Darrell Brooks was arrested numerous times for breaking laws that always resulted in the critical injury or possible death of others.
I couldn't understand why he was allowed to be bailed out with active warrant out dating back 8yrs and firing a gun at his nephew then hitting Erica Paterson with the same car

Driving straight into a crowd of people, mowing them down with his car, is despicable! Imagining the horror they must have experienced sends chills down your spine. Unfortunately, even trash like this Brooks character is allowed to defend himself and waste 3 weeks of everyone's valuable time makes me upset. At least justice was served and he didn't have lawyers to spin and twist the facts around. The only shame is that this creature could not get the death penalty. He lives while 6 others - totally innocent victims - died, and countless others suffered serious injuries. Sad.

I know, right. He wined about people not being able to know what's in his heart and some BS about the car malfunctioning and that was his defense. Every day with his subject matter jurisdiction, tasset agreement, the judges oath of office. And the way he handled himself during the victim impact statements with the rolling of his eyes, laughing, shaking of his head and muttering under his breath. All of this and so much more was done in front of the judge and jury. The very people that decide his innocence or guilt and the person who decides your punishment. I've never seen a person so intent on digging their own grave.

That, or he thought he could make the judge so annoyed/angry/exhausted/etc that she would react emotionally or make some mistakes, giving him a chance to win an appeal. She didn't though. This judge did an awesome job at making sure the sentence will stick. She stayed calm, did everything by the book, and anyone giving him potential arguments to argue a mistrial was immediately corrected or (as seen near the start of this video) even removed from the courtroom. The emotional self-control and discipline of this judge is admirable.
He is looking at the jurors trying to figure out what the verdict was going to be.
Did he actually think that he was going to walk away scot free after running over and killing six people and injurying countless others.
This is probably the first time in his adult life being a bully and a manipulator did not work for him. Probably his first time being held accountable for his actions.
In his closing argument I believe he really thought they would find him not guilty.
Kind of hard to find him not guilty when there was obvious evidence that tore his ass in many, many ways. And his pathetic attempt to represent himself, as well as his shenanigans, didn't help him, either.

The judge got a lot of attention but in my opinion the prosecution team are the real heroes. Those three prosecutors presented an airtight case and did it with fearless grace and patience. Well done!

Well, I refer to the Casey Anthony case closing of the prosecution. I thought it was brilliant. It covered all the points brought up at trial, and did so with patience. And yet she was was acquitted.

Judge Dorow sets the ideal example for what a judge is supposed to be. Fair, impartial and dignified. Not easy to do when you consider the horrific nature of this crime and the nonstop harassment from this idiot who will spend the rest of his natural life in a 6x12

Im not sure if Wisconsin has any walled penitentiaries but regardless his exercise will likely be in a caged in dog run at some maximum security hell hole. Regardless of his disposition, I think prison admins will keep him in a PC lockdown for his own safety since he would never survive on a mainline.

I think he did a fine job considering he had no defense for what he did. He was front and center for 3 weeks when otherwise, the trial would have taken 1 week so he stalled the inevitable verdict for 2 weeks and got to have 'his say' everyday, Mon - Friday for 3 weeks. Any appeal he has is mute thanks to the defense being HIS own cLIEnt. lol.
