I started crying when I heard this clip. I was involved in a terrible work place incident 6 years ago. I felt my self in this guy's shoes and Jacko said your fine, thats normal, released years of emotions surrounding this issue. Thank you, brother, something shifted today!

    A Police Officer Prayer
Lord, I ask for courage, courage to face and conquer my own fears, courage to take me where others will not go.
I ask for strenghth of body that I may protect others, strength of spirit to lead others I ask for dedication.
Dedication to my job to do it well to my community, to keep it safe.
Give me lord, concern for others who trust me and compassion for those who need me and please lord, trough it all, be by my side.
    Amen.

There is a social expection that you must suffer after a tragedy. We need to shift from that, and say: ok, this happened. Now it is my responsibilty to handle this the right way, to move on. 👊

    The Fireman's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child before it's too late,
or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout,
and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,
to guard my neighbor and protect his property.
And if according to your will I have to lose my life,
bless with your protecting hand my loving family from strife.

I have gotten a ton of advice from experts (i.e. degrees in related fields, x years treating related issues...) related to trauma over the decades. Little of that advice seems to have been accurate or useful.
I bet that Jocko has been around a lot of PTSD over the years and would be interested to know what he has learned about spotting it. I wonder if he shouldn't have meetings to teach the experts what he has learned about such things.
The audio on the end of the video is missing.

If this member of law enforcement hasn’t read or listened to “On Combat” or “On Killing” by Dave Grossman, he needs to. These books have freed countless veterans and law enforcement officers from guilt, anxiety, and depression. These books should be mandatory reading for anyone coming out of a deadly force incident or anyone trusted with the use of deadly force.

gosh, this is very affecting. I'm not sure why. Maybe this is tenderness and honesty and strength and love all in one? Honesty and humility? I think there is something in a strong man being open and comfortable at the truth of "weakness" that is then strength. It makes me think of the opening line of Scott Peck's book: "Life is difficult.
This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. * It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters." But this advice is somehow BETTER - it is something like the true of this in action.
I think it is always helpful to be able to see the truth of where we are and when we are caught tup in stuff we can't, and so person not caught up can help us just by telling us. Like how tired children in their tiredness lose their ability to realise they are tired and make the decision to go to bed. We all have this charcterstic to some extent. and we all need encouragement! I love how the word enCOURage contains to the old word for heart or core - to put the heart back into us. I am going on: this was really good. I hope that guy is back out there; he will help other people for being helped in this way.

I have immense respect for you, Jacco, and you possess a great deal of wisdom. However, as someone who has developed PTSD from police work, I must say that part of your advice is really flawed.
Part of trauma is mental, and yes, a good mindset can help with that. But PTSD is a physical condition that can cause lasting damage to your brain. So not everything can be resolved with logic. Therefore, telling someone they don't have a problem is bad advice, in my opinion. I think many people are unaware that it is a physical condition, and this needs more attention. Of course, one shouldn't give up. You need to learn to cope with it. Accept that you are damaged and look at what is still possible. Adapt to the new situation. It's not easy, but it is the way forward, in my view.

I recommend looking into recent interviews with SEAL Eric Deming regarding Jocko and Task Unit Bruiser. This may help explain why Jocko gives bad advice at times.
Thanks for not worshipping Jocko and believing everything he says.
