- In todays video, I talk about my recent experience with my 2022 Subaru WRX. When I talked about what was going on on my Instagram story a few weeks ago, I got a barrage of messages asking me what happened. So I made a video. Keep in mind this was a random freak incident that I have never heard of happening before, so rest easy, your car will be just fine!

That is incredible! Cobb went above and beyond, no one pays for tows and everything else...so great!
For sure! Definitely thankful for them, and for you guys! ❤️
This is incredible! Good on you everyone involved to make sure you got taken care of.
all i heard this whole video is that cobb is the goat both in customer service and product
I've had nothing but good experiences with them
This is almost unheard type of customer service. Huge shout out to Cobb!
Yeah, right?? He didn't even follow cobb's instructions, told them he didn't follow the instructions properly, and they STILL offered to pay for it. Absolutely incredible. This video is probably the best PR for Cobb I've ever seen.
Aren't you supposed to have the key in the ON position and not actually ON when your flashing a tune ? Or am I wrong on that
@@FunkyWRX yeah, wow! That seems like the problem! The engine should NOT be running when flashing.
This is why I'm keeping my WRX stock besides just putting in the exhaust and drop in filter. Don't wanna deal with these type of situations. The VB WRX stock drives perfect as is and it's much better than the VA, but I don't race or track it so speed isn't everything for me.
Exactly. I'd never tune a car under warranty
I 100% agree. I don't want the headache for my daily. If it was a weekend car then maybe, but never a daily.
@@2strokeFORever I have an SPT so performance mod is extremely limited, but don't need much. Just get mods that improve the feel and handling and you can have a better driving experience.
Warranties were meant to be broken
drop in filter and no tune is exactly why you will deal with these type of situations
Unfortunately sometimes these situations occur and it’s a pain to find out who to talk to and whatnot, but I’m glad you took the initiative and were respectful and persistent!
That's honestly refreshing to hear about that kind of customer service. Glad you got it worked out and excited to see once you get the protune set up
Rip, glad you got everything resolved. Cobb is awesome 🔥
WOW, bro WHAT a STORY! I cant even believe you had to go through all this. Cobb is so amazing to have dine all this for you. I think being a youtuber really saved you here too. That and your resilience. I wonder how they would have reacted if it was a regular person, ya know. Just make aure to plug a battery chatger to it now 😂. Im glad you mentioned all this because im actually getting a lawyer to discuss the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. I think more people beed to know the truth!
Can't wait for you to put out that video! And I'm actually not the first person this happened to, I received several DMs on IG from people with the same situation, and Cobb helped them out also which was very nice to hear!
@@StreetInspired1 Man, that is great. I must admit your video scared me a little as a Cobb and a tune is in my near future.
He didn’t need a charger, he needed to have the car in accessory mode and not actually running (listen to the clip in the video)
@Nicholas Applegate the car wasn't running. The sound you hear is the throttle body opening and closing. And other electronics. It made that sound everytime you put it into the on position.
@@StreetInspired1 oh, for real?!?!
You’re very fortunate Subaru worked with you as much as they did. Most manufacturers do everything they can to deny coverage even on stock vehicles. Glad to hear Cobbs support was excellent. Clark is a great tuner I used him for my sti years ago, will use him again when I get the new wrx eventually. Curious how the e85 will turn out, I’ve heard people run into fueling issues past e50.
Moral of the story: Use a battery tender when flashing to be safe! Glad you got it all taken care of man! Cobb has awesome customer service!
You can still brick an ECU with a charger on the battery.
I don't think this was bricked due to that--but absolutely yes. I've seen many BMWs go down due to this very simple mistake. 10A charger is a must.
Man that is great that Cobb send up like they did man! I glad everything worked out well for you, I know what it is like not having your ride for any amount of time!
Darn auto correct messed up my comment meant to say “stepped up” not sent up😅
wow, I love cobb so much for this, they really do put the community first. mad respect❣️
I bought a certified pre-owned 2015 Subaru legacy and the front diff went up at 65K miles. The warrany for a certified pre-owned is 7 years or 100,000 miles. I had the car for 6.5 years and they told me that the warranty expired, because they did the work to make it certified 6 months before I bought it.
@@ashten2005 yeah thats ridiculous. I never understood the whole “5 years or 60K miles” type of warranties. My brother’s throttle body was going out on his 2017 WRX at around 43K miles and obviously it was faulty. The car more than 5 years old but was under 60K miles nonetheless. But they wouldn’t cover it because it was past 5 years. Apparently its not 60K miles OR 5 years but whichever one comes first. So although the car was below 60K miles, it was past the 5 year duration so they wouldn’t cover it. Powertrain warranty is very misleading.
@@rammy3767 I think a law should be passed where every consumer warranty should start at the PoS rather than whenever the manufacturer wants it to start. I know they would probably end grandfathered wannarties after a certain year, but it would help consumers from getting screwed out of service because of manufacturers date, or when certified servicing was done.
@@ashten2005 yeah that's totally bogus, I feel for you man. Subaru Dealerships are pretty damn sketch and nearly impossible to work with. Did you try getting in touch with Subaru of America seeing if they could resolve?
@@rammy3767 I figured that would have fallen on deaf ears, so I ended up getting a 23' Outback Premium
Cobb sounds like a great company to worth with or even work for. I love their communications with the customer and their internal communications. I wish my work place had such maturity and wherewithal. Nothing better than excellent communications.
Dude the exact same thing happened to me! beat for beat i had the exact same experience! Thats crazy you went through the same thing but im glad the car is back
Did cobb help you out?
@@fayizd654 Yea they helped me out. They said they would have sent me a new ecu if they had an extra one but they paid for my towing bill and all the repairs. It just took 2.5 months for the ECU to be delivered
That’s really cool to hear Cobb being so great.
Kinda similar situation 😢 my car has been down because of trying to get the car paint matched. But you just gotta stay persistent and everything will work out 😊 it’s always beneficial to have some helping hands also!!!
It’s not just cobb, it’s anything aftermarket. Tbh being a tech in the industry what Subaru did was pretty standard. It’s to cover their ass in case something happens to your car so you can’t blame them for it. Dealers don’t install aftermarket parts, plain and simple
Wow! Cobb really stepped up on this one!
Good information, lots of great points here to jot down especially regarding SUBARU etc,
One of the most relieving things I ever did was watch my WRX drive away with a different owner. Every Subaru WRX and STI owner will eventually start having more stress than fun with their car, which is such a shame since its the only car like it on the market.
At what point did your WRX start stressing you out?
That's great that were supported by all of them. Congrats!
...And this is why it's nearly impossible to find an umolested used WRX.
I noticed that after updating the firmware on my AP V3, the AP takes a considerable amount of time to connect to my VA STI's obd2 interface. It also disconnects from it, while the car is running, on occasion. Not sure if it's just mine or if anyone else has experienced this behavior with their AP. Best of luck through your scary times.
Sorry to hear that has happened to you, Cody. Hope you can make content soon.
When i get my car in 2 weeks, i will probably focus only on suspension mods
Thank you! I filmed this video after getting the car back and just got done my tune so I'll have that video out shortly! I want to work on suspension next!
As someone who used to work for Subaru, yes they were BSing you. They 100% can rewrite the vin on a ecm. It’s more of a concern of if the part is stolen, and that liability if it damages the car.
Grear news on Cobb helped you out to that extend. Good company.
Here's my personal thinking, i would never give Subaru the ammo, if i can't flat out afford a short block replacement or any ECM replacement.
Let's be honest, can't blame Subaru for having this mindset in regards to an ECM problem. In reality, I'd guess most of the time if there is a real ECU problem and there was an AP involved in any way, it's probably a great indicator that the problem is from the tuning.
I definitely can't blame them. I even told the people at subaru "I can't blame you for not wanting to install it" but eventually with proof that it was an oem part directly from Subaru they agreed and did the install.
@Street Inspired yup yup, glad you got it all fixed man. I'd be going crazy, waiting to see if I have to set some money on fire to fix it all.
Yeah you can this happens with all kinds of products with firmware. Its not difficult to add a a second bios or whatever to the ecu as well as a battery backup.
@@Gabriel-vj1cf you're willfully ignoring the CRAZY high percentage of WRX owners that fuck up their car by modding and tuning. There's a much higher chance that any issue that comes up is from user error vs. anything else.
Glad you got your car up and running and that Cobb took care of you.
Lots of people saying about the battery charger. Did you guys watch the whole video? He ends up saying the battery wasn't the issue and it was a software issue on the Accesport. Cobb did a great job here, but I think they ended up fixing it because they knew it was their fault and not his.
I got a '16 wrx. Modified. What happened to tgv and egr deletes, catless downpipe, muffler deletes? New wrx too much unpainted plastic
Muffler Deletes are still a thing, but the EPA cracked down hard on all that other shit. My old wrx had TGV & EGR Delete and catless downpipe. But I wasn't able to get my old wrx retuned with all of that stuff. It has nothing to do with the new car and everything to do with the stupid laws (mostly originating from California)
I had the typical throw out bearing noise on my 2017 Wrx and Subaru of America warrantied a brand new clutch kit for zero cost to me. They really hooked it up
SOA is usually really good. My 2015 wrx had the issue with the pitch stop breaking off. And my car was past the cut-off but they still warrantied it!
Will always listen to Cobb rules now before flashing lol.
Well handled. My 2017 6-speed VA WRX Premium Cobb tune went smoothly, and really was necessary for that model. I would not have kept it, had the Cobb tune not utterly transformed it with linear throttle and far less rev hang. Now I love it more than I did my BMW M3! I'm twice your age and still might have "blown a gasket" in your situation :o)
Yes it was the same way with my 2018, stock tune was bad. And with the 2022 WRX there is so much untapped potential with the bigger engine it's begging for a custom tune!
Good thing you didn’t tell subaru you fried the ecu by flashing the access port, when I got my first Subaru they told me point blank that a Cobb access port or anything Cobb voids warranty immediately, so now I’m thinking, what if it’s just a shift knob
Reminds me of when I has a Dinan tune on a BMW and the dealer was refusing to do warranty work on a leaking convertible roof. Crazy.
Even after you making a mistake cobb really came through and took care of you! Glad you got it figured out
I've responded to a ton of these comments but I'm just clearing the air since people missed that section in the video. This wasn't my mistake. It was a firmware issue on the Accesport and Cobb has had multiple cases exactly like mine and seam to have figured it out now. But either way I'm thankful for all they did for me!
@@StreetInspired1 OH! sorry about that, but yeah seems like both u and cobb did yalls job to get the subie back on the street!
absolutely amazing how cobb stepped up. props to you Cobb. They absolutely have my business moving forward. I have been considering this care and JB4 moving forward. This story is awesome. I'll stay with COBB. This right here is a story you never hear in the tuning industry for some reason.
Same exact thing has happened to me, I just sent out my ecu and access port to Cobb hope they can fix it lol but if not we’ll see what happens.
Fingers crossed, I'm sure they'll take care of you!
I have had no issues with my 2022 WRX. I bought it March 11th. No issues that people had with the screen. I have since done a full exhaust with a catted downpipe, a TMIC and charge pipe, and an intake. Got it tuned 3 weeks ago, and have had no issues. I think the main problem are people using OTS maps on the accessport. Its worth it to spend the money to have your car tuned on a dyno IMO.
Would it work with an 2020 outback XT?
This sounds like a Subaru nightmare. I’m glad you got it fixed. Sold my VA STI and never buying another Subaru unfortunately
did you take your sports grill off or was this before that video?
Add me to the 90%! I have flashed/removed AP so many times without a battery charger. The first flash on my VB it seemed a tad slower than my VA cars but other than that nothing unusual. It seems yours was a freak thing with the ecu. It also makes me wonder.. having another ecu requires the stealership to do that initialization/install? I have never had a backup ecu but it seems some important things need to be done after seeing your vid to even consider a backup ecu. Thanks for letting us know it needs to be brand new and not linked to another vin. If Subaru needs to do the reprogramming that will never work for us modified peeps.
I had a horrible experience with an access port on my car as well. I couldn't get it to flash my ecu for some reason. I had to send it to cobb to do the flash for me. Right after I got it back and plugged up the flashed ecu, my Turbo failed! So I ended up selling the access port, putting a new turbo on the car and trailering it to a tuner that completely robbed me blind. They held the car hostage for months. They even stole a peice off of my car and put it on their own racecar!
So I'm clearly not happy with either one of them but agile automotive in the philly/ dc area I'd certainly like to warn people about.
Damn, what a journey. I'm doing media for Boxerfest, I hope to see you there!
That's awesome! I'll be there!
I'm not sure but I don't think the car is supposed to be running while the access port is loading ? On thought it was supposed be in accessory mode with a battery charger plugged into it to make sure it doesn't turn off?
The engine was off. The sound you heard in the video was all of the sensors clicking trying to initiate the start up sequence and failing and retrying over and over.
I'm already a Cobb customer and will be more so after hearing your story! Glad everything worked out for you.
Moral of story people.........CONNECT YOUR BATTERY CHARGER! 🙃
I agree about Cobb, but Idk if that was the moral of the story. He said it ended up being a software issue in the Accesport. So it was never about the battery voltage. I'll probably still continue flashing without a charger as I've done for the last few years.
@@tannerl2971 Humor big guy......HUMOR!
With that said that is based clearly of Cobb's directions and STARK recommendation.
However if you do flash without a charger and have issues Cobb may not be as generous with the next person. i def don't want to test that though, so flash away with out a charger ..for the record I have flashed (MANY TIMES) without using a charger
So moral of story!
USE YOUR CHARGERS!.
"Here's a Crosstrek Loaner"
When I took my STI in to get the recalls done, they gave me a base Outback.
The outback and the crosstrek are very similar. Just different sizes. My dealership has crosstrek, Forester, outback, and legacy rentals.
it almost sounds like someone at the dealership swiped the first new ecm cobb sent, and replaced it with a bad one.
yeah it's all about financial liability on subaru's side of things. they used to be a lot more mod friendly 10 or so years ago with some dealerships selling aftermarket products from companies like cobb and aem. but i think due to the tightening of smog regulations, financial budgets being much tighter in regards to warranties, subaru had to change their mindset about things like this.
Great info, thank. So would an access port for the 22 wrx work on the 2023 wrx?
Yep! The 22 and 23 will use the same Accesport.
@@StreetInspired1 thank you bro, hope to run into you one day
a local shop here in my town said they had to do a motor replacement under warranty even tho they where sure it was caused by the fact there was nitrous run through the motor.. but supposedly could not prove it.
Subaru: "We can't prove it [the ECU] hasn't been tampered with"
0: "Ok, so then you are saying you can't prove ECU's _have_ been tampered with"
Subaru: angry_npc.jpg
I havnt dealt with Subaru but I know Hyundai was able to detatch an ECU from a Vin. There was a certain procedure to do it and there could only ever be one ecu hooked to a vin(to prevent swapping tuned ecus for stock like the good ol days). I would lean more the dealer just didnt wanna bother with it.
I had something similar happen to mine as well. I have the push button and wasn’t too familiar how the push button worked. Long story short, I cut my flash off at 1% on accident and mine wouldn’t start. Lucky for me my tuner was able to fix it.
As Subaru tech, I have to tell u a lot of reprogramming for modules regardless which, on the procedure it always mention to have the Subaru DCA-8000 hooked up with power supply mode. Good thing to remember.
The only reason I do use the battery charger is because I’ve had a ups backup save motherboards on high end computers during a bios flash. Anytime I do any firmware updates on anything I setup redundant power sources. I’ve had a surge and outage brick a few expensive pieces of hardware throughout the years. Mostly during bios flashes. And they cannot void warranty for tuning. In fact they have to prove that what you did is that caused the issue.
People don’t hook up battery chargers?? I make sure my battery stays at 13v by having the charger on and turning on things until it’s at 13v
Did you buy ap directly from Cobb?
I had the same issue where my tune was staying at 1% for a long time and kept turning off. But mine just started working after a few more attempts and i had to unmarry it and remarry. Was stuck at the gas station with E85 in and trying to tune it 😭
just got my 23 wrx yesterday and Subaru told and made me sign a paper work that I can't modify my exhaust system with aftermarket in order to keep my warranty
I have a 2018 WRX that I bought new and put a COBB tune on it after about 6 months of break in. It works great! I kept my car stock other than the tune for the past 5 years for this exact reason: any modified parts will definitely void the warranty. Even having the tune can void the warranty. I was OK with the risk because ultimately I could afford to lose my warranty..but who wants to lose their warranty? I did have two warranty repairs done with zero problems with the dealership. Now that it's past warranty though I think it's time to put a new exhaust on hehe.
Nothing but good from Cobb! 🙌🏼
Everybody went a step and beyond. I can understand Subaru. They really just want OEM products on the cars to protect the warranty and I'm sure they have SOP's that prohibit them from doing certain things to vehicles even if they wanted to.
Oof sounded rough but glad everything worked out for you.
Wow that sucks that this happened to you. This is why I am not running a tune or flashing my WRX until my warranty runs out. If you did not connect the COBB none of this would happen..
Great story, thanks for the intel. Can I unmarry my 2019 wrx AP and use it on my 2022?
I believe you can but you will have to have Cobb re license your Accessport for the 22.
Wow they straight denied my warranty claim when my motor seized up and SOA denied the warranty and it turns out that it was a bad bearing on cylinder 3 my sti has been sitting for over a year in the garage with the motor in boxes inside of it smh !!! and i still am paying for the car !!! At least you got your car fixed!!!
So one thing we learn here is that the reason why subaru don't have anymore ecu was that cobb bought all their ecu's.
New fear unlock💀
Bader Racing just made a video about this issue with the battrery charger. USE a battery charger when using the AccessPort. He said it takes like 35-40 minutes to download. Do this and you should be good.
Will be interesting to see what these cars are capable of with just bolt-ons and full builds, with 91 / 93 and E85 respectively.
I went from cobb over to ecutek (still cobb) to be able to tune the car how it should be. Bricked my ecu 3 different times and had my 21 wrx down for 8mo. Cobb recovered the ecu every time but the last time they stripped screws and left them in, smeared rtv everywhere on the outside and inside, and it showed up looking like they threw it down a flight of stairs and told me nothing. I contacted them and they tried to blame it on me saying I put "black locktite" on the threads (that they worked on) and they would not help me with any more recoveries. (Even though it is ecutek's (cobb) fault for not having the process correct for a 21. Love it.
they didnt want u as a customer anymore.... bricked it 3 times? lol....
@red-bd3mc Exactly. After their guys said they found and fixed the coding problem every time. Easier to just dump a customer. The ecutek side is jumping on the green cuck train anyway so at this point it wouldn't matter anyway unfortunately.
if your worried about warranty, don't mod cars. I have modded many cars and I immediately know warranty is done and that is part of the game we play.
I flashed my 08 sti a few times w Cobbs and never hooked up a battery charger.
Subaru won't install any aftermarket parts at 3 service centers near me. On top of that 2 of them refused to put an actual subaru part on my car since I provided it and they said cause it wasn't specifically made for that year model 😐
Glad cobb took care of you but i wonder how the experience would be for someone who isnt a youtuber.
In all honesty, I never once mentioned my youtube channel to them. So for all I know they had no idea.
Wow what a story! Cody the only thing I am confused about is the 2nd ECM that Cobb sent; I thought the first one they sent was "used" and the second one they sent was also "used." If the second one was truly brand new, sealed in plastic and whatnot, why didn't they just send you that first? Maybe an experiment to see if the used one would work? And if not, how did Cobb manage to have a brand new ECM if they are so severely backordered? Maybe they have some on hand in case they break something during R&D.
Cobb told me they had a few laying around that they originally bought for R&D purposes. Cobb is still unsure how the first one ended up being used because they swore they sent out a new unit, so it may have some how got mixed up and they sent the wrong one. The second one they send was brand new and had no assigned Vin which is why subaru was then able to install it.
That's fantastic customer service from Cobb Tuning!
So if i put a cat back exhaust on my 2021 WRX will it void the warranty on the drivetrain?
No. They would never be able to prove a catback exhaust damaged the drivetrain. You would win that case 99% of the time. Subaru can be jerks though. My best friend blew his transmission on his 2019 wrx completely stock with really low miles and the dealer said "it was abuse" and denied his claim. That's why I just say screw it and mod my car how I want.
@@StreetInspired1 thanks bro 👍
@@StreetInspired1 wow that sucks. Glad I wasn't relying on my warranty I have most certainly done some abusive driving lol!!
Just came across your channel because I’m interested in maybe getting the new WRX however the black plastic still looks horrible to me anyway I am a 2013 Legacy 3.6 R owner and let me just tell you any battery from the factory on a Subaru car is shit my car which has the biggest engine Subaru makes came with a 480 cca battery I can’t remember what the running time on the piece of crap was, The first thing I did is I jumped over to something higher a Johnson control battery at the time it’s solved all my issues I am now currently running a group 24 with 700 and something to CCA.. run time is like 120 minutes now…. if you look at for instance Toyota on there 3.5 they are running 800 to 850.
Absolutely need a battery charger--coming from the BMW tuning world, it's absolutely critical on these newer vehicles. I have a Solar 10A charger and it works awesome. Once hooked up to the charger, you should also have door closed, HVAC off, everything disconnected, everything that could be off turned off. Obviously looked like you had enough charge at the start, so it doesn't really matter here, but I've never had issues following those rules.
One thing that is odd is HOW on earth subaru can't just debrick their ECU. Crazy how phones have more advanced recovery options than vehicle ECUs. It is also very common that ECUs lock to a VIN. This is why you normally have to go to a third party for bench unlock.
I will say I think what you did with Subaru is really kinda BS. When you tune the car, you have to accept you will not have a warranty. Trying to obscure this is... not ethical.
I program ECU’s for a living, a battery maintainer is MANDATORY when flashing any ECU or things like this happen. Don’t ever flash anything without at least 13.5 volts or you risk bricking the EEPROM
This story is amazing ❤ Cobb Super
Every accessport owners nightmare to start.
I did have the battery charger hooked up to my MPS (Speed3) and it was all good.
Sounds like the AP failed.
Yeah I had a freak motor explosion.. iag even said it wasn't my fault. Glad everything worked out for you, I no longer mess with my car at all because of it.
That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope some day you're able to get back into it.
@@StreetInspired1 thanks man I appreciate it! Maybe when it's not my only car, I've put about 30k on the built motor and no issues but you never know I guess. The stock block spun a bearings and punched a fist size hole in my block. Sad the only time the car ever saw close to redline or full boost was when it was being tune. Idek what it feels like to get on it with the new motor. No lspi either I know it's bad to push it at low rpm. I even checked the oil at the gas station 20 minutes before it happened and it was right where it should be.
This is why I only drive classics because there is no such thing as a dealership that knows anything
Pretty sure my 22 had something similar. Car drove fine and then electronics went haywire. Luckily it happened *before* I tuned it (thank god) and everything got replaced under warranty. I bet you if you drive the car a few more miles before tuning you would have had the same thing come up.
Hope my Cobb shift knob doesn't void my warranty haha
Dude the same exact thing happened to me minus the car sputtering (22 WRX), but COBB took care of me just the same. They're awesome. You should send them the broken ECM.
That's unfortunate, but I'm glad to hear they took care of you! I actually did send them my ecu so they could look into it, and also sent back the first ecu they sent. Sounds like they decided it was a firmware issue do hopefully future problems have been alleviated.
Wow. This is exactly why I don't mess with tunes. The risk just isnt worth it to me. Im glad you got it figured out
its good to keep margins
You're really lucky guy because we've been having problems with cobb for a couple months my son had a V-2 access port on his 2002 WRX and My laptop crash so we lost the software So we asked them to resend the software and it says it's not compatible with the v2 they made us Purchase V3 and since then they re not helping us They started by saying they don't have me in their data list and then that the software is waiting for update It's been at least 4 months now and they still don't reply
This is EXACTLY why i had Cobb on my last wrx...and now that i am finally comfortable with the new platform, I will again buy COBB for anything I can. Let Subaru report you, they really have been going downhill for about a decade now for reasons exactly like this and what they did to their own Ambassadors and a long list of others...but the WRX is one of the best year round toys your money can buy.
Never had a battery charger connected to my Fiesta St while flashing tunes. Probably did 100+ times without any issues.... I've got a friend with a focus st that does the same and never had any issues
cobb got us all covered cobb is the goat
If you haven't, you should....Connect a battery charger when you are flashing!!
This applies for any tuning platform. The electronics in modern cars have a good amount of battery draw.
Subaru sounds like a pain in the D to deal with…..I hope my dealer wouldn’t be that petty. But definitely ask to have a persons name on slip vs Cobb lol.
I would definitely push for a new AP unit though.
Hope you’re back rolling in your Rex asap dude! 🤞🤞🤞
I actually filmed this after the ordeal so I'm back! Cobb reset my AP and I updated it to the latest firmware and I'm rolling around protuned on the new ECU Cobb provided!
I haven't even watched the video yet, but the moment I started tuning a car, I wouldn't expect to bring it to a dealership for anything powertrain related again.
@Dan Mac the video will explain. I never take my car to the dealer or any shop for that matter, but was instructed to by Cobb
@@StreetInspired1 nice! Hope to see a vid with #s!
Btw thanks for your iir bumper removal video, used it to install my jdm grille over the weekend
Cobb support is amazing. I have had a great experience with them. Just hope they release the Flex Fuel sensor for VA and VB WRX soon.
Stories like this worry me and why I just can’t mod mine. I just don’t have $$$ like that.
What a fantastic way to promote themselves! By providing the best customer service!
I don’t use Cobb, but they seem like a great company to deal with!
Couple of questions.
1. Sounds like you didnt have to say how the ECU got fried with Subaru. Didn't Subaru ask you when you dropped it off initially if you installed an Accessport?
I would think that would be the first question they would ask.
2. If Subaru took initiative to begin fixing the issue, why did you assume Cobb will be paying for all cost?
Thanks
So initially, I told subaru it just happened because I was advised by a few people not to say anything to jeprodize my warranty. Cobb accepted responsibility immediately and told me to take it to Subaru and they would reimburse me for all costs. But because I didn't say anything to subaru, they were going to replace it under warranty. Until I found out it would be 2.5 months for an ECM to show up. After telling Cobb this, they shipped out the ECM to Subaru. At the time of them installing it and everything coming from Cobb I'm sure they had their suspicions about tuning but they never asked if I had tuned or attempted to tune the vehicle so I still never said anything. But because it wasn't a direct part from subaru headquarters, I still had to pay the full price of the repairs (which cobb reimbursed) and they had to submit a modified vehicle report to SOA that basically killed my warranty on any future ECM issues and could potentially be used to deny other related warranty claims.

I have a Cobb and ETS intake on my car. And I agree I would only answer questions that are asked and that would be it.
Also I didn't have a battery tender when I was flashing my VB. It's a 22 and battery is new right? I luckily didn't have an issue but for anyone else watching it might be a good idea just to do it even though it sounds like that wasn't your issue.
@badbeatking80 That was my mindset and although it ended up not being that, it still scared me into using one now. Never hurts to be safe.
