- Wonka blasted past $150 Million Box Office and I went to see Timothée Chalamet and his performance, not expecting much from the film. However, I was surprised.

They should've put Wonka bars in stores where if you find a golden ticket inside, it counts as a free movie pass.
I would've bought some.
My girlfriend wanted to see it, I didn’t. I took her anyway, and ended up really enjoyed it.
we all know what you really enjoyed for sitting through a musical, weave all seen South Park!
London in the 1920s was the capital of the largest empire the world had ever seen, including the West Indies and about half of the whole African continent. There was nothing surprising about finding people of African descent there, and in fact you can meet them in both Sherlock Holmes stories and Agatha Christie novels.
Yet we have census data that says otherwise. Not to mention the UK has had more immigration in the last 40 years than it has in the rest of its entire existence.
Not everything needs to be diverse. Black people won’t die if they are not in every movie.
@@PistonHonda87 Did the census data say that there were no black people in London before 1947? If not, I suggest you accept Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's account, and shut up. Not everything is evil and villainous wokery, and not every hill is worth dying on
It definitely wasn’t set in London - I would say a magical 1920s Europe maybe?
@@PistonHonda87 Ironically, Caucasian people won't die if they're not the lead in every movie, like the past 100 years...😅😅👌🏾
@@tsheporabekane4172 None of this matters. The author has chosen to have a black character in the story. Given the period and setting, there is nothing unlikely or inartistic about the choice. End of affair.
I just can't take that Chalamet kid.
totally agree! He just... bugs me.
So it’s black girl magic the movie.
Lol but they didn’t say the cringy line!
No, not really. She’s another character.
i appreciate the review Jon. i was wondering if i could watach this with the kiddos. looks like someone wanted to make a minor turn toward family friendly movies that arent from when i was a kid
Diversity casting is only a problem when RACE, GENDER, or SEXUALITY is plot relevant and/or "I'm Morally Better Than You Because Of My RACE, GENDER, or SEXUALITY" nonsense and/or race/gender bending a historical character.
Now there can be exceptions. Take The Shawshank Redemption (1994) for example. Redd, played by Morgan Freeman, was a white Irish guy in the book. However Freeman was casted on his acting talent and they didn't play Redd as a victim.
So for the black girl, we have to ask this question: Does she blame her current state because she is black or a girl? Does she insult Wonka because he's a white man? Is she smarter than Wonka? Does she have lead Wonka around?
If there's a "Yes" to any of the above questions, then the movie is woke.
Race/Gender and sexuality swipes are also woke now. It's too late to say otherwise, especially when everyone already knows why they do it. You may not agree with that, but more people do and will continue to. Welcome to 2023.
And she doesn’t.
@@idiotproofdalek she is also race and gender swiped. That's considered woke now
Props yo you. I personally won't even entertain watching it.
You're looking for historical accuracy and perfect logic in ''Wonka,'' a musical fantasy where people break out into song and dance? And you write science fiction? And with all those digs against diversity, it sounds like your worldview could use more ''Pure Imagination.''
I was also thinking “there is a lot of black people, but there is magical chocolates so whatever”
Notice how representation means over representations.
no desire or intent to see this. however it doesnt offend or anger me it might not be a train wreck. I simply dont care. It doesnt look good at all to me and i hate the idea of making a sequel and the idea of it... but i dont care.
The only deviation from the source material that I didnt like was that the oompa loompas weren't pygmy africans like they were in the books, think about how many great opportunities that would've provided for representation for black dwarfs.
It impossible to top the original, but it’s hopeful that they didn’t tear down / insult the original while making a fun flick for families
So Jon. Glad you enjoyed the movie but…..why the ignorant diversity comments? There is no reason that this land of pure magic can’t aspire to color blindness. You should educate yourself and get out more.
Its not set in London dude. Its a sort of late 19th century Europe with a bit of America in the 1920s. But its mostly a fantastical world that never existed.
Im not seeing it, i have no interest in seeing it, and i had a feeling it's going to be woke anyway, and the race and gender swiping of Charlie, and the same tired out excuse of it's an alternative universe or it's a prequel also proves it so....i hope it either flops or underperforms. Just my opinion anyway. And just in case anyone tries to call me a snowflake or tells me it's not that big a deal, or gives me examples of how white characters were played by different races from before... I'll just say this, you want to call me a snowflake, I don't care. At this point Hollywood admitted the REAL reasons they do this now in the first place, so it's clearly not just me that's against it. If it's not that big of a deal, they wouldn't have done it in the first place, so you can take that excuse right back to Twitter where it belongs. They are basically taking someone else's work and changing it to what they think it should be, which is basically cultural vandalism, it clearly didn't work with Disney, it's not going to work with this. As for the fact they've done stuff like this from before, like i said Hollywood already told everyone why they do it, and THAT is what the vast majority of the world is against now....times have changed, and so have people's opinions of Hollywood now. Im not attacking you btw, this is just for anyone else that wants to try and guilt trip me into changing my mind....spoiler alert: they won't.
I’ve seen it, and I hate woke. This movie isn’t woke, its a good time.
@@idiotproofdalek I don't believe you. 🤷
Charlie isn't in this movie dude, I don't know what to tell you
@@25meip Yep, all the more reason to not see it. If the zombies want to see the remake, by all means. I don't give money to cultural vandalism.
@@MisterC86-fc6og Again, it's not a remake. It's a prequel. If you're so high off your own farts that you've lost all basic reading comprehension, maybe take a break from the Internet for a while
Roald Dahl stories ARE ridiculous and nonsensical, dude. But I agree the Wonka movie was good.
