I fell for the smoke thinking it was exhaust from a bus, and only because I had two guys from the Midwest with me who were adamant it was a tornado did I turn off the main street. I was driving straight for it. I no longer live in SLC and can't remember exactly the street names, but let me guess. 100 South and turned south on about 200 West where I stopped at about 2nd South, got out of my truck watched is swirl by. That's the first time I've ever seen rain fly sideways. It was an amazing encounter with a powerful natural phenomena. I'm sorry that one man was killed. We had a department lunch. When we left the restaurant, one of the guys riding with me looked up and pointed out the mezzo cyclone that was right over the building. Looked like an upside down cinnamon roll! 😊 Only in cloudy grey.
I live in California now, again (moved back after 15 years in SLC), and I'll take earthquakes any day over tornadoes. Thanks very much!

Yeah. You mean the Earthquakes that will suddenly strike without warning and can destroy entire cities in seconds. At least with a tornado you can prepare for.
