      Me too, big fan.. I've declined a lot of shady companies with cameras lately, but still want to find good alternative to Reolink, that I would trust.

    I really wish you provided more examples of actual images from the camera. Reolink has zero on their marketing material, which is a real shame if you ask me.

    Great Review!! I had just purchased a RLC-810 on sale from Amazon. Looking to replace old 2K Cameras with no Home Assistant integration. I'll look into the CX810. Might be better than the RLC-810.

      I'll be getting 810WA for testing soon too. Will do comparison of it against CX810, probably in 3 weeks.

    G'day, I am lucky to have the Police often asking me for CCTV. Several hundred hours worth for the first 6 months of 2024. They keep telling me that my CCTV footage (Reolink) is amongst the best they get. A big part of that is I have colour on most of my cameras because I also run floodlights facing the street. I'm on a corner block. The CX range of cameras would reduce the need for a lot of the floodlights.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Před měsícem +1

      That's really awesome to hear. So far I've only once ended up going to the police with footage, but having high quality images that they can use really helps.
      Yes, having "native" colour during night/low light would really help.

  • @gerryf7015
    @gerryf7015 Před měsícem +1

    You do need some supplemental light to have color night recording - porch light, solar light, etc. They do not work in complete darkness.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Před měsícem +1

      Well, actually, nope. Those images from my house in pitch dark, no lights in minimum of 100m from them (street lights or neighbours houses), except in far distance city lights (3+ kilometers). Only light source is night sky and moon was in Waning Gibbous. You can compare the images from other cameras covering same area in total darkness - they are on same clip.
      But it does have spotlight on it for when motion is triggered.

      @@BeardedTinker With very low light you tend to get a ghosting image is someone moves at night. You really need some minimal supplemental light, if you don't want to trigger the camera light. I have a lot of Reolink camera too (11) but no CX yet. You should take a look at the CZcamsr - LifeHackster, he is probably the person everyone goes to for security camera reviews. He covers all brands, but mostly uses Reolink in a lot of his own setup. He does not do HA!! Look at the video -
      Reolink CX810 vs CX410 - Which is better in low light. I'm currently planning to add two E1 Outdoor CX, which has the same sensor as the CX410 but also has tracking capability. He just did that review this week (on my request!!!).

    Great video! One thing that wasn't so clear to me is how much better ColorX is in your real world testing. Is it marketing or really night and day improvement? (sorry, couldn't resist the pun :))
    Reolink cameras have great daytime image quality but their weakness has always been low light / night imaging. Really hope that ColorX is improving that.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Před měsícem +1

      It really is a big difference. Due to time constraint there is less of shots during the night, but I'll be doing one more video soon - comparing it with 810WA focusing just on night shot differences.
      There are two night shots in video I've added - not lasting very long where I have 4 cameras visible at same time, and you can see the difference there too, but, again, not very long.

    For the Home Assistant integration, don't you need to use Frigate? or there is native integration (i.e., via HACS)? I am confused.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Před měsícem +1

      No, Frigate is optional as NVR or as tool for face recognition.
      Home Assistant has internal Reolink integration that is also maintained by Reolink team (among many others) AFAIK:

      @@BeardedTinker Awesome thanks!!! I have been exploring options to deploy my camera system and I was debating between Reolink and Unifi but I am leaning into Reolink for its easy integration with Home Assistant and other NVRs and has higher resolution compared with Unifi. The challenge is to use the right NVR like in your case the Synology Surveillance Station. I am thinking to try out Frigate but I know as friendly to deploy and configure compared with Unifi Protect (trade offs!!)

      This is a bit personal feeling, but I would go for Reolink.
      I always remember one story from company that was producing printers. They had company saying "we are producing printers, if we are not good at them, there is nothing else we could sell, compared to the HP that's selling everything including toilet paper, they will make money somewhere."

    nice video!!! so quick and stupid question: Do you enable the built-in Camera AI detection (person, vehicle, pets, etc.) and also configure it the Synology station? If so you do you get double alerts (from Reolink camera and Synology Surveillance Station)? Thanks!

    • @BeardedTinker

      Thank you! Not stupid, but very good question - I use camera detection. On Synology I configure that for triggers, camera setting are used. Haven't seen and double triggers so far both on older Surveillance station (6.x) or newer (7.x).
