When reviewing reports of supposed encounters with strange entities, it’s easy to be sceptical. However, the situation becomes more challenging when crucial witnesses can present seemingly compelling physical evidence to substantiate their claims. Such was the case in an incident, which occurred in the southern United States during the early 1970s, an alleged encounter with a mysterious figure known as the Alabama Metal Man.

Wow, the worst part is his wife divorcing him. Truly a despicable woman. She talked him into talking about it and then abandons him when things get rough.
There’s things getting rough, and then there’s having your house firebombed. While moving away with him should’ve been the move, I can also see cutting ties in order to keep yourself physically safe. As policeman say, awful, but lawful
Despicable indeed. And I’ll say she’d been salivating over a reason for a very long time, and jumped at the opportunity. No telling how much she’d already been screwing around on him.
@@dark___matter_ projecting much💀
Average woman moment
Edit: I take it back, my wife is a lovely lady but ygm 🤣
She could've went somewhere safe until he could secure safer lodging. Filing for divorce because of the fallout from the story that *she* encouraged him to share is a shitty move. She was definitely looking for a reason to divorce him. I wouldn't be surprised if she encouraged him to share the story *knowing* that something like this would happen and might've even helped orchestrate the events that happened afterwards to give herself a valid reason for divorce. Disposable marriages weren't as common 50 years ago. Or maybe he just wasn't a great husband before the events took place. Who knows?!? 🤷🏽♀️
The most disturbing thing about this story was the insane reaction of the community towards the witness. What a bunch of evil bastards.
Well we know where the town is, so if anybody is game they can return the favor
I know, and the skeptics say "If UFO's/ghosts/Nessie/Bigfoot etc were real, why don't more witnesses speak out?"... THAT'S why!
The firebombing makes me think there may have been more to this guy than the story lets on
Makes you wonder if you saw something like that if you'd come forward. Not entirely sure if I would.
@@danielsatter1805 I doubt if anybody witnessed John Mack's fate would.
What that guy went through was pretty brutal just to be a prank. Not just the ridicule, but he also lost his wife and his career.
It sounds like he was set up and someone wanted him out of town, Who was the person who first made the phone call about the UFO landing because no one followed up on that.

I imagine that in 1970 Alabama the people were rather religious.

I am now 53 years old but when I was 16, on the opening day of deer season. I walked up on a Sasquatch squatted down by a creek. This is the only encounter I've ever had in my life, but it changed my life forever. I can understand the ridiculed the man went through and feel sorry for him. there are things out there that we simply do not understand. After my encounter I was afraid to go into the woods for a year, but I started back hunting and even wanted to encounter the creature again, and I thought I would but in the 36 years following I never found so much as even a track. I have been left wondering how this could be and will most likely wonder this until I pass away.
How far away were you and did it notice you? Can you describe the interaction more? Is it possible it was a bear?
I had a UFO encounter and feel the same way only saw it once and 20+ years later still left with the feeling of wondering what it was all about.
Never had any other weird experiences, never really told anyone else about it other than my one friend who loves that kinda thing.

That's amazing. How close did you get? Did it see you?
Assuming Greenhaw was telling the truth, if it was a teenager/kid in a suit, how the hell did they outrun a car going 40mph while running in such an awkward way
I'm no genius, of course, but if Greenhaw was capable of paying some kid to dress up in a costume for a few photographs, then maybe he was also capable of making up descriptions of how it moved?
@@kayfletcher6940 yeah that. When you have a single witness describing everything... you have to consider whether the witness is actually accurate/honest.
I would say meth, but I don't think that was widely available in the early 1970s.
@@Madhouse_Media I just had to look this up, and I was surprised. It's been available since 1887, and was mass produced and distributed to soldiers in WW2.
@@foo219yeah meth has been around for a very long time with various recipes. I'd assume getting the ingredients was much easier back then but you'd need someone who can synthesise it too which isn't likely.
The true horror are the terrible depths townsfolks in small communities can sink to in the presence of an "acceptable" target. This is far more disturbing than any UFO story here.
Take it from someone who has experienced such cruelty from large groups of people

I'm an Alabama native and an LEO, thank you for this story guys.
One thing to note about this one too, apparently the people who thought it was coincidental for a police officer to carry a camera were too stupid to know that a cop needs to carry a camera to take crime scene photographs.
In 1970? I dont think so.
@@jaroslavpesek6642 You're absolutely right, a small town police department *definitely* has a staff photographer and they can *definitely* be reached anywhere at any time despite cell phones not existing.
@@jaroslavpesek6642 yeah, there wasn't any such thing as crime scene photos in 1970. Dumbass.
But, according to this story, the caller said that they had seen a large and unidentified craft land, so maybe knowing that, he took along a camera? Just saying.
@@roviwoteap2375 7:16 He kept it in the glovebox of the truck. I was going to say exactly the same thing @arthurgodwin6571 said; police (especially officers in small towns) would have polaroid cameras so they could take photos of crime scenes as soon as they arrived so the evidence was as fresh as it could be at the time of discovery and before the rush of extra hands (and feet) to the scene. Now, they don't need to carry bulky polaroid or kodak cameras because now they have GoPros and cell phones.

I assumed something similar 😂
I’m actually from the area and made my own video on it. The town pretty much thinks it was a hoax played on him by a guy named Ricky Jo Smith. He was a prankster that showed up to a Halloween party in the exact costume as the Metal Man 2 weeks later. However Greenhaw was a victim of this and is the exact reason why people don’t come forward with their encounters. The 50th anniversary is this Tuesday October 17th. Greenhaw never changes his story plus the Pascagoula Alien Abduction happened the same week with Alien entities describing similar creatures
Watching your video. Ty
This Ricky Jo Smith must be have been amazing at running and jumping. Great video by the way!
An alien 👽 tried to abduct me and only backed off after I bitch slapped him several times upside his giant head.
@@TheVampireFishQueenit was a dark foggy night. Greenhaw could’ve thought he saw him jumping high or exaggerated that in his telling. Or maybe it was a real alien and Ricky Jo just make a costume that looked close enough like it the rumor mill got started. Either way the way the town treated Jeff was terrible. I reached out to him before doing my video. His new wife picked up and said he wasn’t doing interviews anymore and that it was unnecessary because his story had been the same since it happened and wasn’t going to change.
So is it a prank or did dude really see aliens?
As a sceptic my reaction is not to firebomb his house. That's an insane overreaction.
Agreed. It's a bit of a misstep. I would even venture to say it's quite rude.

Sounds like the salem witch trials all over again. Poor guy. Whether he lied or not that was blown way out of proportion.
Agreed. People were looking for a scapegoat to pin all their problems on. Poor guy indeed.
I feel bad for Greenhaw. He didn't deserve that ridicule, and I believe he definitely saw something out there. To me, it sounds like the authorities really wanted to cover it up. I mean, how the hell do you explain someone outrunning a car going 40 mph as a prank?
He absolutely deserved to be ridiculed. But I think the destruction/theft of his property is just a little extreme given all he did was tell a obviously fake story.
@Inquisitor_Redacted why did he deserve it?
@@Inquisitor_RedactedHe really DID NOT. Only narrow minded, arrogant fools believe we’re alone.
Assuming this wasn't all a stunt by the cop the town is really messed up if they firebomb a house. It feels more like someone in the towns didn't like him and were out to get him so they set all this up.
Whoa, quite strange that the community reacted so violently to his claims. Fire bombing his home over something like this? Even *if* he was lying, isnt that overkill? If he was telling the truth, seems like he was intentionally set up. Either that or maybe some military thing that he wasnt supposed to see, so they were trying to shut him up. Sad results either way :(
Wonder if the military was trying out some kind of armored exoskeleton test that accidently got witnessed? Would explain the campaign to discredit the guy.
Nah. Were it the military he would have simply been talked to. It's amazing how compliant most people are when you just say "You saw something you shouldn't have, and we can't have it out. Discussion would lead to severe prosecution." Most just say ok, no problem, and go about their day.
@@Plapradit’s because they were in denial. Also it is Alabama which is a very godly Christian and conservative place where anything even slightly “woo woo” is considered demonic. *Especially* Back in the 1970s. So they probably got in arms and wanted to “drive out the evil”.

@@J40JesusIsLordLol, have you ever been in the military?
The military doesn't test top secret technology in an area where people might see it, because it wouldn't be a secret for long.
Something similar happened to a police officer in Nebraska in 1967. IIRC he supposedly spoke to an alien telepathically but who was not visible. He became a laughing stock to the point people would tear up traffic tickets in to his face. He eventually was forced out also.
That's a big story to take in though. Someone having mental problems is the knee jerk reaction.
Geez
You'd think that police officers would make the most credible witnesses, as they are the ones who are meant to take their jobs seriously.
@@BBBHueycops can be pathological liars too
@@BBBHueyNot always
Many take advantage of their position for their own ends
As far as Greenhaw being a hoaxer, I can't fathom any level of miscalculation that a 1970's sheriff in Alabama could make that he would think a robot alien sighting to be great for his reputation.
Honestly, in stories like these, the trope that horrifies me the most is when people try to reach out for help and they just get ignored or ridiculed. I always imagine it's like when someone with a mental illness or disability asks for help and since few people understand mental illnesses and disabilities, they just say they don't need or deserve help. Or like someone is trying to escape an abusive relationship but no one would believe that person can be abusive or the abuser constantly gaslights the victim. That's some *real* horror right there!
You are entirely correct.
The thing is... it would be one thing if said individual was always a little "Odd" or even recently displaying erratic behavior. Or even after the incident. Though if the incident in question is the only thing that an otherwise well liked police chief is showing as far as erratic behavior goes... one may at least give a little benefit of the doubt to it.
This happened less than 30 minutes where I live. The neighboring county is also where I had my first and only encounter with an unknown aerial phenomenon that I still cannot explain to this day. There’s strange happenings taking place in this neck of the woods.
I saw a UFO in West Jefferson in 1997. Pretty sure now it was a military test plane. Unmarked white double triangle. Flying low, going really, really fast.
Yeah same actually. Could have just been a meth head from Lacon lol
I've seen UFOs all over West Jefferson, I have also encountered other phenomenal entities, some scary shit.
I've always believed & am still 99% certain the chief of police was setup. He was very young in a high position. The caller was anonymous. The figure looked to be wearing what someone working in a blast furnace might wear. The extreme reaction of the town was too odd. I firmly believed some ppl in town wanted him out or were jealous, likely a few of his subordinates & maybe someone seriously wanted that position or to see him ousted for whatever reason. The actions against him were extremely personal.
Makes sense....I live in north Alabama and a lot of these rednecks can be extremely nasty and petty and underhanded.
I got the same vibe from this story. They wanted him out and someone else in.
Also, the fact the initial call was apparently to his home, NOT the station. That detail stuck out to me
i suspect his wife wanted a divorce in the first place. possibly already having an affair, then plotted with her new lover to set him up to make a clean sweep in the divorce. afterall, she encourage him to say something.
So, if he was telling the truth about what he saw and it was a prank by others, explain how the person was able to run so fast and jump so high.
I don’t think it’s suspicious that he had a camera especially a Polaroid. He’s a cop. He may have to take pictures of stuff. We routinely take pictures of vehicles involved in accidents and wounds before we dress them to show the receiving staff at the ER the extent of the damage and injuries we encounter on scene. Death investigators take lots of pictures too.
Exactly. He probably needed documentary evidence to submit to his superior in order to build up a case file. It makes sense to me why he had a camera on him at the time.
Greenhaw really should have tried to figure out who called in the first place? That person clearly was in on it/ or seen something themselves.

Um, Cullman is closer than Haleyville.
I think the most unbelievable thing here is that anyone thought they could convince the good people of mid-/late-20th Alabama about the existence of anything anomalous. I don't know. The pictures definitely look odd, what little there is to see of them. But you'd have to be a particular type of stupid to think you could successfully hoax a bunch of small-town Alabamans with some blurry photos and a crazy story. Firebombing homes (or burning crosses in yards) is the de facto response to "unusual" things in that state. And this guy would have *known* that. I'd be willing to bet that while some of this *might* be apocryphal, this guy likely saw something unusual.
WHY the hell would someone fire bomb someone's house, just because they saw something strange?! HOW does that make sense?
You should make a video covering the story of the Monkey-Man of Delhi. The story goes that in May 2001, a monkey-like creature was attacking citizens of New Delhi at night. The weird part of the story is how some witnesses claim the creature had metallic components like a helmet, three buttons on its chest, and metal claws.

Cancel culture is not a new thing .
I remember the Greenhaw event. I was in grade school at the time. Our school put out--or rather, circulated--a "school newspaper" or broadsheet on topics of interest every two weeks or so. Well, this event, which I had heard something about, appeared in the broadsheet --except the angle of the broadsheet mocked Greenhaw's encounter by casting doubt on it, showing young kids wrapping themselves up with aluminum foil, and some dude who had built a metal "flying saucer" in his back yard. It was the end of the Nixon era, during the height of the Cold War, and there was a lot of disinformation being put out.
Plus, I think 1973 was the height of "boots on the ground" alien encounters.
For me the strangest thing about this case is that Jeff Greenhaw was a police at 26 that's rather young for a police chief and looking at the photo I must say that the Metal Man looks very similar to the OG Cybermen from Doctor Who
Small town.
I’ve seen a police chief who was 25.
Small town, seen it before in two different ways. They hire a kid fresh out of the academy to be the second officer on the two force, then the Cheif retires and he's got sonority. Other way they go to some city, and look for someone who's made sergeant quickly on their merit, and offer then a 10% raise and you get to get out of the city, with the town "fathers" expecting to be able to keep him under their thumb due to his age.
Not uncommon at all, there’s officers that are 18, most states only require 18 or 19 years of age, how else u gonna get the experience to get in, get a good position and utilize pension? Where I live it’s very unusual they require folks to be 21 and have a minimum associates degree to work in any LE capacity but that’s HIGHLY unusual and makes it very difficult for people to obtain the requisite experience and years of service to use their pension, move up etc. and it’s a huge contributor to staffing shortages bc LE is typically something u go into early and make a career of, middle aged plus officers dont last and not much benefit to them

I just get this gut feeling this was less a guy just falling for the efforts of a local prankster but something more malicious... I mean, the intense ridicule and victimisation of the man seems like some kind of vendetta to ruin someone. You don't firebomb a man's home because he said he saw an alien... to me, this is something way closer to home and more unpleasant than spacemen or any other lofty conspiracy, it feels more like a concerted effort to ruin a man's life and career.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I first read of this incident the year after it happened in the magazine UFO REPORT. The publisher included in the article all four photographs, then in the follow-up on the matter did a brake down and analysis of the figure in sequence, noting the being's initial strands as it looked standing still at first then apparently beginning to turn as if walking away. The publisher's own belief , was something did happened on that darkened stretch of road that couldn't be a typical hoaxe or common prank.
I personally feel this matter should have been looked into more closely ( didn't anybody else go out there looking for evidence, footprints? ) truly if this is the case , then the rest of his fellow officers had no reason to turn this into a joke and even if nothing was found it would have blunted some of the heartlessness that came from this encounter!!

Those photos are famous and I've seen them published in many UFO books, but this is the most complete telling of the back-story I've heard. It’s really surprising that his wife was like “oh you saw an alien and now the community hates us, I’m out”. Wasn’t it more likely that “you made this s*it up and people really didn’t buy it, I can’t live with a lier”? The community and the wife’s reaction was really unique considering other alien encounters.
Maybe some in the community were in on it? They wanted him out for some reason.

WAHMEN ☕🙄😮💨😡
Having grown up in Alabama, the so called “extreme” reactions don’t even seem that extreme to me. The firebomb seems pretty insane from an outside perspective, but honestly it was probably done in the spirit of a prank more than anything. And if that sounds crazy, it’s because it is. There’s no rationalizing this kind of behavior, we’re not a rational people. We will do absolutely insane things without thought for the consequences. idk how else to explain it, there’s a deep mistrust of anything new or possible threats to the Alabama way of life.
Sweet home alabam results i quess 🤣
Amen to this, couldn't have said it better myself.
Sounds like Alabama has a lot of issues
Awesome as always thanks guys
Love This Channel!❤
Looking forward to seeing the video on the Pascagoulo incident. 😊
Wife ruined his life then divorced him. What a class act.
I love these videos. Keeps me on the edge of my chair.
ideo! hey. super video. i've been checking out a few of them ever since im addicted to your content , this channel has even better videos imo
From Alabama here, my grandmother lived in Falkville, and my father was really close friends with Bobby... I never thought this would get the attention it has gotten.
All I will say is I plead the 5th
Reminds me the infamous Spaceman or Astronaut from the well known Vacation picture. It even looks like the Australian outlaw that done himself an metal armor. Yes that is real.
The one behind the little girl? What was it?
You mean the Solway Spaceman photo
@@SamuelBlack84It's been confirmed that the subject of the Spaceman photo... is the little girl's mother. I don't remember the exact details, but she was in just the right position relative to the sun and camera that almost no detail was captured. But, when compared to other photos from that same outing, you can easily tell its her.
Australian outlaw was Ned Kelly think it was in the 1880s
@@ValiareTheForsaken01Its not 100% agreed on as the explanation though
Cracking episode once again. And very much enjoying the series now in podcast form.
A suggestion for future episodes - please do one on Spring Heeled Jack. I think it'd be perfect for Bedtime Stories.
Yes! I'm surprised this hasn't already been covered.
Alabamian here. I've never heard this story before! Thank you for sharing something from my neck of the woods 🤗
I was gonna say Lynyrd Skynyrd but he’s more like the Alabama Hard Rock Man
Very nice!! I grew up in near the Falkville area. Strangely I haven't heard this one but thoroughly enjoyed it! If you really want to take your Alabama content to the next level then you could start Methtime Stories (of all the things the junkies imagine and do while on meth). I've got no shortage of stories having grown up in the single largest meth-producing region in North America 😂
They definitely make a bang when the lab goes up. Had one pop just off base when I was stationed in Texas. We all jumped on the flightline.
I live in se bama and I have some too lol My cousin (I hate claiming him) thinks that an occult cia group stalks him and sprays him with sevindust while he sleeps. And that they installed a poison-filled sprinkler system in the dirt floor of a barn he squats in when he's between arrests 😂 Oh and the shadow people and skinwalkers (that one is new bc my neighbor thought it would be funny to mess with him and tell him she's seen them in the woods)
@@colormetakenabackdamn shadow people. Meth heads talk about them a lot. And it is absolutely Alabama to have a meth head cousin.
Walker county?
Methtime stories 😂😂😂
Nice story, thanks for the update.
hey. awesome video. i've been watching a few of them ever since i first found your videos. lol im addicted to your content and have slowly got my significant other into your channel as well, now we both cant get enough!
thought i would also recommend another cool resource i've been watching too. it taught me a bunch of awesome tips and hopefully your other followers find it useful too :)
The way the comunity was fast to turn on Greenhaw is really strange. If it was idd some youth prank, people would laugh once and let it go. The fact taht they kept harassing him is really strange and probably means most inhabitatnts were trying to gaslight him and/or try to keep some secret remain hidden. Hate people like that, I feel nothing but pure simpathy for Greenhaw.
This policeman ruined his life so much for tell the truth: someone arson his house,he divorced, was fired and ruined,he used to tell that was "under surveillance" and repeating to everybody that "things(in general) are not at all as appears"
...and there is still a question: ¿who call at his home demanding help? the village was pretty small and he knews almost every people there, including their voices by phone due to his work, but he never was able to identify the "woman" who calls that night.
I found it odd that the police chief didn’t ask the woman her name and number or address
@@austintrousdale2397 He DID ask her. He kept on trying to get her name and she wouldn't tell him because she was extremely upset. They said this in the video.
@@austintrousdale2397 good point, later in the report to MUFON he never was sure if he has ask certain basic questions although in his own words "i didnt recognize the voice",such unprofessional behaviour not common in a good professional(until the incident everybody has good opinion about him both as person and professional).
You receive in middle of the night the call of a unidentified woman,in a little village where you knows everybody with no idea of whom is her and where exactly she is calling from, and go away to check if a UFO had landed on a solitary area..the word "ambush" in neon lights over the patrolman head.
Cannot wait for the podcast. I know Minnamurra very well. I used to go there a lot in my youth.
As always, brilliant narration and graphics...
Never heard of this incident before. Feel bad for Greenhaw. Why would he have made this up? Very disappointing that people treated him so badly afterwards.
Seems possible he was maliciously hoaxed to get hustled out of office, but either way it's terrible to hear about someone's whole life get tanked. Loved today's story about stoked for the Padawanpotatogo (sp?) Incident too!
These are quite literally my favorite bedtime stories, listen to them before I sleep. Very entertaining and oddly relaxing
Ahh, The Pasguola incident is coming up in a future episode eh?!
Finally! Been waiting for you guys to cover that one! :)
