Morocco is the first country to recognize the U.S. On December 20, 1777, the Kingdom of Morocco became the first country in the world to recognize United States independence, only a year and a half after the U.S. Declaration of Independence was issued.
In 1821, the Moroccan ruler, Sultan Moulay Suleiman, gave the United States, a building in the old medina of Tangier, and gave the United States its first diplomatic property, the site of the American Legation.

The Allaouite Dynasty has been ruling morocco since 1666, and they recognized USA in 1777... 111 years later... weird.

Just so you know. Surfing start in morocco in kenitra by cpl american solders who showed a moroccan how to surf. Lately in japan. Morocco was the first muslim country i think to qualify for the olympics.lol
