Van Damme's Hard Target Is So Good Other Movies Shouldn't Bother Existing - Best Movie Ever

  • The Jean Claude Van Damme and John Woo masterpiece 'Hard Target' is such an incredible display of awesomeness, that it blows my mind that other movies even exist. What reason could anyone have for watching something where Van Damme doesn't standing straight up and shooting while riding a motorcycle? Or punching a snake for getting uppity? Yeah, I know, Yancy Butler's eyebrows are super weird but you also have Wilford Brimley as a drunken Robin Hood and if you're still reading this instead of watching the movie then consider yourself dead to me.

An actual fact, Hard Target was John Woo's first U.S. film and was also the first major Hollywood film made by a Chinese director. Universal Pictures was nervous about having Woo direct a feature and sent in director Sam Raimi to look over the film's production and to take Woo's place as director if he were to fail. Woo went through several scripts finding mostly martial arts films with which he was not interested. After deciding on Pfarrer's script for Hard Target, Woo wanted to have actor Kurt Russell in the lead role, but found Russell too busy with other projects. Woo then went with Universal's initial choice of having Van Damme star. *_Woo got along with Van Damme during filming and raised the amount of action in the film as he knew that Van Damme was up for it._*

Hard Target is an action classic. Also has great character moments, imo, Voosloo’s character sensing that Chance could be their demise is a great touch.
I also thought the whole homeless and poverty theme was great. All in all one of those films that has more going on under the hood than it seems at first.

One of my favorite over-the-top 90s action movies thanks to the insane direction of John Woo and some great casting. I say this without any irony at all: that stunt of JCVD riding at the truck, hitting it, flipping over it and shooting the hell out of it is one of the coolest ever captured on film. Let's see the CGI jockeys create something half that cool now.
