  • This video is a short deep-dive into Valheim's new Ashland enemy the Charred. In this video we breakdown all of the stats and attacks while discussing the best armour, bows, arrows, and melee weapons to take on each standard variant of the charred enemy class.
We cover the Warrior (Melee), Marksman (Archer), Warlock (Mage), and Twitcher variants. I hope this helps! If we've made any significant mistakes be sure to let us know in the comments below and we'll update the description.
This video was made during PTB 0.218.12 but the description is updated to 0.218.15.
    Stat units:
    - the armour numbers are the weighted average damage per hit
    - the weapon and bow numbers are the weighted average damage per second calculated from the time it takes to kill the enemy (star variants included when applicable) via every attack pattern with the weapon at skill level 50
    - arrow numbers are simply the damage dealt to the enemy with that arrow

    Corrections/Updates:
    - I completely messed up with the attack patterns for the berserkir axes since I used their animation clip length instead of the actual animation time. I also figured out that it is a 4-animation combo not a 3 and lastly, it seems like the last two animations can double proc the effects. This all means the new duel axes are extremely viable. Here is an updated table: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
    - new patch changes damage increase from pierce to blunt for new mace variants
    - new patch adds set bonus to Ask set making it a viable ranger build
    - new patch increases eitr regen on new magic set

Also, 10-30 dmg more or less on different weapons often don't matter when you 2 hit that ennemy with most weapons, making attack speed and range and even knockback in some cases more important. not to mention ease of use when facing multiple ennemies at once.
I always need just 2 hits killing an archer, with the 2 handed sword, the nidhogg, the mace, the axes. Raw numbers often don't mean much.

I totally agree, that's why the numbers in my videos aren't just the damage numbers. The numbers are a weighted average DPS calculated from the average time to kill. A good example of this, is how the silver sword does slightly more damage than the level 3 mistwalker but the numbers come out to about the same because they take the same amount of hits to kill and have the same attack speed. The lvl 4 silver sword and lvl 2 storm star both take 3 hits to kill an Archer at skill lvl 30 but the storm star has a much higher number in my document due the faster attack speed. I hope this clarifies and I agree, raw numbers are not enough.

The Staff of Embers is still really good at AoE, it's not going to be doing a whole bunch of fire damage of course, but the blunt damage is really nice.

Did you do much testing with the silver sword?? I'm curious how the spirit damage plays into your numbers.

I certainly did, the results are linked in the description. The silver sword does about the same amount of damage as the mistwalker since both have spirit damage but the mistwalker trades some of that for base and frost damage. In the end, they come out about equivalent in terms of real DPS but the mistwalker has the distinct advantage of slowing down enemies with frost damage. The mistwalker also pulls ahead of the silver sword more once upgraded to level 4.

@@back-to-basics-gaming thanks for the response. I was really hoping the silver sword was the secret awesome weapon in the ashlands but it seems that it's not. Still impressive for a silver age weapon to contend so well, but not the winner overall.

I also wonder if the damage over time. makes it a good defensive weapon in a sense where you can attack and then back off and allow the damage to tick over time. I'll do some testing once I get to the ashlands myself to see how I feel it stacks up. I'll have the Krom and the Miss Walker with me also!

The fact that charred warriors can deal both slash and pierce damage its kinda nutty, thanks for the review its made alot clear to me now 🫡

Yeah, it's rather strange. It becomes even more confusing with Lord Retro. I suppose I'll have to make a video about him at some point ;)
