      I used to have scoliosis, a case so wrong that it forbid me from having epidural anesthesia during labour.
      But I got better by articulating the vertebrae rolling while sitted in the ground. It took me just a month. I kept my back in place (not going back to scoliosis) by doing squats with weight (just a third of my total body weight). It's been 8 years, and not a single back pain ever since.

    G-d BLESS U, Mr. Iwamoto! Your videos are a G-DSEND! I've had scoliosis since childhood, but when I was a professional dancer, & teacher, it was less pronounced. At 64, having become WAY too sedentary, (& having my neck & back somewhat compromised from a car accident years ago) it has lately gotten worse. I can already tell that your techniques are the answer I was praying for! Thank u, thank u, THANK U! ❤👏👏👏

    IMHO a movement expert is better than a doctor any day of the week. They just want to prescribe pills, better to correctly move and stay moving for lifelong pain management. I’ll add these. Thanks.

    I have 3 Questions:
    Do we need to keep our hips facing foreward or allow them to rotate as we move the chest & shoulders?
    Should we contract our lower ab muscles in order to stabilize the spine as we move?
    Do we move with the breath, exhaling one way and inhaling the other?
    I've had 12 abdominal surgeries that have severely damaged and weakened my entire core. This has exacerbated my back, pelvic & leg pain and dysfunction caused by my previously existing lower spinal curvature.
    I'm sure I'm nit to onky person who has had to to learn how to "tune out" from one's body in order to cope with pain; I need help regaining body awareness to avoid injury, so knowing which direction feet, knees, pelvis, chest, shoulders and head should face is very important to know.
    I enjoy your videos and your quiet, gentle presentation style, Taro. Thank you.💯💫

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  Před rokem +4

      You can allow your hips to rotate as you sidebend your torso.
      i would focus on distributing sidebending evenly throughout the whole spine and ribs so muscle effort will be distributed evenly.
      I personally do find breathing out while sidebending my torso more natural, but you can experiment and find which way of breathing supports your movement better. Hope this helps:)

    Hi Taro
    I was born with scolosis. I have a C shape lumber scolosis. I actually did nothing about it as l did not suffer with any pain or discomfort. However now at the age of 62 l started getting tremendous pain. The doctors advised physiotherapy but nothing helped. They now advice me to undergo fusion surgery 😢 which l want to avoid by all means.
    Will flendenkrais help to reduce my pain overtime
    so i can avoid surgery.

    @feldenkras with Taro Iwamoto my lower back wants to arch when I shift my weight to one leg. Should this be happening? I did not hear you address this, perhaps you did but I missed it. In fact, I notice my lower back protrudes back (arches) on most of the scoliosis exercises. I don’t know if I should endeavor to stop this.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  Před rokem +1

      a great question! First, you're observing and noticing your movement pattern and difference between two sides. When you shift your weight to one leg, you tend to move into anterior pelvic tilt and sidebending pattern. One thing I did not mention in the video is that you can slightly change pathway (slightly more forward, or backward as you shift weight), and you'll notice slight change will change movement of pelvis and spine slightly. It's good to explore several different pathways to teach your nervous system and body new movement patterns so you won't get stuck in the same habitual pattern all the time.

    Hi Taro,
    I like your teachings in Feldenkrais. It helps me.
    I have a question: as we get older, arthritis causes the bone to degenerate, the vertebra squeeze , press and demolish the cushions, pinch the nerves etc...
    How can Feldenkrais fix those problems? Can it stop arthritis, rebuild cartilage, restore bone etc...so that we do not have pain anymore? I have numbness in leg and toes. Xray shows arthritis. Can I be healed? Of course diet plays important role also.
    How can Feldenkrais heal when the cartilage and the vertebra demolish?
    Thank you.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks! Feldenkrais is not about fixing or correcting. With its movement principles, you can improve quality of movement and improve functions. Improving movement quality will not reverse joint, tissue degeneration that has taken place already, however, it can definitely slow down the process. Here's analogy. If you walk habitually with more weight on outer feet, outer soles of your feet wear out faster than inner soles. Same thing happens to all joints and tissues. Unless you reorganize your movement patterns, you keep stressing the same parts of your body. Whether people have a joint replacement surgery or not, movement retraining is very helpful and essential. Even after a surgery, your movement patterns usually remain the same, so you will continue to stress the surgical part the same way.

    Just tried it out, the difference between my left leg and right leg is pretty bad. With my right leg it goes really smooth but with my left leg the motion is small and not nearly as smooth.
    How many scoliosis videos are you going to make?

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  Před 2 lety +2

      I would not phrase that difference between two legs was bad. We should always assume two sides are different without judging good side and bad side. We can improve quality of movement regardless. I only have 3 scoliosis videos so far, and no plan for making another one as of now. But to be honest, most of my movement videos focus on coordinating the whole body and they all address scoliosis.
