      He was a conman but he also was very inspirational I learned a lot from that guy. His general point that you find something that works then repeat it everywhere was 20 years ahead of it's time.... That's how all marketing works now, lol He basically said you put a tiny classified ad in the paper and when you get one that works, put it in every paper in the country. That applies to a lot of things actually, it's an interesting concept.

    If I had one of these I'd add a hidden switch that when I pressed it the machine would react like I added a coin. This would keep as much of the machine original as possible. No sabotage required.

      On arcade machines I often connect the coin reject button mechanism to the coin switch with a wire (which is mechanically only). It's a reversible nonintrusive mod and I don't even have to drill a hole in the case.

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos Před 2 lety +2

      It's pretty easy to just open the coin door to do that as well. It's all about personal preference. Adding a switch means taking away from original as you add a switch. Bending a switch keeps it 100% original. If you want it back to normal, you just adjust the switch. Depends what you want :)

    • @senilyDeluxe
      @senilyDeluxe Před 2 lety

      @@EsotericArctos it's in a room that's open to the public. Open coin doors are a no-go in that area and inserting a wire in the mechanism to link the reject button to the switch also keeps it original.

    Still amazing to see what they did with just relays. I remember working on my EM (actually a Freedom) and I ended up photo copying the schematic on a bunch of 11x17" pages so I could make notes and not mess up the original...went all the way across the table and then some.
    Don't forget to drop all the drop targets to see if the 'Special Lights' turns on...

    Would a pipe cleaner do a similar job to the bore brush?
    Not sure if they would be aggressive enough.
    One tiny switch - Like a computer, if the "reset" line doesn't work, the whole game doesn't work. The game over relay is kind of like that reset line. :)

    This machine has nothing actually broken, but one or two dirty switches can bring it to a non-functional state. It really shows that EM requires a lot of care and maintenance to remain in good working order.

    • @davidg-m1768
      @davidg-m1768 Před 2 lety +1

      Really they don’t require a lot of maintenance. Once you have it set right all you need to do is play them regularly….the switches rub and keep themselves clean. It’s only if you let them sit for months without playing them that the connections oxidise/dirty. They are very reliable.

      @@davidg-m1768 Thank you for your clarifying comments, and I am very sorry if I led anyone to believe that EM games are in general very difficult to operate and maintain. In fact, many EM games are working fine after 40 years, with just occasional cleaning, as demonstrated may times on this channel. I was not intending to disparage EM games, or the great work that has been shown in these videos to restore the games to excellent condition, ready for a new generation of players to enjoy.

    JOES CLASSIC, I'm very confused about when you first power up the pinball machine it turns on the lock relay, then it turns on the game over relay, then turns on the delay relay. I thought the Delay relay would only turn on ONLY if you Tilted the game, which I'm not sure why would turning on the pinball game that it goes through a start up sequence of Lock relay, Game Over Relay, Delay Relay. It just seems weird to have the delay relay involved. What is very confusing is the EM schematics are showing all the relay contact switches normally open and normally closed ONLY at the score motors HOME position, which needs to be emphasized. The Schematic is only telling you when the score motor is at HOME position this is the reference of all the relay contacts normally open and normally closed.

    • @techrev9999
      @techrev9999 Před 2 lety

      I think the game over relay comes on first, that's probably what triggers the delay relay, which then triggers the lock relay. Or, the lock relay starts out off, that triggers the game over relay, then the lock relay just triggers after. I was unclear on that. In that case, the delay relay does some other stuff after the game over relay triggers. Which is, probably, to turn on a lot of stuff.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 Před 2 lety

      @@techrev9999 It seems that the DELAY Relay is resetting the tilt switches but I had no idea it was in the CLOSED loop with the lock relay and game over relay, just seems weird to me it is.

    • @techrev9999
      @techrev9999 Před 2 lety

      @@waynegram8907 Yeah, the delay relay is in a closed loop with the game over relay. I got that much, I couldn't remember what it did. When the power goes on, the lock relay is closing the switch to the game over relay, so the game over relay gets power, and kicks in. Then, because power is going to the lock relay, the lock relay kicks in. There's a slight delay in there, just with how the relay and switch works.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 Před 2 lety

      @@techrev9999 The lock relay is stays on throughout the whole game, the game over relay and the delay relay are in a Sub Closed Loop because the game relay won't turn off until the delay relay is turned off/open contact switch. There should be no start up time delay interval with the lock relay because that supplies the power to everything. The game over relay and the delay relay can turn OFF the lock relay. The Lock Relay, Game Over Relay, Delay Relay are in a CLOSE LOOP system.

    • @techrev9999
      @techrev9999 Před 2 lety

      @@waynegram8907 No, when you turn the game off, the lock relay shuts off. During power up, for a short time, the lock relay is off and power gets through to the game over relay. Then the lock relay turns on. Watch the video, he explains it many times, and shows it happening.
