Shallow River Channel Catfish

This trip put me on a few big channel catfish, the fish I cut my teeth on and still one of my favorites to catch. They hit hard, fight hard, and are just downright tough. Plus, in this small river the channel catfish is the species of greatest abundance meaning, if you don't want to go hours or even sometimes days without a bite, you better hope you find a few channel catfish willing to play.
This is a shallow water fishing scenario, with the deepest holes in this stretch approaching about ten feet. Channel catfish are fun largely due to the variety of structure they can be found on. It doesn't take deep water to hold a big channel catfish. Drop your bait on a log in two feet of water and hold on because you never can tell when you might find a biggun willing to bite!
