As a 61 yr old woman (62 today!) striking out on my own after 4 kids and 30 yrs (still married to that city guy 😊) in Florida, I have watched 100's of videos of every kind of build over the last several years. I was appalled at the soaring cost of these builds, as I view creativity and resourcefulness as an integral part of van life. I certainly think folks who do professional builds deserve to be paid for their craft, but I'm most inspired by personal builds like yours, and some other super creative solutions. I got a Westphalia out in NorCal, as a longer-term project. We'll see how it goes :) But I'm becoming more inclined to do a minivan or small track/empty shell camper build rather than utilize a full-size van until I finish with the Westphalia (which could take a bit.) I need a driving vehicle. I have my tent. I don't need a full-size van. My vision for this phase of my life has been informed so much by videos like yours. I love to see people create solutions rather than buy them. Enjoy your travels! I love Otis! What a magnificent, lovely dog. Kudos to the fine work done by your brother, and Sarah's cozy interior work. My family thinks I'm a bit mishegas, but they back me in a kindly way, and at least I'm crazy in the Redwoods. Hi guys, I'm very excited that I found you scrolling through hundreds of Astro camper builds. Tomorrow i have an appointment to buy the only one Chevy Astro currently on sale in my country and was scratching my head how to fit a folding bed and leave the rear bench seats intact. You are a blessing!!! This is the most simple and brilliant way to do it. Thank you. Have a nice adventure!
@@PackAndSoul Small country in European Union - Bulgaria. 4x4 European vans with this size like VW California, Multivan or Mercedes Marco Polo are crazy expensive here and I found the Astro to fit my needs.

@@PackAndSoul Hi guys, yes i bought the van! He is ex movie prop, probably have been in US movies shot in Bulgaria. It is in terrible condition and i begin my journey restoring it to its previous glory. Hopefully it will be ready for spring adventures. Where's the water 💦 supply for the wash basin ? No fridge? No power station? No (4me, the most important thing).....Toilet? You shoukd definitely have a window fan and those things, whatever they're called that allow you to keep the window open a few inches without letting the rain in. Also, as nice as the bed setup is, that mattress is way too thick. I would just have used a 3" mattress topper which is comfortable and still allows you to sit up in 🛏 bed. I look 4wrd 2 seeing it when it's actually finished. Happy Travels. PS--- always loved the ASTRO, such a nifty and nice sized van with a cute classic, boxy look.😊
Thanks for the comment. All those things you mentioned are superfluous for us. We’re not spending months living in our van so we don’t need them. We’ve already spent weeks traveling around and it’s the perfect setup for us. We go into town every couple days, so not a big deal to refill supplies. And the bed’s the most comfortable part! If we were going to permanently move into the van, it’d be a different story, but for our purposes, this minimal build is ideal. When we were searching for videos for inspiration, all we found was crazy builds that cost thousands of dollars. Not for us. So we wanted to make a vid for people who only wanted a minimal build and to spend just a couple hundred dollars. Thanks for watching, happy travels!
