Sorry folks...unfortunatly i found no video of this song. "the Crown" is one of these Songs, I searched for Years - hope you enjoy it like i do. Wish you all the best for 2008 !
1983, I was 18.... used to rock this one on the radio back home, Brazil. I could only understand the chorus 😂. Man, those were great times. Love to everyone who appreciates good music ❤
Eu com 15 em uma periferia da capital federal, saía pra frente de casa com meu rádio-toca fitas aiko sempre que o locutor anunciava essa música pra ouvir no volume máximo.
never soul ,funk and rnb was big in Brazil this era of music is especially important to me because this was the era of your wonderful 1982 World Cup of Eder Zico ,Socrates,Falcao ,Juniour and as an 11year boy they gave me such thrills by their enchanting awe inspiring performance in that World Cup and this music these master gems like like the crown were being created alongside groups like new jersey connection, Dayton, De train ,slave ,kinky fox ,Oliver cheatham, salsoul ocrarastra so many more amazing acts they produced the icreadible sound tracks when that World Cup team thrilled me as a little boy in england peace
Work of genius. Rap/Hip Hop has lost its soul now. Sad, very sad. But this track is a celebration of all things good. Keep playing it. Never loose your soul.
This songs sends chills all over my body. I was in my teens when this song was released. How fast time flies. But thank God I had the opportunity to enjoy good music.
@@seilanemsei Yes he still is GOLD.God has deprived him of the sight but gave him a wonderful voice and talent!! WOW...And he gave him a golden heart too!!
Magnifique, sublime !!! Que du bonheur !!! Du pur bonheur ce son de 83
This is my teacher i first person to bring me into a radio station in 1969, always a great mentor to many here in nyc where he is a radio legend love this man for his helping so many in the music industry, and radio, a truth teller just listen you will learn, peace.
Gary Byrd + GB Experience...I loved this in 83'...reminds me of working on the chain gang in Bulmers, Hereford...thank the lord it was holiday work then off to college! Happy ol' days!
I have album in my basement I remember when I bought it in Detroit in 1983 at Chauncey's Records on Six mile. I was 14 yrs old. I still play it to this day a very inspirational and over looked song. This younger generation should hear this then maybe so many lives could be saved without all of the senseless killings. They should post the original long version. That has the message
Awesome tune ! The days when you could go clubbing without DRAMA ! Great songs like this make me remember what I saw as the good times. When Stevie sings......... goosebumps.
Motown goes rap? they did in 1983 & it blew up big time too, what a fabulous record Co written by Stevie Wonder & Gary Byrd who sing & rap on this mega hit of a track, also has Teena Marie & Syreeta Wright on backing vocals, retelling the story of the coming of modern civilisation, paying homage to the Alkebus, the Romans, the ancient Greeks, Neffertiti,Tutankhamun, the Sphinx, Cleopatra, Alex Haley, Roots, Muhammad Ali, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Louis, Malcolm x, a history class but in a rap format
This was actually him being ahead of the pro black movement in hip hop. The closest song to this was 5 or 6 years later by KRS1 doing "You must Learn (live from the Caucus Mountains remix)." Never about Motown. He was always positive and this was his "crown" song on his radio station in LA, KJLH... Kindness, Joy, Love and Happiness.
Composed by Stevie Wonder, this one of the best pieces of music ever made, very ear candy indeed. I'm surprised Stevie doesn't perform this with Gary Byrd , Stevie was certainly in his hotep phase in the early 80s. Gary now has an Egyptian name I think
@AUTORECOVERYUK I wholeheartedly agree with you. The 80's were the best for music!!! When rap didn't always have to glorify murder or slackness. Love this song, haven't heard it for years!!!
It was in the year before my graduation from gigh school that the song was being played at clubs. Just recently it came to my mind again. It makes me happy to listen to it. Thanks for your research
Still got this on 12" vinyl.....along with loads of other tunes from this era...great times...never to be re-lived again i'm afraid...not with all the so called music we have to put with these days !!!!
Happy 70th Stevie. This was your song that actually a few years ahead of one the greatest hip hop cats in KRS 1. You and Gary taught history and in 2020, big love.
Temaso me canse de buscarlo..hace 37años que no lo escucho hoy se me ocurrio tararearlo en gogle y aparecieron varias opciones asta que para mi sorpresa di con el ...

this song was huge summer of 1983, when i was 12 and my family spent summer in ireland and the UK. best music ever. the radio was so good over there i hated coming back to the states.
Now this is a quality rap song and listen he aint shot any one stabbed any one done a drive by killing sold drugs or slapped his bitch up like all the modern rappers have to do. This is when rap music had a happy feel good angle to it in the best years for music the 80's. Great years great fun great music and i miss them so bad. Thanks for posting this. RIP Michael Jackson.

Just as FRESH as when it was released in '83. Glad I still have the 12 inch. Aside from Gary and Stevie, don't forget about Lady T leading the chorus. Priceless.

Thanks as a retired teacher I wish I had this for my classes many years ago. Imhotep should be given title of Educator/Entertainer of the year for his GBE radio talk showed his efforts to enlighten the world. We must reach the youth where they are! Hook their ears and we can hook their brains and replace the miseducation they have received!

The back up singers on this record are Stevie's Wonder Love Girls and Shatima Byrd. Teena Marie was NOT backup on this song. This is from the source.
