    I overcame my fear of turbulence real quick when i sat at the back of the plane and forgot that the flight attendants mostly sit there or have their break there. And if the plane gets bumpy and they are 100% calm n chilling at the back then I know i’m good too lol

    On my way home from US to my native place for marriage, my then would be wife saw me very tense during turbulence while she was very calm....in fact sleeping. I woke her up asking how could she be so calm? She looked at me and coolly asked" Do you know how to fly this plane? Can you do anything about this? The pilots know what to do. So just calm down" and she went back to sleep.
    It reaffirmed my faith that she was the perfect person for me. 24 years later...still remember that flight from Chicago to Amsterdam 😂

    What really matters is that you stay strapped all the time. If you're not strapped and the aircraft plunges, _you actually stay just were you were and the whole aircraft ceiling will hit you in the head! Being thrown up is an illusion; you stay weightless and the whole, heavier aircraft will hit you in the head. That may well broke your neck. Always stay strapped and you and the plane will descend together, as one, and no one will be hurt._ Remember that.

But if plane starts acceleration in forward direction you will experience g force and fall backward. Similarly when plane is falling it accelerated downward and you experience force in upward direction to hit ceiling. If it descends slowly then acceleration is minimal and you won’t hit the ceiling. Normally I don't mind turbulences, but this summer while landing in Warsaw there were heavy winds, and at around 2,000 feet we hit the biggest one while turning (also it was 10pm in a cloud) and all I could see was the cloud and the lights flashing. And the only thing I could hear was the engines roaring at the highest power, stuff moving and the silence. And I could feel the plane going up at first and then going down. But it's funny how passengers thought that these were their last moments and the cabin crew were just : 😊😊😊.

  • @whatmakesyouwonder6363
    @whatmakesyouwonder6363 Před rokem +60

    Pretty normal. I love it. I'm a student pilot by the way. It's much worse when you are flying Cessna 152 embracing the clouds. lol. Don't worry guys, autopilot is engaged, it will automatically correct its trajectory both altitude and speed.

    • @duartesimoes508
      @duartesimoes508 Před 10 měsíci +4

      Not really. If turbulence gets really excessive the AP will disengage, unable to steer the aircraft in such tormented air. Then it's up to the pilot to show that he still is a pilot.
      I once was a C152 pilot too, my friend,when I was young and bold. In these the felt turbulence is _horrible._ I banged my head countless times, even strapped, lost control of the aircraft, almost came up at 60 degrees banking with opposite yoke, you name it. All the while all the airframe squeaks as if it was going to be teared apart. Turbulence in light aircraft is extremely intimidating and can be incapacitating if very prolonged or if it induces panic. And I'm not even talking about icing formation. It's definitely no joke. Stay safe. 💪😀

      Dropping 500 ft risks you hitting the aircraft flying below you. That cannot be accepted. Ditto for the aircraft flying above yours. Nowadays, precision is so great that a vertical separation of only 500 ft can be used, _as long as under Radar Control._ Over the Ocean, without Radar coverage and slower communications, separations must increase three times and as Controller you are precluded to shove as many aircraft in the same Airway and Flight Level, for safety's sake, or in no time they would be getting dangerously close. You must check their speeds constantly. It works well and as a last ditch you also have the TCAS, which will make sure that your aircraft will never hit another providing the systems in either aircraft are turned on and at least _one_ of the pilots reacts properly even if the other stays passive. (there is no need for both to react properly but the other pilot must do _nothing_ This is because many light aircraft have Transponders, that trip the TCAS, but have no aural _Resolution Advisory_ and therefore remain unaware of what is happening)
      I was ATCo all my life. Had enough! 🤯

Despite most of the passengers crying and while I was crumbling inside, the FAs were very calm and assured us that everything will be okay. In the end, the aircraft landed safely. • @forty.editss
    @forty.editss Před 2 měsíci +1

    Here's a good tip for you nervous flyers afraid of turbulent moments in-flight. Assure that you've been seated near the back of the fuselage, as you can hear flight attendants remain chill and laugh during turbulence. If turbulence occurs, and you're worried, have a look on the seatbelt sign displayer above your seat. If the seatbelt sign is off, it means that the turbulent feeling you get, is just a slight wind overspeed happening that passes by in just a matter of a few seconds. Regularly check the seatbelt sign, whenever you hear a ding played throughout the cabin's speakers. Whenever you notice the seatbelt sign trigger, fasten your seatbelt for your personal safety. Turbulence has only once cause a non-fatal plane crash within a timeline of 100 years.

We hit the biggest storm cell that I had ever seen- we couldn't go over, under or even around- we had to fly through it- on a small jet- don't remember the make/ model. I remember when the pilot came on, and his voice was shaking. Then I was unnerved. The stewardesses were frightened. I sat next to the "Marlboro Man", returning from Russia and ad campaign. He was afraid. We held hands. That jet was tossed and dropped several hundred feet in a wind shear- the plane was on its side mid air. I had 10 students and a chaperone mother with me. We all thought that we would die. We didn't. But, when we finally landed, people tumbled out of the plane to kiss the ground. Small quick drop. I was in a SW plane where the pilots recognized the cabin was losing pressure and they basically dropped the plane really fast. Peoples' loose items just flew into the air and people screamed. But that was a lot more than 100 feet.

    The real problem is that pilots are no longer as skilled as they used to be. Air Force and Navy pilots used to become airline pilots after their service, and customers had quality pilots behind the controls. Now, nearly any civilian can become a pilot.

      @@andrewcustodio1306 Hello there Andrewcustodio1306! Yea, back in the 90s, I remember having flown so many times in airlines that were piloted by former air force pilots. It was very easy to detect because at some point of the flight, the aircraft would literally dive during the descent. So you are correct on that point.
