    It seemed like after Perl Jam got famous, everyone tired to sound like them. That wasn't my kind of rock. I grew up in the 80's. But this skit is so freaking funny and so true.

      I agree, Silverchair in the beginning with the instruments was the same vibe (mainly in the song Tomorrow) and Creed with the lead singer the same as well.

    I haven’t seen this skit in ages! When I first saw this and Ray Charles randomly came out playing the piano, I fell out! I was laughing so loud, I couldn’t hear what they were saying anymore after that. It was all virtually intelligible anyway, so I guess it didn’t matter. 😂

    Everyone likes to point out that Alex Band is played by Taran Killam (back when he was on MADtv; yes, SNL did hire a MADtv cast member. They did it before with Jeff Richards, but how many people have heard of Jeff Richards?), but did you know the girl getting the tattoos is Nicole Parker?

      @@Mitwadus They only hired two cast members from MADtv: Jeff Richards and Taran Killam. They did have Keegan Michael Key host and Arden Myrin, Stephnie Weir, and Jordan Peele auditioned for SNL and got rejected.

    Had they wanted to, they could've added many other singers to that skit, like Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), Layne Staley (Alice In Chains), Aaron Lewis (Staind) and Dallas Smith (Default).

    To be fair, the true originator of that style of singing is Metallica’s James Hetfield. He was the first frontman to have that type of voice and style of singing… It was later also used by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.
